Who is this dog for?

will be a full member of our family. We are sitting for a Pembroke Corgi now for 4-5 months and Dale is part of our family!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have "learned by doing." We are caring for Dale the Corgi for a friend and he's been tremendous. While caring for Dale, we have researched Corgis and have found that Dale fits into what we have found. He is loving, kind, caring, sweet, playful, and a general joy to be around.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We play with Dale inside and out. He takes long walks with us at least twice a day. We also play with the tennis ball, Though he doesn't bring the ball back, we don't really care and go to him to get the ball and throw it again. Dale enjoys playing with other dogs, though seems particular on the breeds he consistently barks at! Dale loves to run with us outside, plays with several toys inside, enjoys walking in the large park right across the street, likes running around the basketball court with a dog ball, loves visiting other dogs for the 7am "secret neighborhood dog club" on the closed tennis courts, and loves nothing more than nuzzling with our family members when he turns over to have his tummy rubbed often. Dale follows us around for constant attention, when we aren't doing the same to him!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With patience and love. Dale had one accident early on and it wasn't a big deal. We didn't bring it up with him, cleaned up, and loved him some more.

Discipline:
Though there hasn't been a lot of disciplining here with Dale, who we are caring for until January. We are gentle, and use positive reinforcement, as suggested by our trainer friends and dog friends.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke would spend time in our home, and outside with us around three or more times a day to walk, run, and play.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes! All four of us.

Where would dog eat?
Eat next to us in our dining room. Our dog-sitting friend Dale, eats within a few feet of our dinner table when we eat and then he chills/relaxes when he is done as he eats much faster than we do!

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever the Corgi feels most comfortable. Our adopted Corgi will have the free run of our home like Dale does now until he leaves in January. Dale sleeps in several places. Sometimes he wants to be in my daughter's bedroom. Sometimes he wants to sleep on the floor next to our bed. Other times, he wants to sleep on one of our couches downstairs.

Play & exercise:
Right now, our Corgi is out three times a day for an hour. We take him out to walk, play and do those dog things that dogs do, sniff other dogs, run in the park, off -leash in the closed tennis courts and basketball courts. etc…. We are also more than willing to fence in our larger backyard if necessary.

How will you exercise your dog?

All of us actually! Ruby wants to be the one who bonds with the dog though she knows its up to the dog! Dale, the Corgi who we are sitting for four months, has chosen me to bond with. He follows me around and it’s amazing. though all of us are into caring for a Corgi!

Who is this dog for?

Anna Guzman

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I fell in love with corgis when I started working at a dog daycare (present employer Pups Pet Club) I have worked with corgis in a group setting and solo by pet sitting through my work. I love their spunky manners and playfulness. However, I also know that as a herding breed they can have a dominant streak that requires firm leadership on my part. The breed needs the balance of love and structure.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks to beach, walks to park, daycare 2-3 times a week, and sometimes lazy days.

Who is this dog for?

The two applicants. Two people in their early 30's

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have been considering adopting for a long time and believe now is the right time. We are particularly interested in a PWC because two of our good friends already have a PWC and we have had the pleasure of looking after him when our friends are away. We can't wait to have a PWC join our family as well.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would frequently walk around the neighborhood, in parks, and visit dog parks. We would occasionally take longer walks/hikes in state parks. If the PWC enjoys it, there would also be a daily jog. There would be lots of time to play and interact throughout the day and time for training and mental stimulation built in.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
My Ph.D. is in psychology so fortunately, I am well versed in behavioral psychology methods of training. Some examples of ways I would handle a mistake are timeouts, using a stern voice to communicate displeasure, removing toys, and not providing attention in response to the behavior.

Discipline:
Physical discipline (e.g., hitting) is off the table for me. Positive and negative reinforcement techniques are far more effective than punishment and thus, I would lean on those.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home or with us out on various trips.

Who is this dog for?

Our family: Michael, Jennifer, and three sons (19, 14, 13)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our oldest son introduced us to Corgis. He loves his friend's two Corgis – their personalities/temperament and physical characteristics. We (the rest of the family) love our rescue Banjo (Boston terrier mix) and would prefer to adopt than to buy another dog. We believe Banjo would do well with a Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We will walk and play with our Corgi daily. Banjo loves to walk (leashed) on the trail in our neighborhood, and we would love to add a Corgi to our walking routine. We have a fenced backyard, but (as we do with Banjo) we will only let our Corgi out to potty or to play with us when we're outside. Northwest Arkansas is a great area to enjoy the outdoors, and we love walking Banjo in local parks. We think a Corgi would fit in well with our family.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We will encourage our Corgi with positive reinforcement. If our Corgi chews/destroys something, we will take it away and remember not to leave it or things like it in places the Corgi may find and take them. We will offer toys/bones as an alternative to satisfy the need. We will also give our Corgi affection frequently.

Discipline:
We will remove temptations (shoes, etc..) and tell the Corgi "No". We will offer an alternative. We will not hit/spank.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our Corgi will spend most of his/her time inside with the family. I (Jennifer) work from home, and our Boston terrier (Banjo) is usually in my home office or asleep on his bed while I work. We walk daily, and when the weekend weather is good, we often go to local parks.

Who is this dog for?

Our family – myself, my husband Chris (stay at home dad) and our three boys, Leo (10), Cyrus (8), and Lincoln (3). Our beloved beagle, Hera, passed away and we are hoping for the perfect next member of our family. We just moved to Evanston and close on our new house in mid-November – our new address will be 806 Lincoln Street, Evanston, IL 60201.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are looking for an active, curious, energetic medium sized dog with a good natured personality who is good with kids and other dogs. We have done enough research on corgis to believe they fit the bill. They are also exceptionally cute and we have met quite a few of them on our walks around Evanston and loved every one we've met!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have always walked our dogs daily and, additionally, will have a large fenced yard in our new house to allow a dog outside multiple times per day. We also intend to play fetch, tug of war, and other games. With three active boys, all of whom are dog lovers, this dog will get no lack of attention.
