Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have only researched the breed, & have known one wonderful corgi through a friend. The breed seems gentle, easily trained, smart, fun loving. I would like to have a corgi trained to be able to go with me as a calming/emotional support service dog to visit with my sweet clients, & possibly enter hospital's to visit people who may want some soft cuddles…

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Long walks in the woods. Parks with my grandchildren. Having the dog play with balls, toys, & enjoying each other. Lots of snuggle's . My grandchildren and I love obstacle courses, playing outside, water play, fall leaves, snow, all fun things a pup would enjoy. I would love to enroll a dog; (corgi) in the emotional support classes for dogs. I believe a corgi pup/dog would be a great fit. I really love animals ❤️. I have had dogs all my life, & really enjoy them. I have dog parks nearby, & plenty of places to walk.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I am not sure what mistake you mean, but if it's potty training, just take the dog out more often. If it's something chewed, it was my mistake for leaving it in reach. I don't discipline a dog, I will just be careful not to leave anything that he or she could get hurt by, or anything that isn't a toy for the dog. Mistakes happen to all of us. I will do my very best to keep a dog safe, healthy, & happy. I would take the object away that the dog shouldn't have and give him or her a toy or safe chew item.

Discipline:
I don't reward bad behavior, and also don't give attention to it. I do reward good behavior; such as in training, a tiny piece of chicken, or favorite treat. Pat, or hug, say good job, & name of animal.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Corgi dog would spend most time with me. I will have a seat belt for the dog in car as well.

House dog

People at home during the day?

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom. I have a nice crate, bedding. If once the pup/dog is fine at night, then he or she will sleep on a nice soft dog bed in my bedroom, without his, or her crate. (But door to crate will always be left open in case the dog wants to go in.

Play & exercise:
Walking everyday, with myself, & or my daughter, & my grandchildren with us. (I live 10 min's from my youngest daughter and her family.) We will go to dog parks, training classes, lots of interactive play. Ball, frisbee. Lots of hugs. I can come up with hide n seek games; my other dogs always liked them. My kitty loves to look for his treats. My kitty loves other dogs.

Who is this dog for?

Our daughter who is 20 and is on the spectrum. Our corgi Einie passed in April from liver failure. She was everything to Emmy. Emotional support animal. Einie made her laugh and cry. Nap buddy. Einie was Emmys reason for stepping outside. Talking to people. She has gone lost to us since Einie passed. Emmy can’t sleep and doesn’t eat well. She won’t visit friends or relatives. Einie had become her coping mechanism. And now she doesn’t know how to go day to day. I misjudged the amount of grief she is in. She desperately needs a new ‘thunder buddy’ and puppers for the right side of the bed.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
As I mentioned before. Our corgi was everything to our daughter. She’d always perform for all of us. Gentle. Kind. Loved to just be a part of Emmys day. Right next to her

Who is this dog for?

Both of us

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've grown up with corgi rescue mixes and their personality has always matched mine, making them an amazing companion for me. I love that they can be energetic and can relax as well. I have done a healthy amount of research into the breed for the past year, as I've been waiting until I was financially fit and had adequate living space to house a dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go for walks/runs, visit dog parks and the trails around the city, play fetch or tug of war with them, lounge on the couch, usual dog companion activities.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
My correcting the behavior through positive reinforcement. Praising them after placing them in a correct position. Such as, if they were to start urinating in the house, bring them outside immediately, let them finish, and then praise them for going outside.

Discipline:
Through praise and food (treats).

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside the house with us, whenever we aren't going for walks or visiting dog parks.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, I am a full time student on the GI Bill and will only be out of the house three to four hours at most during the weekdays. My partner works from home and will be here all hours of the day.

Where would dog eat?
In a designated food area, more than likely a place in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever inside the house the corgi sees fit. We have no issue with them joining us on the bed, would rather encourage it, but we also have a soft-sided crate available if they'd like that. Otherwise, if they want to sleep on the carpet or on the couch that's good too.

Play & exercise:
Since my partner and I are home a fair amount, we would like to take walks three times per day with the dog. Since I don't have many obligations other than school, I can hang out with them outside or inside playing with them in addition to the walks/jogs.

How will you exercise your dog?

Who is this dog for?

myself and spouse

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have had this breed for almost 15 years, previously owning another corgi, as well as Goldens and Labs. I went to this breed becausee I heard they were like a big dog in a "little dog suit". I found them to be intelligent, loving and so loyal. I did research the breed (Penbroke) prior to owning my first corgi and then when she was four, bought my present male. He was lost without her when she died, but after a few months, bonded to me. He is a wonderful dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We walk seven days a week from four to seven miles total. I take him off lease most of the time to nearby parks or we walk in the neighborhood on lead. He is able to stay outside most of the day when I am home as we have an invisible fence. The stimulation of being in the outdoors so much of the time is wonderful for him!

Firmly but gently address the problem immediately

Discipline:
Positive reenforcement/association

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I work from home full time so whenever I’m not working I try to go outside as much as I can, be it at a close by park or out on a trail or at a outdoor bar. At the same time I also love binging a new show on Netflix and cooking and entertaining people over.

Who is this dog for?

My husband and I

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I had a Corgi as a kid, and I see quite a few of them at work. I love herding breeds, their aptitude for training and the small size. My husband has been around Corgis that his friend has, and he's been looking for one.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Our schedule is currently daily walks or hikes, flirt pole sessions and some obedience work as needed. We like walking and being outside with the boys.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the mistake. My dogs are treated fairly but held to expectations in behavior.

Discipline:
Again, depends on the situation and dog. The Grey usually doesn't care what I say, so a pop of the leash is sometimes required, or a firm tap on the side. The ACD is a very sensitive dog, so usually a quiet "no" is plenty.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house, or in our yard with us or on walks.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, except four hours in the afternoon

Where would dog eat?
Each dog has a designated feeding area they go to for meals.

Where would dog sleep:
Until they can be trusted out, any new dog would sleep in a crate at night in our room or next to it.

Play & exercise:
Depends on exercise and mental stimulation needs. The greyhound goes for one walk a dog, the cattle dog gets three walks or sessions until he's tired.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Paige Pollard

Willing to train children?
Absolutely

No one is allergic.

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Steve has been attacked by multiple dogs, he's not aggressive at all but does well around social, neutral dogs with proper introduction. Because of this, any potential dog would need to be good with other dogs. I cannot risk setting back our progress with a poor fit.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We had our amazingly sweet corgi girl Fergie for 13 1/2 years. She was diagnosed with DM around 10 years old, and went on to live another 3 1/2 years. Once she was diagnosed she received physical therapy numerous times a week to keep her strong. She had a cart and fought hard to maintain her mobility. We lost her last year and are finally at a point where we want to welcome another corgi in our lives. We would ideally like to rescue a corgi, rather than buy one from a breeder, which brings us to Lakeshore Corgi Rescue.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
If our corgi is anything like Fergie, then it is nonstop games of fetch and long walks and trips to the dog park to help lower their nonstop energy level. We have 2 parks within walking distance of our home, which we would take Fergie to. They have plenty of squirrels to keep any corgi entertained.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I think it depends on the situation. If we are catching the dog in the act, then correcting the action while it is happening is key. We have been exposed to many corgis in our neighborhood and realize that each corgi has their own personality traits and issues.

Discipline:
When it comes to corgis, we think treat training and keeping a strong alpha attitude with them is important. Our corgi was the smartest dog we have ever owned, which has it's positive and negative advantages. She was very food motivated, which made treat training easy, but because they are smart, they also try to push the boundaries of the "rules" if left to their own devices. The main troubles we have seen with other corgi owners is that they think corgis are adorable and sweet, but have a hard time being stern, and the corgi manipulates that to its advantage and does whatever it want. Mainly because the owner is too timid. Our neighbors corgi was surrendered because the former owner had a child and never trained out the instinct to nip heels. Something that is trainable led to him being surrendered "because he bites". We know training a corgi is a large task. It is filled with constant efforts to stay one step ahead of a dog who tries to outsmart you.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We live in a highrise, so the dog would stay indoors. We keep the bedroom doors closed so that the dogs can run around. When Fergie was a puppy who loved to chew up when we left, she was crated until she was about 3 and was able to be trusted being out while we were gone.

People at home during the day?
Robby will be working from home a couple of days a week. On the days that both of us are at work, we have a dog walker come and walk the dogs mid-day.

Where would dog eat?
we had separate dog bowls for each dog in our kitchen. Mostly because Fergie was quite food aggressive.

Where would dog sleep:
Our dogs sleep in our bedroom at night. Fergie always cuddled in our bed. Later on she slept on a pad next to the bed because of incontinence due to her DM. Poppy sleeps next to the door, or under the bed.

Play & exercise:
we have two dog parks close to our house. We also have a dog walker. We know corgis require lots of walks/runs and opportunities to get out their energy.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes. we are willing and have. Poppy is a rescue and took a little bit to warm up to Fergie, but they became fine with each other after a week or so. Poppy is a dog meat trade survivor from Thailand. She lived at a rescue with 650 other dogs, so she takes a bit to warm up to another dog. Once she realizes the other dog isn't going anywhere she learns to tolerate them. She became sweet and protective over Fergie when she became less mobile.
