Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
For myself (Rachael) and family companion.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have loved the PWC breed since I was a kid. I grew up with herding dogs (border collie, Australian Shepherd & Sheltland Sheepdog). I love the intelligence of the Corgi, their personality (they are little humans with four legs), and their ability to please their humans. I adopted a tri-colored poem Rome in 2016 and he was a wonderful addition to my family. He unfortunately passed away to a brain tumor in 2019.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Our new Pembroke will be for myself, my daughter and my son.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We are Pembroke Welch Corgi lovers! I lost my dear Pem Snaffle to cancer. She was my heart dog and went literally everywhere with me. She was incredibly loyal to me and to my babies when they were born. She was always by their sides and kept an eye on them at all times to keep them safe. The loyalty, kindness, playfulness and intelligence is what draws me to the breed not to mention cuteness overload! My mom has had several rescue Corgi's over the years until their golden years too so we are a family that loves and understands the nature and needs of a Pem.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
What wouldn't we do with our Pembroke!? 🙂 We are an active family and love to be outside and busy. We will go on walks, car rides, parks, hikes, my mom's horse farm and my son's football games. We will do lots of good old fun playing at home too. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If my Pembroke makes a mistake, I will use gentle and consistent reminders of our expectations.
Discipline: |
In my experience, they are very intelligent and sensitive dogs and there is absolutely NO need for shouting or physical reprimands. Redirecting and rewarding the desired action or response is the method I've used in the past with great success with my previous Pembroke. Often it took only a look and a soft word to let her know she made a mistake. Consistency, clear expectations and kindness are the methods that I will use with any training (including my kids LOL)!
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
My Pembroke will spend most of her time at home with us. I will use a crate to train or for comfort if that is what she is used to, however, my preference and in the past with our Corgi- is that we not crate our dog either during a time that we are out or at night. I will have a super soft bed and tons of toys to keep her content.

People at home during the day? |
My kids are e-learning at this time at home full time and I'm working full time from home now as well. During normal non-COVID times, my kids would be at school during the day and I work from home most days. When I do go into the office, I have flexible hours so will adjust them around my schedule for the day. We're all home all weekend and are always doing fun things and activities that our new corgi would join us.
Where would dog eat? |
My corgi would eat in the kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
My corgi would sleep wherever she chooses. I would love it if she slept upstairs in one of our rooms like my other Corgi did, but I will have beds in the family room and upstairs in my room if she prefers. My other corgi would want to start sleeping on the bed with me but would tend to get hot and jump down during the night to sleep on the carpeted floor.
Play & exercise: |
Our new corgi will get a lot of play time and excercise. My kids can't wait to have another corgi and will be keeping her very busy! She will be going on lots of walks and supervised off leash play time to throw the ball and run around with toys. If she is at all like my previous corgi, they are so fiercely loyal and obedient, I would almost trip on her because she was always by my side. She would have been offended by my brining out a leash. LOL We will be doing lots of fun stuff and she will go everywhere with us.
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Description of yard: |
I have a nice yard that is enclosed on 3 sids with a fence. It's open on the sides of the house. There is a porch/patio off the back. It's all grass and we don't have a swimming pool. We would never and have never just let our dogs out to run free in the yard. We spend time in the yard with our dog or will be doing potty walks on a leash. If our new dog doesn't have off leash experience then we will only be outside with a leash. Our hope is that we can be in the backyard with our corgi and she will run around with us and play and not have the desire to wander off. Our previous corgi would never have left our yard or 2 feet from one of us for that matter. They are always wanting to be close as they feel a sense of responsibility to their family in my experience.

My children have been raised with horses, dogs and cats their whole lives. They are both very experienced, gentle and loving towards animals. They both absolutely love animals and are both so happy I decided to finally give in and replace the empty place in my heart that our last Corgi left when she passed.

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Love the look of Pembroke Welsh Corgis. We need a dog who can get along with cats and the Pembroke welsh corgi was one breed that was recommended. A family friend had a Corgi and cat and they got along well and he was very friendly towards everyone he’s met.

Play fetch, go on walks, and hangout and cuddle on the couch while we watch tv. Large house and basement for him to play, especially during winter times when it’s too cold for him to be outside for an extended period.

Positive reinforcement has been very effective for the dog in the past. Reward him for good behavior. Usually bad behavior has a root cause, usually not enough attention was given to the dog, so changes can be made if the occasion calls for it.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Myself | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
They are lovable loyal companions. I love the energy level and affection from pembrokes. I wanted the heart of a large dog in a smaller body.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Running/ walks, swimming, hiking, dog parks, open fields, and running along with a bike. I would attach the corgi through a harness to an arm that branches off the side of my bike seat, then have another leash to direct the corgi which way I'm going. with careful training, this will be a great running exercise.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |

Vet contact info: |
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I would correct by letting them know but not yelling, saying words like "no" or when it's a slight mistake "oops". using positive reinforcement when good and giving treats. I am an alpha but gentle, anger does not work in any relationship, especially with dogs. Build trust and a bond.
Discipline: |
Telling no, putting in a crate if necessary for a limited amount of time as a "time out".
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
They will have open access to the entire, large apartment. The apartment will be ready for them and will be puppy proof if needed.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Me | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I want to adopt a Corgi cause I haven't been feeling too well and I've been wanting a Corgi for a while because I heard they are good at helping and being there for people and they're playful so they can help cheer me up. I have had expericenes with other dogs and I love affectionate dogs and know how affectionate Corgis are, so that would be nice considering I've been dealing with bad emotions lately and I feel like a dog would be a nice way to help me be less sad. I have never been with a Corgi. I have done a lot of research on them as they have been my favorites for years.

I would take it on walks, play outside, play with it inside, spoil the dog,

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Lindsay Hayes and David Woolman
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I currently have a corgi and she is my best friend. I had done a lot of research before getting her and thought a corgi would perfectly match my lifestyle. Sometimes we snuggle all day and other days we have fun going for walks or visiting her dog "cousins". I have talked to other corgi owners and have realized that corgis are a very special breed. It seems like once you have had one corgi, you will always have one!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I would do what I already do with my current corgi. She of course has to stay home sometimes, but I otherwise try to include her in everything I do. If I'm going to a dog friendly store like Lowe's, she comes with and loves the attention. She also comes with to visit my mom who has two small dogs and my sister who has a golden retriever. I live near a walking trail along the Wisconsin River so we go for walks multiple times a week. We also live near a dog park and have made many friends there.
My dog is also my child since I have none and don't plan on having any. Some people have accused her of being TOO spoiled, as if that were even possible. I am aware that some rescue dogs need to be socialized carefully. My mom's cocker spaniel is a puppy mill mom rescue so I have experience with scared and untrusting dogs. I have also seen how awesome it is to watch them get more comfortable and learn what it's like to be loved! |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
From what I've learned in obedience classes, it is important to have an immediate reaction if your dog does something. If you come home to chewed up shoes, it is too late and your dog has already forgotten. I also know that yelling at a dog for having an accident is not helpful. The only time I usually scold my corgi is if she is actively doing something wrong, like playing too rough with smaller dogs. A firm "No" usually does the trick.
Discipline: |
I generally don't discipline my dog other than telling her no. I don't think dogs learn anything from being punished other than to be afraid. Usually if I say "no" or her name in a deeper voice, my corgi knows she is in trouble and instantly comes and kisses my face to say sorry.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Any new corgi would spend most of their time with my current corgi. I keep my entire house "dog proof" so she can roam freely. If we're not at home we would most likely be visiting my family together.

House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
My fiance Dave works very part time outside of the house and otherwise is a landlord and sells things online from home, so he spends a lot of time at the house. I very rarely have to worry about my corgi being left home alone for too long.
Where would dog eat? |
My current corgi eats Fromm highlander beef. I always go off of the recommendations of my vet and I have 2 vets in my family as well. Any new corgi would likely be switched to this as long as they didn't have any dietary restrictions. I get my food from a specialty store so I would be able to meet any dietary needs.
Where would dog sleep: |
This depends on where they are most comfortable. I know some dogs are crate trained and feel more secure and comfortable in their crate and I would be willing to accommodate this. My current corgi sleeps in our bed with us and we can always make room for one more!
Play & exercise: |
We go for walks more than half of the week. The dog park is also a favorite and we live very close. During the winter when it's too cold we make more trips to places like Lowe's which allows dogs and do laps around the store. My house also has a "loop" that my current corgi likes to do zoomies around.
How will you exercise your dog? |

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
Yes. I got my current corgi when she was a puppy and she had to learn how to be gentle with my cat. Now they lay on the couch together and seem to actually enjoy each other's company. The corgi chases and plays with the cat but she has learned limits and how to be more gentle. Some things just come with time.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
For both of us. Jesse really wants a corgi specifically and I want any smaller breed.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Jesse loves corgis very much. One of my close friends has 2 corgis and she has informed me of the medical care costs and common breed traits. We both feel being full time pharmacists that we are comfortable with the medical care level. We are also open to learning more about them if the Lakeshore Corgis has any training materials to share.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We have a dog play park in our apartment building. They could go off leash inside the fence and play with other dogs. We also would do morning and evening walks. Mostly want a couch buddy and someone to cuddle.

In our apartment. Only the bedroom is carpeted, so if both work the same time, he/she could roam the kitchen and living room freely on the hard wood floor.
