Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have adopted six corgis, three of whom were from Lakeshore. I love their intelligence, size, trainability.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We walk multiple times per day. My dear last girl came to work with me and was loved by officemates. I'm less inclined to go to dogparks because of possibility of aggression and disease transmission, though for an energetic dog, getting a good run is critically important.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Distraction. I'm inclined to limit their roaming areas in the beginning, having them close at hand with chews. Otherwise, I think crate training is a great way to provide parameters, with rewards for good behavior – small morsels/cookies – being really effective.

Discipline:
 I use a hand-clap and yes, I do say "No" to get their attention before calling them over to me. I like the idea of leashing them to me, especially at the start of the relationship if they are not crated, and rewarding them for coming over to me.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 With me at first. All my dogs have beds throughout the house and tend to hang out in them near me after the initial "close proximity" phase.

Discipline:

 We walk multiple times p/day. I have a neighboring corgi with whom to play. Sniffles/Duffy, a Lakeshore adult adoption, was particularly poorly behaved with other dogs except Butter, his housemate, so we ran at a local golf course/park. He was onleash otherwise.

 A big reason we are looking at a corgi is because we like the way they look, but as a breed they also have the right temperament we are looking for. We are looking for another smart, friendly dog to make our family complete! From what we have read corgis love to heard and stay busy, which is perfect for our mini Aussie.

 Just about everything we can do! We love to take our Aussie on walks, as well as to the park. We have a nice fenced in yard they can play in or just lounge around all day in the sun. We like to go for hikes, camping, and go tubing down the river also.

 When our Aussie is naughty we calmly let her know what she did was wrong, and initiate corrective action if necessary. She seems to respond well to us talking, but if she is barking too much or something we just say "hey, no barking" and typically that is enough.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 Outside as much as they want, inside the rest of the time. Our dogs are welcome to free roam the house besides the basement.

 My daughter is completely obsessed with Corgis. She is currently experiencing depression and social anxiety with the pandemic and think getting her a smaller dog would be the perfect fit for her.  I have never owned a Corgi. I'm looking for a small calm (relatively) dog to join the family. It's hard to find a good small dog to adopt; anything that's available goes very quickly, and the cuter, the faster. My pockets are not deep enough to buy from a breeder.

Who is this dog for?

 This Pembroke is for me. I recently purchased a home with a fenced in yard and the only thing this house is missing is a corgi. I have dreamed of having a corgi for a very long time and I can think of no better way to obtain a corgi than through adopting one in need.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for many reasons but the main reason I want to adopt is because I want to give a dog in need a good home. Theoretically I could go through a breeder and get a puppy if I really wanted to but I would prefer to save a corgi that has nowhere else to go. The breeder market already has a very large customer base.
What I love about corgis is their short but long stature, their unique quirks, and they energy. I had a neighbor when I was in high school whose family owned a corgi. I would spend hours playing with their dog and after I moved away I vowed to have one of my own one day.
I have done a lot of research on the breed. I keep up with a YouTube channel called VlogAfterCollege who posts many informative videos about the corgis they live with. I have also read many articles about owning a corgi and have talked with multiple families who own them to get a better sense of what they are like. I also visited a pet store that had corgis and spent a very long time speaking to one of the employees about corgis and their good and bad traits!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I am a very active person so my corgi, if it is an active pup, would ideally keep up with me. I like to go for walks on trails and through my neighborhood. I also have a fenced in back yard where the Pembroke could lounge and play all day. Rusty, my current dog, has his own pet room with lots of fun toys that he would love to share with another dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I am a psychology graduate and have years of experience in behavioral psychology as well as behavior management. I know the ins and outs of the different forms of reinforcement and punishment. I know that reinforcement is the most optimal form of behavior change. If my Pembroke made a mistake, like peeing on the floor, I would make sure that any potential punishment immediately followed the mistake. Animals are more unique than humans in that if reprimand (which is not a preferred punishment) does not follow the bad behavior within a reasonable amount of time then the punishment is rendered useless. If I did view the mistake happening I would give a light scolding and present the Pembroke with the proper place to do the behavior, like outside if the mistake was peeing on the floor inside.

Discipline:
 I would prefer not to use discipline because discipline after a bad behavior is less effective than reinforcement after a desired behavior. If there were behavioral issues, like let's say biting during play, I would remove the positive reinforcer (toy) from the situation which would be punishing to the dog. This sort of repeated subtle discipline by removing a positive stimulus over time teaches the animal that biting results in the loss of the toy and thus they would be less likely to bite.

 We have a decently sized house with three bedrooms and a playroom upstairs for our current dog. Our current dog spends a lot of time lounging on the deck or in the grass when the weather is nice but also loves to lounge in his room with his toys. Our dog has had other dogs over before and they love to play together in the pet room with all the different chew toys. I would expect the corgi to follow in his footsteps!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love that corgis have the intelligence and energy of most herding dogs while being in a smaller body. I have known corgis to be trainable, cuddly, and independent. I have done research on the breed and have fostered dogs to make sure I’m ready to own one.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		This is a wildly vague question. I believe in positive reinforcement. I would forgive the dog, and give them a chance to try again. And I would be active in rewarding any positive behavior. If the mistake happened in a stressful setting, I would do my best to help the dog relax first before trying again.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I am a pediatric occupational therapist; which I think helps me to be able to address behavioral responses well. I think that you have to give dogs opportunities to explore and learn which will obviously involve some mistakes! Every situation is different but should be handled with love, understanding, and patience.
