Who is this dog for?

The dog would be for just the 2 of us.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our boy past away in December. He was a Corgi/Retriever mix but his personality was all Corgi. We know he can not be duplicated, but we feeling going with the Corgi breed will get us closer to the disposition that worked so well for us.
We would rather rescue just because there are so many dogs that need a home. But we would not turn down a puppy if someone just had a litter.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Dog park, lots of walks and car rides, and of course snuggles.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I guess it depends on what it was. If it is destructive then I know we are not giving the dog enough exercise or we need to find alternative ways to keep their mind busy. If it is peeing in the house then we need to figure out if more training needs to be done or if it is more of an anxiety issue. You just keep working at it.

Discipline:
I am not one for "military" style discipline. I have found an quick loud noise and a low toned "no" pretty much stopped any naughty behavior that was happening. Anything that would happen when I may not be there to see it was usually solved with a low tone "what did you do". I know that just because this worked on our last dog does not mean that it will work on the next. But training, exercise, and a "job" for the dog can take care of a great deal of issues.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Once we built trust with the dog, it would have the whole house to roam. I would rather not kennel a dog all day when we are at work. When we are not at work we are big on taking our dog every where we go if they are allowed. I hate it if I come home from work and then leave right away. It just isn't fair to the dog.

House dog

People at home during the day?
There is no one home during the day, but our last dog was elderly so I was used to coming home on lunch to take him for a walk. It killed me to leave again, but he needed a break during the day.

Where would dog eat?
We have an eat in kitchen. That is where we kept the food and water bowls.

Where would dog sleep:
Things would be the same as with the last dog. There was a dog bed in our room next to my side of the bed, another dog bed in the living room, one in the car, one in the garage, and one in the basement. Plus our bed, the couch, chairs. Basically my dog could sleep where ever they wanted. I'm a sucker.

Play & exercise:
I am used to walks in the morning before work, the lunch walk, and a walk when I got home, plus another one after dinner and sometimes a quick one before bed. We did that with our last dog rain or shine, snow or ice. He needed his exercise even when we got older. Plus we went to the dog park often.
For the new dog we will be putting up a fence so we can use the back yard more than we could before.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Living arrangements:

Lease allow dogs:

Landlord permission:

Restrictive covenants?
Not applicable

Breed/size restrictions?
No

Description of yard:

We have a ranch house. We have a corner lot so the backyard is a little small, but the perfect size for a corgi. We will be putting in a fence within the next few weeks to prepare for a new doggie addition to our house. Across the street is a community walk along the river. We have many dog owners in our neighborhood. So there is a lot of opportunities to socialize.

Household members:
{Describe all the people who live in your home, include names, ages and interests. For example, Mary Smith, 29, Enjoys cooking, dog training, gardening and running.:75}

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
We both are responsible

Willing to train children?
There are no children in our home and we will not be having children other then 4 legged furry kids.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

{Please list and describe all of the pets that currently live in your home, including the name, type, age, sex and whether it is neutered. For example, Lenny, komodo dragon, 3 years old, not neutered.:80}

Current pets dog friendly?

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
This would not be a problem. Our dog has passed, so there is no worry of introducing a new dog to the family. If we choose to get another dog in the future the current dog at the time would need to pick the dog. We would never just bring a dog home and force them to get along.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.

Who is this dog for?

Myself, wife, and our kids

Why do you want a Pembroke?
All of the research I've done leads me to Corgis as a breed that would fit well with my family. They are energetic enough to be around young kids and well mannered, which are important factors.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Plenty of playing in our spacious back yard and walks down the road to the nearby park. There's also a dog park less than 10 minutes from my house.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Speak calmly yet sternly to let them know they made a mistake, then praise and reward them when they correct it.

Discipline:
Have them lie down for a few minutes to calm them and simulate a "time out"

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
While inside the Corgi would likely be free to roam the entire house, but hopefully they would choose to be near myself, my wife, or the kids

Who is this dog for?

Our family

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've always had dogs (German Shepards and Australian Shepherds) in my family growing up on a farm and my wife has had one dog as an adult (Husky). The rest of my family still has dogs and I've realized I've been missing having dogs in my life. I like herding dogs and have come to really enjoy corgis and their intelligence and overall well balanced demeanor as a dog from the ones I've met through friends and friends of my family and on the street even. I know corgis require a good amount of attention and affection and challenges to keep them sharp and happy.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
He or she would go on regular walks and to the local dog park to play and socialize. We'd also go camping or on other trips to get out of the city and have some fun and new experiences.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Use it as a teaching opportunity. Reinforce the good behavior to try and break him/her from any bad habits.

Discipline:
A stern voice to get attention and treats and affection to reinforce positive behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We would start with some kennel training but eventually would let them roam freely around the house.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Most days there will be someone at home during the days. My wife and my schedules allow for coverage most days. I have flexibility with my work and live close to home for mid day walks.

Where would dog eat?
We have a couple places in or near our kitchen that would work well.

Where would dog sleep:
We would likely get a dog bed but I could see him/her sleeping in our room or on our bed.

Play & exercise:
We have a dog park nearby that we can walk down to. Otherwise daily walks in the neighborhood before and after work and before bed. On the weekends we can always do something more interesting in other dog parks in the city, the beach, or getting outside the city to nature and wide open spaces to run and play.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have had several corgis and love the breed. They act like a big dog in a smaller body. They are funny and can go on a hike with you one day and lay on the couch the next. I love if they get dirty outside you can throw them in the kitchen sink to rinse off their feet. They are easy travelers in the car, low maintenance as far as grooming (minus shedding!). They are great company, fun to be around and often are very vocal!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, play at my parents farm, during the summer my dogs go out on my boat and paddle board with me. They go most places I go but we also love to play w toys at home in the living room.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
All dogs make mistakes. If they are caught in the act it is much easier to correct. I would tell them a firm no and reinforce a positive behavior.

Discipline:
Kennel training if needed or just keep the dog on a leash tied to me to prevent issues from arising. Then gradually give them more and more freedom.

Free in the house

Who is this dog for?

It would be for myself & my girlfriend who live in a spacious 2 bedroom apartment.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have done extensive research on the breed over several months including with your website. We have seen several articles, research & information related to how the breed behaves, reacts, copes & responds to interaction & home living. We both want to adopt a corgi because it is a perfect small dog that is playful & interactive. I personally use to own a dog that I prayed for when I was little & we adopted him from being left in the country alone. About 10-12 years ago around Easter he was murdered by a man who was delivering food product to our house in the country. I have wanted another dog for quite some time & I believe this summer would be a great opportunity to start this new adventure.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I want to be able to do all the things I used to do with my old dog. Play catch, go on walks, trails, hiking (small amounts), play tag, and cuddle/ relax on downtimes.
