Who is this dog for?

Both Saraya & Trae

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I’ve fallen in love with our corgi, and our corgi loves other dogs especially ones around his size, that can interact with him. I love that they are active and loud and just funny in general.

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends. What I usually do is ignore my dog currently if he’s biting, which ultimately got rid of that issue. If they pee in the house make a mess we correct it by taking him outside immediately and telling him no. He’s fully house trained and very obedient

Discipline:
I answered it in the other box! Sorry!

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Everywhere we are. Most times it’s in the yard or playing in the house with us

Who is this dog for?

My husband and I

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My husband and I have always had a soft spot for corgis and their fluffy buns! We have a couple close friends with corgis and have loved how goofy, smart, friendly, and affectionate they are. Though we haven't individually owned our own dogs, we both grew up with dachshunds, we've lived with roommates' dogs in college, and dog-sit for friends and family members when they're out of town. We are currently looking to adopt a corgi and a dachshund so they will have a buddy to play with. Having significant experience with dachshunds, we feel very prepared to take on the mischief, stubbornness, activity level, and back/spine safety considerations that Corgis exhibit as well. We have been reading up about the breed on various corgi rescue/club websites and feel it has been helpful for enhancing our knowledge of the breed. We are willing to drive to pick up the dog, meet someone halfway, whatever might work best for transportation. We are at a great time in our lives where we're married, have a house, great jobs, and a strong family and friend support system, so we are able to dedicate the time, energy, patience, and tons of love required to bring a new pet into our home.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
All sorts! We are pretty active people and like to go for walks around the neighborhood, hiking, gardening in the back yard, etc. I imagine there will be some doggy play dates with our friends' and families' dogs in our future as well once our pups get acclimated. We also live right behind a park and are about 10min away from a dog park. We do also like spending time inside and snuggling up with blankets and a good movie, so a couch potato would fit right in as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Quick/timely correction, redirection, work to understand root cause of the behavior (bored? anxious?), and ensure consistency with our expectations and training approach.

Discipline:
Our approach is centered around positive reinforcement. Some strategies we employ with our cats and family pets include getting their attention with a stern voice or loud clap, redirect to something else that IS acceptable (provide a toy to chew on, blankets to dig into, grass to potty on, etc.), and praise them a lot when they do a good job and/or resist the negative behavior so they know what we are looking for going forward. We absolutely don't want to scare them or create ongoing anxiety that might shift to resentment and retaliation or fear-based behaviors. Figuring out what they're motivated by is really important to establishing the right incentives for good behavior. Our doxies growing up were all food motivated (myself included!), so we used small treats, lots of love, and patience to help with their training.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Likely free to roam around the house with me during the day. We will also have a dedicated space for the dogs with beds, toys, water, food, etc. for when we leave the house.

Who is this dog for?

It’s for me

Why do you want a Pembroke?
In 2019 my girlfriend bought me a female Corgi puppy I raised And took care of on my own. Because of COVID, she moved out and took the dog. I had the dog for roughly 1 year. Broke my heart and I really enjoyed the breed. I played soccer and threw a tennis ball with her all the time. She could bring the ball back and drop it. I also taught her to shake. I like that Corgi’s are quick, smart, and adorable when they smile.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I played soccer in college and high school. I go on walks all the time and would take my Corgi. I love throwing the tennis ball and playing fetch. Kicking the soccer ball is fun too. My parents live on lake Springfield and they have a German Shepherd and cats. Just a few things and places we would go.

Discipline:
I’ve used a clicker and treats. Very easy way to get the dogs attention and reinforce good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside. I have a fenced in yard but would never leave them out unattended.

Who is this dog for?

The Pembroke would be for the family and as a gift to our 11 year old daughter.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
The reason why we would like to adopt a corgi is that we watched a family on vacation interact with their corgi and we started to research the breed. We liked that they are considered good companions, good with other dogs, affectionate, good temperament and good with children. Our experience is limited as we have bigger dogs but feel a corgi would be the perfect compliment to our family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks around the neighbor and Forest Preserve.

Dog Parks on weekends

Playing with in the back yard and house.
