 Us!! We are a couple in Boone, Iowa looking for a puppy friend for our 4 year old red healer corgi mix from the Animal Rescue of Carroll. We do have my sisters cat currently living with us but she keeps to herself most of the time!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have some friends with corgis and they are the sweetest dogs I've ever met. Our dog milo is part corgi and we want him to have a friend!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Go for walks, hikes, trips to my parents acreage, and our dog milo loves to play tug of war!! My parents dogs and milo have had many playdates with our friends corgis and were in love!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Depends on the mistake. We have our penny bottle that we shake when our current dog is doing something wrong. I have house trained our current dog by knowing the body language when he needs to use the restroom and taking him outside quickly when you see him needing to.

 We have a bottle of pennys that we shake when Milo is doing something he isn't supposed to. We learned it in a dog training book.

 Every corgi I’ve met has been really athletic, spunky with a lot of personality. I love how much personality they have! However, I really need a mid to small sized dog. Who is this dog for?

 Me. My corgi mix recently passed away and I would like to rescue/adopt another corgi (or corgi mix). I have lots of experience in dog ownership and my last dog also worked as a trained therapy dog for 4 years. I'm totally okay with adopting an older dog. However, I would prefer to adopt a male dog because there are a few alpha female dogs in my extended family and I want to make sure everyone gets along. I've found that male dogs work best with them. Thank you for considering me.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My last dog was a corgi mix. I love the friendliness and size of the corgi. I love their happy nature but that they can also be a little bit stubborn. I've found that they are wonderfully loyal and loving. My past corgi loved to herd and would 'herd' my cat around the house daily. (Which was good for the cat because he's lazy…) I'm a librarian, so I tend to over research things. I've read about corgis a lot over the years while I had one and as I mentioned prior, I've also worked as a a trained therapy team with my past dog and I have lots of experience with dog behavior and advanced training. I can provide references if needed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 My dogs tend to go everywhere with me. I'm big on socializing my pets. So my dog would go with me to family events and socialize with other dogs. I would like to train my future dogs to also be trained therapy dogs if it was a fit for the personality.

We would take lots of regular walks and I generally have lots of toys and things for stimulation at home. Depending on the age of the dog, I might even look into agility training with a future dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I use positive reinforcement and strong voice commands with my training. I believe tone of voice is important but I don't yell or scream at my dogs. I'll also use aversion training as well.

Discipline:
 I mostly use positive obedience training with my dogs with some aversion techniques. I use a strong 'no', 'leave it' and 'down' command with my dogs. I've done advanced obedience training through my pet therapy work and we mostly focus on strong commands, aversion and positive reinforcement training.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 My dog would spend most of it's time at home when I'm at work. I let my dog roam free once they are comfortable and used to the house, but I start with crate/small space training until they are comfortable in the new environment. If I have plans after work or a long day ahead of me, I take my pets to my parent's house (they are both retired). That way they get plenty of attention and activity playing with my parent's dog.
