Why do you want a Pembroke?	I have always loved them. They seem great for a mixture of apartment living and an active lifestyle. I have a few friends/coworkers with them and I've been talking with them a lot about habits and such.

Discipline:	Never physical hitting. If the dog wants to chew/claw the couch I would use that same affirmative tone and tell him no and remove his paws from the couch and put them back on the ground.

Why do you want a Pembroke?	I've admired their look, intelligence, and spunky personality since I first met one in 1994. I admire and respect working dogs in general because they'e so smart, avid, and easy to communicate with. I did do research on the breed when I first got interested in them but would, frankly, need to refresh that research now that I'm seriously thinking the time has come to get one.

Who is this dog for?	We would like to rescue a Pembroke corgi to be part of our family. We do not have children, we own one cat. We want to give a new pet a happy, well-balanced life that includes lots of exercise, play, adventures, mental stimulation, and nutrition.
Why do you want a Pembroke?	A friend of mine had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Scooter. He was active, smart, playful, and loyal. I loved the bond that my friend had with Scooter which developed from daily walks, playing, and adventures. Wherever my friend went-Scooter went. Other preferences:	I/we have been engaged with corgi rescue for almost 20 years, starting when we lived in Arkansas. We are on our fifth rescue corgi. We have rescued old corgis, corgi pups, corgis with terrible health problems, and healthy dogs. We have usually had two corgis at a time. We lost our female corgi due to heart disease about a month ago, which was devastating. We have a remaining lovely male corgi, Henry, who is at least 10 (we don't know exactly because we don't know how old he was when we adopted him). Henry is calm and loving, and he and our female dog were great friends. He seems fine being by himself, but he was much more active when he had a companion. We would obviously need to see if Henry and a second dog got along, but I thought I would at least send in an application and get on your radar screen. We would also be willing to consider fostering. Before we moved to Michigan I was the president of the board of the Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals. We are fortunate in that Paul is retired, so our dogs are walked multiple times a day and get lots of exercise. We enjoy hiking with our dogs as well.

Why do you want a Pembroke?	As above, we are on our sixth overall and fifth rescue corgi. We love the breed because they are intelligent, active, and have a lot of personality. We have lots of experience with the breed and love them dearly.

We try to use calmly spoken firm commands such as "off," "no," etc., as well as training both in a class and in our home. If it's a mistake like chewing something off-limits, we redirect to an appropriate toy. If it's a bathroom mistake, we try to catch it quickly, say no, and take the dog outside.

We have used obedience class and in-home training we well. We have crate-trained younger dogs, but our older dogs we have been able to house-train without crates.

Why do you want a Pembroke?	My 10 year old daughter and I have read a few library books on Corgis, but we have never met an adult Corgi. We did meet a puppy at a pet store and his personality was inquisitive, playful, and sweet. I'm not sure if that's the breed or just the puppy.
Activities planned with Pembroke:	I take my Beagle on walks, so of course, our Corgi would accompany us. We go camping with our Beagle and we have brought him along on a few road trips with a fancy hotel stay. Our Beagle is a great dog and we enjoy snuggling, grooming, training, and walking him. Depending on our Corgi's age and activity level, I would like to play catch with him like I used to do with my lab mix.

Who is this dog for?	This is for our family. We have two young men, Owen (19) and Jack (16). We had a Pembroke, Gus, for 10+ years we lost last summer, 2018. Everyone in our family shares in our pet care, but Owen has historically been the primary caregiver and was heartbroken when we lost Gus. Gus was a loyal friend to Owen, who is on the high-end of the autism spectrum. Owen spent last year away at college but going forward will be at home. We feel being able to add a Pembroke back into our family will make his transition back home complete.
Why do you want a Pembroke?	A Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the only kind of pet we have owned. We love how bright the bread is, and how they like to "herd" their people together. We have a large yard for exploring and are accustomed to taking our previous dog on at least two walks daily.
Activities planned with Pembroke:	Our Pembroke will be a regular part of our family. Beyond walks, playing, exploring and relaxing we'll ensure he/she receives the proper veterinary care. When we travel we'll bring our Pembroke with us whenever possible. When it isn't possible he/she will stay with friends who are already experienced pet owners. We didn't do formal training with our previous pet, but we did train him to go potty outside, sit and laydown on command. We are willing to do formal training with a rescue.

When he/she misbehaves we would try to catch him/her in the act and give a firm "no" and then work to give a different option. For example if chewing on a shoe, we'd say no, take it away and then give an actual chew toy.

Why do you want a Pembroke?	I got my first dog in college. Yogi Bear, he was a pembroke I found at a rescue farm when he was 8 weeks old. He was my side kick, literally the perfect dog. He was my best friend. He passed away unexpectedly January of this year from kidney failure. I’m still heartbroken. I have looked into breeder but there are so many dogs who need homes I don’t think it’s right to purchase a puppy for $2000, not saying I wouldn’t for the breed, but I wanted to check other venues first.
