Who is this dog for?

Both of us and our rescue pup (she is an 8 year old beagle corgi mix)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have fallen in love with the corgi aspects of our current rescue pup. She is playful but always willing to cuddle. We love that balance. She demands attention and we are always willing to show her all the love we have for her. We also love her sploots (: we have definitely researched the breed and are ready for all our future corgi has to offer.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We go on daily walks around the lake by our house. Our current dog doesn’t like to play with toys, but if our corgi does, we will gladly play with them inside and outside our house. We also like to play in other ways such as chase. We will also partake in obedience training with our pup. We see it as a o ding experience as well as a learning and growth opportunity for them.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depending on the mistake, it’s either a quick “tsst” sound to make them stop or it’s by redirecting the behavior and rewarding the good behavior

Discipline:
Never do we discipline. We stop bad or dangerous behaviors (as said above) and reward good behaviors.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside the house or our fenced in yard. Our current dog also likes to spend time in her crate, which is left open for her to choose to go in there. We will also provide a crate for our corgi.

Who is this dog for?

for our family:
Jason, Erika, and Sam (16 year old son)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our family would love the opportunity to adopt a Corgi. Over the years, we’ve had many pets including two cats, guinea pigs, and even a frog. We’ve been in the process of considering adopting a dog for several years, and as such, we’ve done tremendous amounts of research on Corgis and on other breeds. We are especially interested in Corgis due to their intelligence, playful nature, and warm personalities.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a reasonably-sized house and a large yard, and we’d love to play outside with the dog. There are many walking paths and parks near our house for us to walk the dog. After the pandemic is over, we would also love to travel with the dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would clean up the accident right away. In the future, we'd encourage the dog to go outside and positively reinforce their good behavior.

Discipline:
For any negative behavior, we would first look back at our own actions and assess the problem.

We would thoroughly doggy-proof the house and spend additional time playing with the dog to prevent any destructive behavior.

If the dog showed repeated negative behavior towards humans, we would look into additional training classes for them.

In general, we'd always use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Corgi would spend most of their time inside, wherever they want. All areas accessible to the dog would be doggy-proofed.

Any time the Corgi spends outside would either be enclosed (within the confines of the fence or on a tether) or supervised.

People at home during the day?
Yes. Kim is retired. Lisa works from home.

Where would dog eat?
The dogs have their own room. Just off the kitchen. Food bowls and water are in there. They eat and then they come out to the living area. Their beds, toys are kept in there. When pups are inside, they bring whatever toys they want to play with into whatever room we are in and we play.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever he/she wants. There will be a bed in the dogs room. They are permitted to sleep in the living room or in our rooms. Usually though our dogs put themselves to sleep in their room when they are ready.

Play & exercise:
We play with our dogs mostly at night. During the day, they can go outside and run in our fenced yard. They tend to poop themselves out pretty quickly, but are ready to play adinner. After dinner.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

The yard is large. One side is bordered by the house and garage, two sides are bordered by a six ft. tall wood fence. The last side is a four ft. chain link. Our neighbors asked us not to put a wood fence along that side of the yard because their dogs love to run along the fence line with our dogs and they play.

Who is this dog for?

For myself 🙂

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love Corgi’s. I grew up in the Midwest wanting one since I was young and could never have one. I love their personality and how spastic and chill they can be. Although I love all dogs, I prefer a small to medium sized dog as it is easier to take to work and travel with. I understand they are prone to health issues because of their build/structure, and I understand it is a possibility down the road to deal with. Every time I have interacted with a corgi, it has always been great! I love to play and enjoy their energy and excitement. Plus, have you ever seen a corgi in a costume?! They are absolutely fantastic!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lots of walks and adventures! I currently am located in Hawaii for my job, so there are tons of beaches and hikes to go on! Lots of parks to play fetch and run around, water to splash in and cool down, and I live in a very dog friendly neighborhood so they always have socializing events and activities for dogs. I also would like to enroll them in training/obedience classes to teach it commands and overall have an obedient dog to make adventures more easy going.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I understand that most behaviors stem from cues and dogs reacts accordingly. I would not appraise a mistake. Ultimately I think it would depend on what the mistake is. Ie peeing in the house, I would adjust outdoor time/potty time to be more frequent to prevent it. I would also purchase spray to help prevent the dog from peeing inside. Ie if it bit or nipped at me. I’d use a deeper and strict toned “no” and/or let out a “Yelp” to let them know it is not playful. Although hopefully training and obedience classes could help prevent most mistakes from occurring.

Discipline:
No treat appraisals when something negative occurs. Could also include kennel/crate time out for a bit after the incident occurs to allow the corgi a safe space to relax. I’d also invoke commands learned with training and obedience classes.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With myself. I work from home mostly so I would be home with the corgi. My office is also dog friendly so I could take them with me when I go to work. I also am an outdoor active person, so we would be going to lots of parks and the beach to cool off very often. I wouldn’t get a dog if it couldn’t have lots of attention and time.

People at home during the day?
Just me

Where would dog eat?
It would eat inside the home unless feeding schedule happens to be when we are not home. I’d do my best to accommodate as I know dogs like a consistent and safe space to eat.

Where would dog sleep:
In my room with me. I would have a dog bed for the corgi to sleep in and train it to not sleep on furniture.

Play & exercise:
I live in a dog friendly community. There are lots of parks and dog parks and dog socializing events near me. I also love right across the street from a beach and huge park to go on lots of walks and to run around and play. As my job isn’t a strict 9-5 position, I can be very flexible and take the corgi out and exercise multiple times a day. I also have a large outdoor patio area at my place to play fetch and run around. I love playing with dogs so I’d definitely wear a corgi out.

Who is this dog for?

My husband and I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
It's a breed I've always loved, and I would prefer to rescue like we did with our other 2 dogs.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, naps, playing, car rides…whatever the dog likes to do. I think they teach you what things they like when you pay attention.

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Redirect its attention, correct without yelling if necessary

Discipline:
The tone of your voice conveys your approval or disapproval….we've always talked to our dogs – I would only be physical if the situation was dangerous, ie. keeping him or her free from danger.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house with us

House dog

People at home during the day?
Usually

Where would dog eat?
We kept food and water dishes in the kitchen. Our other dogs were free-fed, but it would depend on the dog.

Where would dog sleep:
We've never crated our dogs at night once they no longer liked it, but some dogs do, so we would let the dog sleep in one if it wanted to….but I'm sure my husband would build stairs to the bed and allow that option as well.

Play & exercise:
Daily walks, indoor and outdoor toys, maybe trips to the local dog park.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Who is this dog for?

Both of us. We miss our baby so much. She was an 11yo rescue when we got her and passed away a month ago at almost 16yo, of a brain tumor.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are absolutely addicted to them! This will be our third Pembroke and we are pretty much decided that we never want to be without one. We had our first one, Caedi, from a puppy until she passed away due to cancer at age 12. Our second corgi, Ein, was an 11yo rescue that came directly to us from the previous family, due to them moving to China and not wanting to subject her to the long quarantine. She rescued us as we were so heartbroken over the loss of Caedi. We just had Ein put to sleep after she was suffering from major convulsions that the vet hospital said were probably due to a brain tumor. Our lives are so empty without a corgi. This is the first Christmas in 17 years that we did not share with a corgi…

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lots of walking. We live a block from a city owned lakefront park, where our corgis have been issued special passes to chase the geese. That is also where we keep our 35’ sailboat that we sail and cruise around the Great Lakes. We also kayak. And we have a place in Florida that we drive to and spend a couple of months at, walking in the park and on the beach. We have a fenced back yard and we travel to a family cottage up north for them to run and swim.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the mistake. We normally use a stern voice and them try to redirect with positive reinforcement.

Discipline:
We have used a clicker and treat for some behaviors, time out for some instances and yelping and ignoring for nipping.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We almost never leave our dogs alone. We take them wherever we go, adjusting travel to always have our puppy with us. We are very familiar with pet friendly hotels, restaurants, stores and beaches.
