Who is this dog for?

Dustyn and Shawn

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I (Dustyn) have always been pro adoption. There are so many animals out there that need homes that often get overlooked for a new puppy. I would love the opportunity to give a little guy or girl a happy home and lots of loves. We fell in love with the quirkiness and personality of Corgis at young ages. Walter is our first together, however, Shawns family has had several while he was groing up.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are relatively active with Walter now. Playing fetch, catch, etc. In the backyard and going on a walk around the neighborhood or neighboring parks/lakes nearby as long as the weather allows. If it's raining, snowing, or too cold we head down to our large and open basement to zoom around and play fetch to get exercise daily.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the situation that is occurring as different acts cause for different actions. Mistakes happen but it is important to react in a positive and coaching manner. Positive interrupter to redirect the dogs attention if they are chewing on something they shouldn't, teach a word or noise to halt the mistake, training to avoid the mistake from happening in the future.

Discipline:
Walters discipline comes mostly from chewing or getting into things he shouldn't (i.e. a loose shoe, blanket, rug, etc.) For this we are sure to address the situation quickly by offering his favorite toy, using the phrase "leave it", or if he is ignoring us completely we have a timeout bed where we will tell him to go to his place and stay.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I (Dustyn) work from home so Walter and our future little one will be with me all day. Walter mostly hangs out with me in the office or living room indoors or trots around the fenced in backyard to soak up the sun in nice weather

People at home during the day?
Yes, I (Dustyn) works from home the majority of the time unless I have a business meeting that requires me to travel to the office or a customer's business.

Where would dog eat?
We have Walter's food and main water station setup by our dining room table so he can eat with us.

Where would dog sleep:
Walter has slept in our bed since he was about 2 months old. The adopted Corgi would have the option to sleep in the king sized bed as well or on the large dog bed in our room.

Play & exercise:
Walter and I play outside in the yard on lunch and go for a long walk after work is done. On the weekends we are constantly playing ball/Frisbee and go on 1 long walk or 2 shorter ones around the neighborhood a day.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We have a 4ft solid vinyl pee our HOA's requirements. When we installed it we requested it to be as close to the ground as possible as Walter was a very small puppy.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?

Who is this dog for?

Our family ?

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have certainly done our research. These pups seem like they would fit well with our energetic family. I giggled when I learned that they are a “heading” dog because I feel like we’re constantly herding our boys haha! Their smart, sweet, spunky temperament will be a wonderful addition to our family ?

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hopefully, our new pup will do just about everything with us! We are outside nearly all summer long. Either playing outside, taking walks and bike rides, or watching the boys play ball, we hope to have another family member to go on all of our fun adventures with us!

Like I said, we are a very active family and we live in a wonderful, pet friendly neighborhood. I see lots of playing in the backyard and walks!

Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

We are looking to add another dog to the family. We currently have a 9y/o Staffordshire Terrier and 2 cats which I have come to believe are ageless. We also have 2 children.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have not had much personal experience outside meeting a family friend's corgis when I was younger but I have been interested in the personalities these dogs are associated with for some time. From what research I have done their temperament is similar to Shelties which I grew up with and loved albeit they seem to be a bit more affectionate which would be great for a family dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Knowing how intelligent these dogs are playing games making him/her find treats and toys that are hidden would be the main indoor activity aside from lounging and loving on them as well. Outdoors would include walks, fetch and find games and honestly probably a lot of chasing the kids around the yard I have never met a herder that can resist chasing children.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Potty mistakes would have a brief verbal negative enforcement along with taking the dog outside immediately to try to reinforce potty training and be sure to reward good behavior/proper potty etiquette. Continued issues would likely result in crate training to limit accident areas and reinforce potty training. Unwanted chewing and scratching would again begin with verbal reinforcement and may also employ the use of a spray bottle. If these issues were to arise I would also make sure there are adequate toys and activities to keep idle paws from wanting to destroy all the things.

Discipline:
Negative verbals along with showing them the mistake is always a first step. Actively stopping destructive bad behaviors sometimes involves a spray bottle or a rattle to get their attention. Very naughty behavior could be escalated to time outs in the crate as well as continuous leash training. For any discipline method there is always a reward or positive reinforcement for good behavior as positive reinforcement is typically the best option.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Depending on the time of the year it would vary but he/she would be primarily an indoor dog with plenty of outdoor playtime in good weather as we would prefer to spend time with them and not just leave them outside to their own devices the entire time, granted their would be times this would be necessary but is preferred to not be continuous.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
99% of the time someone is home. If there is any time the house is unattended it is typically running errands.

Where would dog eat?
We have always fed our dogs either in the kitchen or dining room. When we have more than 1 dog present we do feed them in separate rooms to control possible food aggression. We use these particular rooms so all food and treats remain associated with that area.

Where would dog sleep:
Until fully trained and acclimated to our home we would start with a bed in a crate for the corgi. Once all parties are comfortable and adjusted the crate may be removed or simply left open to create a space they can claim as theirs. If I wake up to a Corgi in my bed I would not be angry

Play & exercise:
Walks would be frequent but not daily depending on other responsibilities that may require us to stay close to home. We would eventually like to get a fence but would start off with an overhead dog trolly with plenty of lead to roam the yard and play with different toys and chase the kids. We also have another dog that loves toys and tug. For indoor it would mainly be tug and games hiding their toys.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Living arrangements:
Own home

Landlord info:
{If you rent/lease your home, please list the name, telephone number and email address of your landlord. State “Not Applicable” if you own your own home.:67}

Breed/size restrictions?
No

Description of yard:

Corner lot with a yard that circles the entire property. We have an oak, a maple, and a plum tree shading part of the play area. This is a house in the city so the yard is not large but is adequate for running and playing. Walks are required to add variety to the daily life because of this.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Trisha Manns

Willing to train children?
Yes we have already done a lot of this with our children and our current pets. Granted our current pets have also been trained to deal with children and how to be gentle with them and we would need to teach our children to be respectful of any boundaries or quirks a new animal may have and vise versa.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Our Staffordshire Terrier is very picky about other dogs but is typically more friendly towards smaller dogs and female dogs. He is not guaranteed to take to a new dog however and we are aware this may require additional training if his reaction is mild. We would prefer he be allowed to meet any potential adoptee first as if he has a strong negative reaction it would be unfair to force him to tolerate a new animal.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.

Who is this dog for?

Myself!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are adorable and a small to medium sized dog. It would be very appropriate for my living situation since I am in an apartment complex. I also like how they are moderately active. I am active myself, and would love to go for walks with some company who also likes to stay active. I also love how corgis are social and enjoy human interaction. Unfortunately, I never lived with dogs because my parents are allergic, but I grew up with different dogs from extended family and friends.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
As mentioned earlier, I would love to go for walks with a dog who also enjoys going for walks. I also live by a dog park, so the Pembroke and I will be going to the dog park often and play outside. Another big thing that will happen is the training, especially when first introduced to my home, so the Pembroke can get used to the new setting. Lastly, I would enjoy some nights to pet and chill with my Pembroke.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would calmly, but firmly tell them "no" to the adopted Pembroke. I would promptly do this, so they know and learn to understand that it is a mistake and should not occur.

Discipline:
I think the first step would be establishing a daily routine, so they understand what time it is to eat, when its time for a walk, time to sleep etc. Any misbehavior can be correctly but calmly and firmly stating "no" any time the dog needs to be disciplined, being consistent and and prompt with it. A positive reinforcement would also be used if they produce a good behavior by giving them a treat.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They would spend most of their time in my apartment either in my room or the living room.
