Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My sister recently got a corgi and I fell in love with him when they came to stay with me. I'd like one of my own now. I had a doberman pinscher from puppy to 10 years and I am missing having a buddy around the house.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I like taking my dogs for walks as well as snuggling on the couch. I'm looking into getting a smaller dog this time around in order to be able to travel with him easier.

We are absolutely addicted to them! This will be our third Pembroke and we are pretty much decided that we never want to be without one. We had our first one, Caedi, from a puppy until she passed away due to cancer at age 12. Our second corgi, Ein, was an 11yo rescue that came directly to us from the previous family, due to them moving to China and not wanting to subject her to the long quarantine. She rescued us as we were so heartbroken over the loss of Caedi. We just had Ein put to sleep after she was suffering from major convulsions that the vet hospital said were probably due to a brain tumor. Our lives are so empty without a corgi. This is the first Christmas in 17 years that we did not share with a corgi…

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lots of walking. We live a block from a city owned lakefront park, where our corgis have been issued special passes to chase the geese. That is also where we keep our 35’ sailboat that we sail and cruise around the Great Lakes. We also kayak. And we have a place in Florida that we drive to and spend a couple of months at, walking in the park and on the beach. We have a fenced back yard and we travel to a family cottage up north for them to run and swim.

Who is this dog for?

The corgi would be for my mom, Pat Buttney, who is looking for a dog for companionship. She has always had a dog and misses the companionship, especially during this pandemic. My mom lives in coach house in nearby retirement village where she can take the corgi for walks and lavish her new companion with all her love.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My mom has never owned a Pembroke Welsh Corgi but I have friends that have them and I have come to love the breed. The corgis I have met are sweet, loving and just want to be with their humans. I have done a little further research on the breed and after talking everything over with my mom, we both feel the Pembroke would be a good match for her. Pembroke Welsh Corgi's are just the right size and have the loving temperament we're looking for.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Basically we're looking for a a companion for my mom. A corgi who is happy to cuddle with here and get plenty of attention. Plus, an Corgi that will go on slower walks with my mom.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Sternly say no, not associating his/her name with the "no" and move on. Then when I show the dog the behavior I'm looking for and he/she completes the task, I would generously reward the dog with his/her favorite treats and plenty of praise.

Discipline:
Basically just using the word "no" and not rewarding her/him for that behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house with my mom or anywhere else she might be.

Yes, my mom is home all the time. If she is gone for periods of time, it is for short periods such as for a trip to the doctor or grocery store. When she visits my house or one of my siblings house, we all live in the area, the Pembroke would come would come with her to visit.

Where would dog eat?
the adopted corgi would eat in a designated area set up in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
The corgi would sleep would sleep in my moms bedroom. He/she would have the choice to sleep in the bed with my mom or in its own bed in the same bedroom. The corgi can decide what he/she would like to do.

Play & exercise:
The corgi will have plenty of playtime with toys that he/she can play with either by themselves or with my mom. Walks will also be provided for daily exercise.

Description of yard:

My moms coach house does a patio that is fenced on one side, but is open to a common area in the back. There is no pool in the area and the corgi would always be taken outside on a leash. When my mom visits any of her children in the area, we all have fenced yards where the corgi would be free to run and play.

Who is this dog for?

Walter

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Perry was my best friend. He was my companion and helped me through some of the worst experiences of my life. I am a disabled combat veteran. He was a Dorgi and had the best most caring attitude I have ever seen. His cancer devasted me. He was not a trained therapy dog but knew what to do. I would love a Dorgi again. He looked more Corgi than Dachshund. I never knew I could be so attached. I still miss him so.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live on a farm with fenced yards and goats with chickens. He would hopefully do chores with me as well as be with me all the time. We have two other outside dogs for animal protection. We have one other older dog in the house who is older with diabetes.

While we don't have kids right now, we will in the future and want to make sure we get a dog that we are comfortable with being around our children as well as their friends. We also have a lab/beagle mix that can be hit or miss with other dogs and his happiness is our #1 priority. He has never had any issues with Corgis and his best friend is a Corgi mix so that initially drew us to the breed. However, it's very difficult to find dogs to adopt right now and we do not believe in purchasing from a breeder.

Who is this dog for?

We would like to adopt one as our family pet.

We would address the situation right as it happened. We know no one is perfect and we expect things to happen.

Discipline:
Loud clap and say No. Startle the dog so it realizes what it's doing isn't correct.
Never physical punishment!

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With us, any chance we get! We are looking for a new companion and member of the household.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I'm looking for a companion dog overall! The Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed is a great fit for my needs and wants: small, energetic and tough enough to go for walks and hikes, and friendly enough to love everyone! I do not have specific experience with the breed, but I have done my research and believe my lifestyle and personality would be a good fit for a corgi's needs.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would love to take my corgi on long walks, meet other dogs at the dog park, have dog playdates with friends' dogs, and go for hikes and adventures! I am pretty open to adjusting my lifestyle to the kind of care and activity that my Pembroke needs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would correct the behavior if immediately if possible, but if I notice the misbehavior after the incident, there is no point in trying to correct it. For example, if my dog barks when I don't want it to bark, I would immediately correct it by telling it to sit and give it a treat when it performs the desired behavior.

Discipline:
I will utilize positive reinforcement training, as alluded to above. If a dog misbehaves, I will ask it to do the expected behavior, like don't jump when you meet someone, then give it a treat.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I am gone about 4 hours of the day for work, so it will be with me wherever I am when I'm not working. It will be an indoor dog.

House dog

People at home during the day?
When I'm not at work, yes. I live alone.

Where would dog eat?
They would eat on the floor out of a dog bowl. I have fed dogs Taste of the Wild in the past.

Where would dog sleep:
They would sleep wherever they want to inside my apartment. That could be on a dog bed, in my bed, on the couch or wherever they prefer.

Play & exercise:
I don't have a fenced yard, so I would take my Pembroke on a walk several times a day to expel energy. I would also like to take my Pembroke to the dog park to exercise and socialize if they are good with other dogs. I intend to socialize them to get them to a point to be good around at least most dogs hopefully.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash
