Who is this dog for?

For both of us but primarily as a companion animal for me, Alexa.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My first dog with my family was a Pembroke! I love their stubborn attitudes and quirky mannerisms. Their herding mentality cracks me up – my Pembroke would herd kleenex if they were left on the coffee table. She'd build a small stash by her water bowl. Never ate them, but loved collecting them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks! Playing in the snow! Lots of fun toys for indoor playtime and toys for going to the park!
Swimming in a clean lake or pool if they enjoy swimming.
Lots of cuddling of course!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Redirection. Giving them something else to focus on instead of continuing the behavior. Taking them to a different room if they won't redirect and continuing that pattern until they understand the behavior isn't good.

Discipline:
Firm voice and time-out.
Like kids, it works to send your misbehaving fur-child to their kennel or bed to calm down. A firm "no" and reward for desired behavior works wonders.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
no yelling whatsoever since they cannot understand english!
repeatedly say "no" in a firm tone each time the mistake is made, for example if pee inside the house, then repeat "no" to them and then take them outside and repeat "yes" so hopefully they can learn to distinguish where to pee.

Discipline:
no hitting.
firm vocal tone. yelling never helps anything.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
in the living room on the main floor of the home

Why do you want a Pembroke?
PWC are very active which we like for our family and are highly intelligent. We rescued a pwc before but she was very timid, she was abused and came from a puppy mill. Although her behavior wasn't a "typical" corgi, we still adored her and have experience with the breed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking, easy/leveled hikes, playing with her, loving her, ect.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Having accidents inside? I would take her outside, when she goes to the bathroom I would tell her how good of a job she did and give her a treat. If she is chewing shoes, I would tell her no and move the shoes.

Discipline:
I personally do not discipline the dog. I show them rewards for the good behavior. I will tell them no though.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside with us, if she's like a normal dog, she would follow us around the house. Sleep in one o our rooms.

Who is this dog for?

Jim and Jessie and our 3 year old Corgi named Leah.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are so in love with our 3-year-old Corgi. We are seeing Corgi's all over town now and know that they can be handful. We want to make sure that we can "save" any Corgi that could be put in a shelter, because the owners didn't understand what they were taking on. Most people just think they are cute but don't understand they are a smaller dog with a big dog personality. They make you earn their love on their time. I love that about the breed, so smart and sassy. Yet, when they let you cuddle them for 10 seconds it's like you won a gold medal.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We walk our puppies every day for at least 15 minutes. It used to be longer, but our oldest pup can't make it any more than that these last few weeks. We just got a stroller for the Pomeranian, so we can go longer. Grandma and Grandpa live 7 minutes walking away, so we love to visit them. We must play tug- a-war and ball every day. We also must visit our favorite neighbor at least 3 times a week. However, mom and dad must stay outside why she opens the screen dog with her nose to get her treats from him. We walk the trails on the weekends.
Jim and I both work from home so this makes for easy play, affection, food, and potty breaks.

People at home during the day?
We both work from home. My parents live 8 houses down and stop by at least once a day. We also have our 23 year-old daughter living with us for the next year. ( grad school). We also have a 16 year old who is home Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and the weekends. (hybrid school because of COVID) We have two 19 year old boys who come home from college over breaks and the summer.

Where would dog eat?
We have a laundry room that we slide the door to separate the dogs when they eat.

Where would dog sleep:
We have an hour of bed time with the Corgi in our bed, then put her to bed in her own kennel in my husband's office. If not, she spends all night chasing cats and is so tired the next day.
As my daughter said, " You have a ramp to your bed for a dog that doesn't even sleep with you." Yes, we do and wouldn't have it any other way.

Play & exercise:
We will walk her every day. My husband and I are both outside people. We play ball every day in the backyard. I love to work in the garden and love the puppies out there with me. Our town has amazing trails so we usually hit a trail Saturday morning.

If it is raining then we play ball in the basement. Our Corgi loves the carpet to get a good grip and chase the ball.

Who is this dog for?

For both me and Patrick

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Me and my boyfriend love the breed and have for a while. Not only are they very cute no matter the age we love the personality that goes along with them. I love that they are herding dogs and when they don’t have a specific animal to herd I enjoy challenging them with things that can help them retain that skill. I enjoy that they are the true definition of small and mighty. Most of all though I love how affectionate they are.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
The biggest activity would be out running with them. Recently online I saw a herding ball that worked for a cattle dog that I would want to try with the corgi. I would take them swimming and anywhere I could.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the mistake. Currently I have a cat and typically when she makes a mistake I just yell her name and she typically gets the idea that I’m upset. I think this also depends on what the dog will react to since it is a rescued dog.

Discipline:
This also depends so for example if you have a puppy and it’s nipping I would try to redirect it. I would try to not excite the puppy too much. I would use a time out area.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:

Who is this dog for?

Myself and my girlfriend.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I personally love this breed and have dreamed of owning my own little nugget ever since I've seen my first one on TV. I love how cuddly they can be and how smart they are. I love their teachability of tricks and how disciplined they can be. Meeting a few people that own Corgis only reaffirmed my love and affection for them. I know that they need their exercise and can also be a bit bitey when young. I've looked into some ins-and outs and spoke with some owners about them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take him or her on some long walks around neighborhood, take them to dog park by my apartment and play fetch, and I'd play tug-of-war with them at home with plenty of rope toys.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would calmly go over to them and tell them no in a heavy tone. I would designate a timeout spot for them and make sure that they knew what they did was bad.

Discipline:
A tap on the butt with a newspaper, or picking them up and telling them no. I would learn more ways through classes though.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my room or living-room hanging out with me on the couch watching the outside through the window or playing some games with me with his toys.

People at home during the day?
There's usually someone home at any hour of the day so they wouldn't be lonely. And at most they'd be left alone for an hour tops.

Where would dog eat?

Who is this dog for?

For myself. I just lost my Welsh Corgi Penny back on May 5th and have now started to consider looking into possibly adopting another Corgi and The Daily Corgi lead me to your site.

Thank you,
Zak

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My previous pup was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that I had since a baby. Her name was Penny. She was my everything and I miss her daily.

I have extensive experience with the corgi breed. Penny and I spent the last 2 years of her life living with degenerative myelopathy. Truly a heartbreaking disease, but I would have done anything for her. We coped with a wheel chair. Along with me helping her express herself to fully urinate. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat as I love this breed of pup deep down in my soul.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Frequent visits to our local dog park. About 3-4 times a week. Almost everyday some form of a short walk. Inside playing and stimulation to keep this smart breed happy. Long car rides were Penny and ours favorite past times too.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
There are many forms of mistakes. My previous pup Penny liked to chew on practically everything. Keeping her away from the problem areas to start with a room with only her toys was how I tried to prevent it. Along with verbal commands of no when caught in the act.

Mistakes of going to the bathroom in the house I had pee and poop mats that I would take outside with me and Penny and have her smell the pad while outside then the ask her to go potty on the grass.

Discipline:
Verbal commands with treat rewards on correct commands. Verbal praise or reprimand to become familiar with words.

Lease commands for walking or staying without moving while staying still.

Dog kennel training for only a short time while Penny was a pup.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside free roaming in my house at the safety or where the dog is in their obedience training phase.
