 This dog would be for Sarah and I to have a friend and companion to live with, in a beautiful Corgi that is in need of a loving home

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have always been interested in dogs and dog breeds that are intelligent, sociable, and affectionate. I have gravitated towards the Pembroke Welsh Corgi because of a love for their incredibly expressive faces and personalities. I have noticed this across the board, from interactions with strangers and friends who own corgis and Corgi-focused online posts and pages. I have done some research and I know that they are herders which entails a dog that is high activity and vocal, due to the breeding, but also attributes their mental acuity.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I would love to spend a lot of time with a Pembroke walking around Chicago and exploring new neighborhoods and parks that are safe and friendly to dogs. I would appreciate a dog that is comfortable being around the house and relaxing, in addition to playing and learning skills. What's most important to me is that my Pembroke and I bond as emotional companions and adapt our lifestyles to each others needs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Especially with a new pet and a new home I expect there will be some mistakes. I hope that I would handle mistakes with firmness and proportionality, while always showing love. Additionally I am a believer in positive reinforcement for good behavior, especially when righting past mistakes! Also there will be room for adapting our home to be as dog-fitted as possible to ameliorate unnecessary "mistakes".

Discipline:
 This is an area that I am definitely open to learning more. I don't have experience caring for dogs, so I would look to suggestions from friends that are dog-owners as well as direct feedback from the Lakeshore Corgi Rescue and veterinarians and trainers that we might works with.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 Most of the time would be spent indoors in the home. Our current apartment is nice and hospitable, though we can foresee moving in the next ~3-5 years somewhere larger. I would expect to have all the interior doors open throughout the day, depending on the sound needs of the activities of my job. Though the office front/room is the only door I would consider closing throughout the day.

 I would be prepared for regular walks outdoors with in open streets while leashed. I would also allow for plenty of off-leash outdoor time in the backyard, or at a nearby dog park. After work hours I would have interest in play time as well in the house.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Defer to obedience training methods. Any discipline or corrective action would be immediate, but without any physical or loud verbal component. Rewarding good behavior (treat when good, no treats if mistake). Patience and understanding. Dogs understand when they have made mistakes or disappointed their owner, so it's important not to send wrong or confusing messages.

 We would love to adopt another Pembroke Welsh Corgi mostly due to our love for the breed. Pembrokes are loving, affectionate, and amazing dogs. We currently have a Pembroke, and would love to add another addition to our family. Our experiences with the breed are nothing but great. Our current Pembroke is very loving, playful, and always puts a smile on our faces.

 Family pet (mostly for mom) busy house with two kids (12 and 6 yo boys) and two gentle cats

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 They're so beautiful. I'm really more of a dog person, but inherited two cats when my mother passed away. I just bought a new home this year with my own yard and sidewalks and was very excited to own a dog after living in an apartment where they weren't allowed. The best dog I ever had was a toy poodle named Abby. She was so loyal for the 16 years I was blessed to be with her. After her I had an amazing shar-pei/pitbull named Delilah. She had some aggressive tendencies at first with my (then three year old) son, but with a lot of training they became close companions. Tragically, she got out of the yard when the electric fence was broken and got hit by a car. That was a really hard loss. After Delilah passed I didn't get any more pets and we moved into a no dog apartment complex while I finished going to school. With the two cats, I didn't want a large dog and because of the high pitched bark, I didn't want a small dog. I spent a lot of time looking into medium sized dogs and landed on a corgi. From what I read they're friendly, intelligent and outgoing (and adorable) which would suit my family perfectly. I also watched a lot of videos of sixteenth corgis barking and prefer it to a toy poodle by 100%. Through reading adoption profiles I've learned that their personality varies greatly from one individual to another, so think it's amazing that services like yours exist. I sincerely hope to find the perfect corgi to add to our family.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Dogs make mistakes. It's understandable. It depends on what the mistake was. If a blanket got chewed up, I would show them and offer a stern "no," if it happened more than twice, I would consult a trainer. If it's bathroom in the house after the first few weeks, I would continue to work on potty training and consult a trainer for more things to try if it was extensive or longer than two weeks. If it was any kind of bite, I could consult a trainer and other resources right away.

My cats are on prescription Hill's Science diet due to urinary crystals, so if I don't know what diet the corgi was on prior to coming home with me, I might choose a science diet variety. If I get to know they're current diet and it's healthy, recommended by my vet, and available in my area, I'll stick with that. Most likely scenario is that I'll ask the vet what the best diet for the breed's specific health concerns is and go with that.

 I want a large plush bed next to the couch, and and bed in my room, but they'll always be welcome to sleep in my bed as well
