Who is this dog for?

Myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I had a Pug-Corgi. Absolutely loved him. He was most definitely an emotional support animal and I didn't even realize how much until he passed away! Whenever I was sad or there was even some strain of sadness in my voice, he would push his way up into my face and I'd calm right down because I didn't want him to worry. Now, he's not here to help me mourn his death. It's just been so rough and I want to give another little buddy as much love.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Just walks and snuggling. We would play hide and seek in the apartment hallway. He just loved that. He'd do zoomies and I'd hide behind different corners in the hallway. 🙂 I wouldn't mind being more active, as well. I'm only 49, so I could handle some more activity with my boy/girl.

I also plan on getting pet insurance. My daughter has it with her dog, Brody. I think it's a must, now. Also, I'm careful to buy food with the main ingredient as meat.

Most of the time. I'm home for lunch, evenings and weekends. My 18 yr old son is home for Covid and will be at home next year while he's at UND as well. He also misses our boy.

Where would dog sleep:
Anywhere he wants to. Hopefully, on the bed with me. I'm not opposed to kennels in general, but I much prefer the company at night.

Play & exercise:
Lots of walks wherein I keep a running patter of nothing conversation. We have a large outdoor area to run and a couple of local dog parks. We are supposed to get a dog park at our building in the next year. I always walk around our large building, as well. I always let my boy stop and smell all the dog messages!

Who is this dog for?

Myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the breed but would likely only get one as a surrendered pet. I like that they have big dog personality but can be apartment/condo sized friendly. I love that they are affectionate but also watch dogs, so that they can be good if I have people over or take them with to visit family but also feel safe while living alone. I also have a cat and they often get along with other animals well. I also love that they can be my walking buddy, they have little legs but still are active and able to go for a stroll but also don't require a ton of exercise to stay healthy and fit.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Mostly go on walks. I like to walk everyday and am looking for a little walking buddy. I live near Lake Michigan so maybe in the summer we could take a few walks by the beach to play near the water too if the dog I adopt also likes the water.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If I was there to see it I would immediately try to correct the behavior. For instance an accident in the house I would say to and try to get them outside. If I had come home to find maybe it had eaten a book or something from the bookshelf I would show it to them and still say no, but I have heard they can't make the connection so I would need to just chalk it up to a loss.

Discipline:
With walking

People at home during the day?
Sometimes I am, but sometimes not. My family is local though so any long days I could bring the dog by her or she could stop by to spend some time there and maybe go for a walk or let them out.

Where would dog eat?
I get Fromms kibble for my cat so would likely just buy Fromms for the dog too.

Where would dog sleep:
Is it bad to say my bed probably? I would get them a dog bed also for the floor in my room.

Play & exercise:
I would go for walks every day. I'm thinking one in the morning and one at night minimally. I also have many family and friends with dogs so whenever we get together there would be pals for the dog to play with.

I have always been in love with this breed. I have always been a dog owner and have adopted all the pets I have parented. I have had all sorts of breeds. My last dog Jackson passed this past February and it is only just recent that I have decided it was time to look to adopt a new furbaby. I thought this time, I would love a corgi or a corgi mix. I think that the temperament and size of this dog would be perfect for my current livestyle. Not to mention they are the cuties breed ever.

Who is this dog for?

The dog would be for myself, however my 22 year old son lives with me and is in college full time.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always loved this breed. I grew up with my neighbor having two Corgis. I also dated a man 2 years ago who had a corgi who he took everywhere with him, even on his sail boat, unfortunately Jordon was 15 years old and passed during our relationship. They are very smart and sweet and loved to be loved on. What I mostly love about the breed is how adorable they are. I have literally stopped people in the street who have a corgi just to love on them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Since I live in a townhouse condo, we would do a great deal of walking locally around. That is the think I miss not having a dog for the past 10 months. I try to go out and walk alone but it feels strange having been a dog walker for years. I would also cuddle and yes I let my dogs sleep in my bed…

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
What kind of mistake? I don't think I understand that question. If my dog peed on the floor it would have been my mistake for not taking them for a walk. If the dog chewed something up it would have been my mistake for leaving it out. I don't think dogs make mistakes. They need to be trained with positive reinforcement. Then if they slip up you just need to reinforce the good behaviors.

Discipline:
Again I have always trained my dogs in the past with positive reinforcement. I have never hit or in anyway used punitive punishment on either a dog or a child. I don't believe that is ever necessary.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Next to me. Currently I am working from home and although I do plan to be back to working in an office at some point, I don't think I will ever be working in an office Full time again. When I am at work the dog will be home alone for that short time. My office when I do go back is only 5 miles away from my home. This is one of the reasons I am hoping to find a dog now while I am home full time, he/she will get to know me and get comfortable being in this home.

Who is this dog for?

Myself. I bought this condo this year and live alone and work from home. The previous owners had a dog and I've always wanted a corgi. There is a fenced-in patio at my place and a dog park a few blocks away.

I have a car, a great job, and a lot of time on my hands. There are many dogs in my building. I had a yellow lab that lived a spoiled, long life with my family so I am well-aware of the time commitment of a dog.

I believe I am a perfect candidate. Thank you!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have wanted a corgi for the last 10 years. I think they are adorable and understand that they are pretty energetic. I think their mischievous personality is adorable. I find myself watching corgi videos on YouTube frequently.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would love to play toys with my corgi at home, but also walks around the neighborhood and to the beach. There is a dog park a few blocks away to take the dog. But I also hope to cuddle up with such a cute dog too.

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I do plan on taking the dog to obedience classes for professional assistance and training. I know that training a dog is important and more than just telling it no. I do promise to never hit the dog, I could never!

Discipline:
I know I have a lot to learn and will continue to do my research, but telling the dog no, stopping the behavior, and being assertive. If possible, using treats to encourage the correct behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At my loft. Since I work from home I will be able to spend my days with him or her and then around the neighborhood in the evening (and likely the nearby dog park/beach).

House dog

People at home during the day?
yes, I work from home.

Where would dog eat?
I have a huge kitchen and there's a whole area perfect for food and water bowls. My sister brought her two dogs during a visit and they were very happy here.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom, likely in their own bed. But I wouldn't mind the dog sharing my queen sized bed.

Play & exercise:
I know it's essential to exercise corgis every day. I am an active person myself, so it will be nice to walk around the neighborhood each day at a minimum.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Who is this dog for?

Me. I live alone.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have mostly had rescue sporting dogs (all died in old age except one at 14 with brain cancer) but since I am now 60, I’d like a smaller, less hyper dog. I am part Welsh so have always followed the Corgi breed and like their personality! There are Corgis in my area. I have no preference as to Pembroke or Cardigan Welsh Corgi or even a mixed breed Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking on the neighborhood and nearby park trails, playing and snuggling at home and in the porch and small (unfenced) yard (with open space behind), going camping in a hard side travel trailer, going to the dog park

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Absolutely no yelling. Figure out the cause – is it anxiety, or physical or environment? Address the cause with redirection, positive reinforcements, retraining, vet consultation, behavior consultation (my sister is amazing with animal behavior modification and training)

Discipline:
Redirection, distraction, reassurance, retraining or training positive reinforcement. Training treats. Toys. Crate if needed and only if that works for the dog. (I had a dog who could never tolerate a crate.) Never yelling.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I’m retired, so the Corgi would be spending most of the day with me, with the only exception being where a dog would not be permitted.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I am retired so am home excepting errands where dogs are not allowed. I see no point in having a dog if it lives outside.

Where would dog eat?
A veterinarian-recommended diet of quality food (or prescription as needed).

Where would dog sleep:
On a comfortable dog bed or with me on my bed as the Corgi prefers. I would get a step system for access to the bed. Maybe in a crate with a bed, if that is what the Corgi would prefer.

Play & exercise:
I like to walk. There are walking trails within the neighborhood and at a nearby park. There is also a dog park in town.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes. Cheetah is being treated for kidney disease so her life span is unknown. Both have grown up around active dogs. Kink is so mellow she likes to snuggle and sleep with dogs. I would do anything and everything possible to make sure my pets get along and are happy.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the mistake. Say if the Pembroke chewed the curtain, I'd say "NO" and we used to spray vinegar on the curtain so our last the dog wouldn't chew on it again.

Discipline:
Say the dog pee'd indoors, we used to either have our dog go to his bed and stay there. Or we would block the dog from coming into the room he pee'd in.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home indoors. The kitchen and living room are the rooms used the most.
