Who is this dog for?

This would be a dog for our family. We rescue/foster border collies with Clancy’s Dream Rescue. We would love to add a corgi in need of a home to our pack

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I had several growing up. I’ve always considered getting one as an adult. As an adult I’ve had Australian shepherds and border collies and I enjoy the hearder mentality in a dog

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are an active outdoor family that takes our dogs everywhere we can. Camping, hiking, family vacations, etc. we are all avid dog lovers

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends. We have learned through fostering 14+ dogs over the last two years dogs have various adjustment times that can last months. Aggression is a big no. Other temperament issues are most dealt with positive reinforcement and consistency

Discipline:
I’m big on rewarding positive behaviors but more than anything consistency.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside the house. We have open crates for our current dogs for comfort but they have free reign of the indoors and usually sleep in our bed. We have a large fenced in back yard for play

The kid/adult bedroom (or bed!) of its choosing

Who is this dog for?

Ourselves

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Have always liked the breed for their looks and temperament. Our friend has a Corgi and has recommended the breed to us after hanging out with said corgi. We have done research on the breed and enjoy playing with my friend’s corgi very much. We also prefer to have a smaller to medium size dog for the amount of space we have available to us at the moment.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Outdoor walks, playing (indoors and outdoors), cuddles, grooming. Training fun tricks. We would enjoy taking the dog in the car on road trips and short errands as well.

Lauren & Michael

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I grew up with a fluffy Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who is still my very best friend! She is 11 years old now. I love corgis for their temperament, sweetness, curiosity and size! From my experience, they tend to be great family dogs. (Although my husband and I do not have any kids).

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, dog parks/puppy playdates (if my corgi enjoys being near other dogs), car rides (if my corgi likes the car), hikes, swims, lots of cuddling on the couch!

Tell the Pembroke that what it has done is not okay. When my parent’s Pembroke was a puppy, she often nipped us. We were told to let out a high pitched yell to let her know that she was hurting us.

Discipline:
Aside from above, I’d also give the dog the cold shoulder when it has behaved badly (i.e. not give it my normal attention/affection for a period of time).

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our apartment.

Who is this dog for?

For myself. My household contains 4 grown sons and myself. We are very much homebodies. We enjoy daily walks and weekly trips to the dog park but will not be super active. We have a moderate sized fenced yard. We currently have no other pets in the household. I have lived with at least one dog companion my entire life and am missing the companionship of a friend since my previous pup passed. We do not currently anticipate getting more than one dog, but would like that option left open.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have owned, or been owned by, two corgi mixes in the past. I love that this breed is smart and trainable. They are very attached to their companions. They are 'protective' of the home, but mostly in the 'hey someone is at the door' sort of way. They can be a bit barky, but are willing to learn better manners. They tend to be cuddle bugs which is especially nice on winter evenings. They tend, as youngsters especially, to enjoy a bit of mischief. They like to be the center of lots and lots and lots of attention. Unlike many breeds who have become popular, health issues do not seem to be exacerbated in the corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Frequent walks, at least daily. Dog park outings at least once a week. Run errands around town. Hang out around the house and play when there is a desire. Camping in the summers with short day hikes. I have trained and handled therapy dogs for work at school and retirement homes. I enjoy this, but not all dogs are suited to this and I am not not specifically looking for a therapy candidate. My current school allows therapy animals only from one program so this pup would not be eligible to work at school with me.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the 'mistake'. If it is an accident in the house that's on me. I need to be aware of their need and schedule outside trips frequently. If it's chewing that is usually a sign of stress or boredom. I would try giving them more challenging activities during the day like puzzle balls or toys if it looks like they are bored or try to figure out what triggers anxiety if that is what I think is happening. If it's anxiety related then alter or change the environment to reduce the triggers and make sure they have a safe place to go to when stressed.. If it is a behavior that needs better manners – jumping on people, excessive barking etc. – then training and consistency of praise for proper behavior is appropriate.

Discipline:
Training for expectations with lots of praise for appropriate behavior,
A verbal no or leave it when out and about.
Really in my experience disciple isn't super effective, training with praise and positive reinforcement is a far better approach.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home, lets be honest I'm a home body. However, I want to be able to go for walks in the neighborhood, go to the dog park, run errands around town, visit friends and go camping in the summer with my furry friend in tow.

People at home during the day?
Generally speaking there is at least one person home during the day (with 5 of us it sort of is inevitable).

Where would dog eat?
Assuming I can resist treats, and let's be honest I can't always, my dogs usually have had bowls with food and water in the kitchen. I feed to schedule or open grazing depending on the dog.

Where would dog sleep:
OK my dogs always end up sleeping on my bed. I provide a dog bed and a crate if the dog prefers, but pretty much everyone just defaulted to my bed.

Play & exercise:
Play you say? Why sure anywhere anytime. would love at least one daily walk by my furry friend, runs and hos at the local dog park as able, roaming the backyard for general exploration purposes.

Who is this dog for?

Companionship. For Husbend & Wife household along with 2 Jack Russell sisters.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Having Jack Russells I see a very similar disposition. I am a horse owner, and have interacted with them at numerous barns. I would love to own one!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live on 1 1/2 acres. Dogs run loose (under supervision). If not, they are on 50ft cables. We do go on walks approx. 2 blks away to the park and go through the wooded trails. I also take them (one at a time) to lake Michigan and Grant park for a great afternoon hike.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the mistake! If he pee'd on the floor, I would let it go…maybe I did not see the "signs" he wanted to go out… If he walked right over to the other dog, demanded THAT toy, and there was a complete brawl…I would separate the two, the toy gets put on a shelf. One dog is going outside in the back yard to chill, the other out the front door to chill. I am sorry…it really depends on the situation. However, I would never beat, throw, kick, or harm them. I get rid of the toy (or buy 5 more). Now everyone has one.

Discipline:
Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. They know the drill. They know when it's breakfast, or supper. Fights, they get a time out. either in another room or outside. Or, a good walk. They hate when I am not happy with them. The dog in question, will slowly come out of the bedroom begging around the corner to join all of us on the couch. All I have to do is give him "the eye" and either they are not ready and go back into the room, or they slink up and give you kisses because they are sorry and want to be with everyone on the couch.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Anywhere in the entire house.

All I have to do is give him "the eye" and either they are not ready and go back into the room, or they slink up and give you kisses because they are sorry and want to be with everyone on the couch.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: Anywhere in the entire house.

Who is this dog for?

Our personal pet

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have researched the breed. We have always owned "herding dogs" – rough coat collie, Old English Sheepdogs. We are now in our 60's, and we don't feel we should have another 60+ lb dog as we need to be able to pick a dog up if necessary. We like their loyalty and playfulness and are accustomed to having dogs groomed and caring for longer haired breeds. We want a snuggle bunny. We also understand that a new dog may need additional house training when they go into a new home

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a large fenced yard with a "handicap dog ramp" off our deck – which is only about 12" off ground level. We live in the country but there are subdivisions near us and lots of sidewalks. We like playing in the yard with our dogs, going for walks and taking them with us in the car to the pet store and home improvement store. We need a dog that walks well on a leash

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We never yell at a dog. We patiently correct the dog and seek to reward it when they exhibit good behavior

Discipline:
A stern voice then re-directing the dog to acceptable activities, rewarding good behavior to re-enforce it for the future.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home and yard
