I’d like a fairly active Corgi only because my Mayzie is only a year old and she is so outgoing, playful and energetic. I’m afraid if I took on one that was more relaxed Mayzie would be in her face all of the time trying to play.

Who is this dog for?

Myself and my sweet girl Mayzie PW Corgi

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt because every Corgi deserves a “furever” home filled with love and care. I’ve been around this breed for 25 years. I’ve been a breeder (several yrs ago) and I’ve purchased corgis through friends of mine that are breeders in the past including my current girl Mayzie. Now I want to adopt one. What I love about the breed is that they all have the similar corgi traits and quirks but each is their own personality. My late corgi Homer who lost his battle to the worst kind of cancer a dog can have was my 4 legged little soul mate. He was very protective of me, he would through his chewies in the air and chase after them. He would also talk to me all the time. He didn’t give a lot of kisses but I knew when I got one it was special. He was a cuddle bug. He would stay by my side no matter where we went …. whether it was to the bathroom or a hike. He was playful at times but more laid back. Now Mayzie … she gives kisses until you actually have to push her away, she is a cuddle bug but more independent than my Homer was. She wants to play ALL the time (she is young though and so a lot of that is still being a puppy). She destroys her toys where Homer didnt. Mayzie barks at everything where Homer barked at squirrels ? and people getting close to the house. Homer you could not take a chewie out of his mouth or mess with his good bowl while he was eating. Mayzie you can do that. Homer I could do his nails no problem, Mayzie …. not so much. So although they are similar because of the breed, they are different in their personalities.
I also run a Facebook page that I created 4 years ago called Corgmopolitan so Homer was and Mayzie is famous world wide.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We go on hikes, Kayaking, truck rides to visit my parents (out of state) We spend a lot of time outside just hanging out. We go to my sons farm and Mayzie gets to play with her cousin Fly who is a border collie and explore the farm. We play games inside the house as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
In all of the years I’ve been around this breed I’ve have never (knock on wood) ever had serious behavior issues with any of them. The worst mistake I’ve ever had is potting in the house. If that happens I first have to look at the reason why it happened. Did I not take them out at the required time, is something upsetting them to where they are trying to just get my attention, are they sick, or maybe we are visiting family and in a different atmosphere. When I look at these options there is not a need for punishment. If for some odd reason they go potty in the house and none of the previous listed above do not apply, I find by just looking at them and asking them “what’s this” and telling them that that’s naughty is usually enough to correct them. See I find a lot of behavior issues can be resolved by your communication to them. Corgis are EXTREMELY smart and they know when they have done something naughty. You don’t need hard core discipline with this breed. Mayzie will respond to me when I snap my fingers. When we visit my son and his family and my grandkids have crackers or whatever in their hands and Mayzie thinks she can eat out of their hands I just snap my finger and says “Mayzie … NO” and she stops.

Discipline:
Oops …. just listed that above.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me and if I’m at work …. in the house … the whole house NO crate.

They will get a lot of excercise. Mayzie and I play fetch in the house and we play with her toys too. I also take Mayzie on long walks as my house backs up to a huge parks with trails. There are also forest preserve trails around me that I like to take them too. I’m NOT a fan of dog parks because I am anally picky and I don’t know if others keep their dogs up to date on their shots or some people can’t control their dogs and it makes me nervous.

Who is this dog for?

Our family. We have 2 other dogs currently: Riley, a beagle who is 5 and Amber who is a beagle mix who is 5.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
After visiting my friends house and meeting their corgi I immediately fell in love with the breed. I enjoyed just how affectionate they could be as well and energetic. My favorite thing to do with my dogs is to cuddle and play with them and I believe a corgi would be a perfect addition to our family for those reasons. I also love training my dogs and teaching them tricks and I know that the breed is very bright and alert. I've done a bit of research on the breed in my spare time.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I love to go for long walks and occasionally jogs. I would defiantly love a good walking buddy. I enjoy playing with my dogs. My favorite being fetch, but I haven't been able to teach my current dogs how to play fetch so maybe this time it'll work out. Like I said, I also want to tech them new skills and tricks along the way. At some point when it is better time to go out I would love to take them to the dog park so they can run around a socialize with other dogs.

Who is this dog for?

Primarily myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the Pembroke Welsh Corgi's personality, they are intelligent and friendly and seem like excellent companions based on the ones I've interacted with. Also of course they are very cute.

I have researched the breed and in particular read The New Complete Pembroke Welsh Corgi by Deborah S. Harper, which a breeder named Lesa Daugherty from Michigan recommended to me.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks around neighborhood, lake-shore trail, dog parks, possibly hiking or something else like agility courses if it is recommended or the corgi is used to it. I do have a car.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the mistake, but talk to the dog/talk to it in a sterner tone and not positively reinforce the behavior by doing something like giving a treat or petting afterwards.

Discipline:
Withholding treats/affection, taking a firmer tone with the dog, reinforcing good behavior with treats and petting, etc… I am not an expert in this area but would like to learn more.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my decently-sized apartment.

Usually

Play & exercise:
Go for walks around the neighborhood/drive to the suburbs for walks in more open space. Walk along the lakefront path and take the dog to a nearby dog park.

I am also open to hiking or taking the corgi to agility courses if they would enjoy it.

Myself and my husband

Why do you want a Pembroke?
As previously stated we have owned 2 Corgis. I love their personalities and their size.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live on a 5 acre parcel so the dogs have ample room to exercise. Now that my own daughters are on their own, we have more time to devote to a dog, I would be able to attend training classes if that was necessary. We are homebodies my husband is retired and is home most of the time.

In the past we have used crate training and timed potty schedules.
If the dog has an accident, as soon as possible take him outside to let him know that's where he needs to go. Dog proofing the house to eliminate chewing on shoes and other things.

Discipline:
Crate training, obedience classes, leash/collar training.
We worked extensively with an in home trainer with the beagle as he was very resource aggressive.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house and the yard, we do have an invisible fence and have great success with training both our corgis and beagle and 2 labs to the fencing.

Who is this dog for?

This sweet pup would be mainly my dog, but I do live with my family so they would help, as well. We already have 2 older labs also.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have wanted to adopt a Corgi for as long as I can remember. I talk about wanting to do so pretty much everyday. I have conducted tons of research on the breed, whether it be about training, temperament, etc. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love dogs and especially Corgis.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Like I do with my two other dogs now, I would take my Pembroke on frequent walks, spend lots of time playing, and give him/her a life filled with love.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We trained our other dogs using positive reinforcement. However, we also make sure to let them know if they do something wrong.

Discipline:
I’m a big believer in positive reinforcement. The only discipline I have ever given a dog is telling them “no” in a stern voice.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside of my house and outside when needed.
