 A friend of mine had 2 Corgi's and they were so wonderful when I went to their house. Once I met them, I started researching them on the internet.

 We love Corgis. We currently have a small, female cardigan corgi and have owned five others previously. Most of them were Pembrokes. Our one-year-old would love to have a sister and playmate.

Who is this dog for?

 He/She would be for us. We recently lost our two beagles and now have a wonderful home to rescue more family members. We had our last two for 13 years and 14 years respectively and both were rescues.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We would love to have another family member to fill our home. We have never had a Corgi before but with my husband being English we are very familiar with the breed having lived in the UK. We love their curiosity, spunk, energy and sense of humor. We also love that they equally can be couch potatoes at times and love to cuddle. Our two previous breeds were a high strung energetic English Pointer and more recently Beagles.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We would love to walk, walk, walk and explore. That's my favorite. In the past one of our beagles was not dog friendly (other than our other beagle) which meant we couldn't do much socialization. When they were younger, we did the dog park but had to be careful…in all cases, we loved to travel with them. My female beagle was really smart and loved to play games and puzzles and loved children so enjoyed training sessions very much. Our boy beagle was more into napping and walks, disliked children, and was not very quick to pick up tricks, though we tried. Basically, it really depends upon the temperment of the Corgi.

Dogs want to please and more often than not, negative behaviors are the response to the environment and usually something that we are doing wrong.

 Lots and lots of small treats. I have also had some success in the past with clicker training, though utlimately, it has always been a question of time and a relationship. I also believe that discipline should be based more on positive training than negative responses. It can be toughest when they do something that endangers the dog, like running out if the door is open.  As teachers, our hours are fixed, 8 till about 1 most days, sometimes as late as 2:30pm. This is only weekdays of course. Lately, we have often been working from home which has been awesome for a dog. Our last beagle enjoyed that very much till he passed.

 In the kitchen out of their bowl.

 In our master bed. We expressly have a king size bed for this purpose.

Play & exercise:
 I usually give a short am walk prior to work, and then we walk for a good hour or longer after we get home with a last short walk prior to bed.

 It is an electric inground fence. Until we could have the time to train the Corgi to respond to the electric fence, usually in the spring/summer, we would never allow them to run around the yard without a leash. It is too dangerous. Also in ground fences work very well but require careful training with the dog. Even then, we only use the inground fence when we are outside with the dog in the backyard. Our first priority is always to keep them safe and a leash outdoors or a fenced dog park is the safest thing.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love the breed of it. I fell in love with the breed when I went to my cousin house and their neighbor had a red coat Pembrook corgi. I love that it is a small dog that comes with a big personality. Highly energetic dog that will help my mom keep up with her active lifestyle at home. Most of all being able to provide a loving home to such a majestic animal.

 Everyday after my workout I will make sure I take my adopted corgi outside for a walk around the subdivision. My subdivision is very large. Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We recently lost our Corgi , who was such a joy for us. We have owned many dogs over the years ,all of them special, but our Corgi was even more special. His ability to communicate with us was amazing. He knew what we were saying a nd doing and what we expected of him. He also knew how to communicate his needs and wants.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We live in the country allowing a dog room to run. I also walk our dog four times a day. We spend time each day, depending on the weather, playing with the dog outdoors. With grand children and great grand children there are often kids around who like to play with the pet. We also spend time each winter in Florida. Our RV park has has lots of places to walk plus has a dog park with lots of equipment for playing and exercising.
