Who is this dog for?

My husband and I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have a medium sized dog now (Moose), with probably a medium amount energy if I had to put that on a scale. We have recently decided to get another dog, and wanted someone just as playful. We know they may need a slow introduction to each other, but we have done a lot of work to really socialize our current pup. We brush our boy once a week, clean ears daily because he has some ear issues, and bathe and clip nails at home, so we are ready for a heavy shedder! Our current boy is a rottie, so we keep an eye on his hips, and I know corgis need the same. We also would like another herder. Our pup has always herded things so we got him a large exercise ball that he herds, so I can only imagine having another herder! We know they are playful and social with people and that’s a big plus. I have helped train dogs most of my life, and my husband and I trained Moose together. We are always looking for more ways to get our guy’s brain working so we already have lots of puzzles a smarty pants corgi may do well with.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would take them to walk a bike path, hike, bike, run, swim, fetch, herd if they want, do puzzles, and of course cuddle.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe the best way to train is with positive reinforcement. We will try to do the task again, and do it right more than we do it wrong. It’s teamwork, if they aren’t getting it after a bit, we will find a better way.

Discipline:
Moose is our only dog right now. If he’s being stubborn or doing something he’s not supposed to I like to make him sit as a reset and then do a task. It makes him calm down and then he gets to do something good.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We would start in our extra large crate, then move to being out in the living room. After some test runs they can have the run of the house. Obviously we will have to see how they get along with our pup, as they may have to start of in different areas while they get used to having the other around.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Most days either my husband or I are home. On days we both are at work we have a sitter that comes over a couple times during the day and takes them out to walk or play outside.

Where would dog eat?
In our kitchen. We would get the dogs acclimated to eating in the same area but can always start apart until they find it normal.

Where would dog sleep:
Mostly crated in the living room. Probably with me and our other dog when my husband is working overnight.

Play & exercise:
We go for long walks twice a day. Sometimes I start with a game of fetch before we walk. In the summer we go to the beach a lot and bring our pup, as he loves swimming. We go to a large, fenced in area some days to play with the herding/exercise ball as well.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes. We know it also will probably take time to get used to having each other around. We know coming to a new home is already a lot of stress, and having another dog in their life also can be stressful. We also know for our current dog, he will have to learn to have someone else as a part of our home/family.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.

Who is this dog for?

It would be for myself. I finally got into an occupation that would allow me to have the most time possible with my puppy. Before I used to work pharmacy and had to go in. Now I work from home and have such a lax environment to work in.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the breed. I love the way they look and the way they can be both calm but also energetic when need be. One of my close friends had one while in his relationship and just loved the way the puppy acted with other dogs and people.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Honestly being work from home. I have so much more want to go on walks and just go places. I love playing soccer and would happily always play ball.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depending on the mistake. If we are house training we will have to go over the proper methods on if we are doing potty pads or having to go outside. If it’s something that needs to be trained like not biting the couch leg. I would look into safe sprays to deter the puppy from doing so.

Discipline:
I don’t ever think of ways of disciplining my puppy but I would honestly have to reach out to trainers to better help me because I know bad discipline can result in bad attitude cause by it. It isn’t the puppy’s fault they act a way if treated that way.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my home. I have a big living room couch and a nice medium sized one in my office. Depending on how they feel I know they would love to hang out.

Play & exercise:
I get two breaks and a long lunch during the working day. I will have time to make sure they are okay and don’t need anything during that. And then we will go on a good long walk after work. And play ball in my fenced backyard.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Make adjustments so that it's less likely to happen. Like if they have an accident in the house to make sure to take them more frequently or if they throw up make sure to give them snacks on a schedule.

Discipline:
Mostly sternly telling them to be quite when packages get delivered. I have to kind of herd them into an area where they can't get to the windows to bark.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home and trips outside for the bathroom and yard maintenance. They'll almost always be with me or my husband. When we are out we have cameras to check on them.
