Who is this dog for?

Myself and family pet

Why do you want a Pembroke?
This breed has a wonderful personality and very entertaining. To me, they're the most beautiful and unique dogs. Our Zoey was at first a foster puppy, we fell in love with and adopted her. (Zoey is Corgi mixed breed). We do not want to purchase thru a breeder since they're so many dogs that need homes, but I'd like a puppy if available. Yes, we have research and watch many videos. This breed is not very popular in Michigan.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Play, play, play!!! When we welcome a dog to our home, they become part of the family.

Depends on the "mistake", but I'd talk to them. I believe in focusing on giving positive reinforcement when they do something good vs. reacting to "mistakes".

Discipline:
Again, I focus on positive reinforcement and praise.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Free range, mostly in the main living areas. At night our dogs choose to sleep in the bedroom with us.

Who is this dog for?

Both of us. We are dog people with no children and are looking to welcome a new Pembroke into our home.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the breed. The size, personality, and energy level of a PWC is ideal to what we seek in a dog. I like a dog who can be comfortable on my lap (small enough), but has a big dog attitude. We have had a PWC before, and I cannot imagine having a dog who more perfectly suited us. His are big shoes to fill, but we are ready to fill the void left by his passing.
Our male PWC, Coda, was adopted as a rescue in 2011 after an owner surrender. He went hiking with us in the mountains of South Dakota and North Carolina, herded a basketball around our backyard, and loved his people. He was happy doing anything with us as long as we kept him active and engaged.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hiking our 20 acre property, herding a basketball around the yard (if the Corgi takes to the activity like our last PWC did), vacationing in hiking/mountain areas, walking on local trails.
Obedience training – both for overall obedience and for the mental stimulation that comes from performing tasks on command.

Correction. Previous obedience training utilized immediate use of "shame on you" phrase and gentle correction.

Description of yard:

We live in a small, single level home on 20 acres. There is a 2 acre yard, shallow pond, corn field, and woods. We do not have any fenced area currently, but may consider fencing a small area of the yard if our new pet would benefit from the enclosed space.

Who is this dog for?

It is for the both of us as a couple.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have done research on corgis and we’re in love with them. They’re the perfect size dog to take on road trips and to be able to take them out. They’re a good family dog and we hear that they are intelligent and listen to commands well.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, teaching new tricks, fetch, going to the park, snuggling, and being on the road here and there.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would sternly correct it and then put it in it’s cage like a toddler having time out.

Discipline:
No treats, stern voice, “no! Bad,” and kennel time.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
It would have a good amount of time outside playing with us then come inside and chill. A walk before the end of the day and then time for chill time for the rest of the day. When we’re out on the road for trips we will take more breaks so we can have potty breaks and fun outside time.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, Brandi doesn’t work too many hours within a week. Maybe two days out of the week it’ll have to be caged but even then when she gets home she’ll let it out and have some outside time.

Where would dog eat?
When we have our meals it’ll have their meals at the same time so we can get it on a set schedule. So their dishes would be visible by the dining area.

Where would dog sleep:
In it’s own cage with its bed in our room, so if it has to go potty we can hear it and get up.

Play & exercise:
We have a very decent sized yard that’s fenced and it can run around. We love spending time outdoors so we’ll definitely play fetch and teach it new things. Chase and run around with a good game of tag. About an hour maybe more we’ll be outdoors to have a good play time.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?

Who is this dog for?

Both

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My wife and I love Corgis. We wanted to get a pup when our kids were young but the kids wanted a Boston Terrier. : ) I like the breed because I am primarily of English heritage and they of course are the "Royal" breed. I also like the cattle dogs but the Corgi seems to have most of the cattle dog good traits without having some of the bad ones.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks and play something like fetch. The dog would also travel with us when appropriate.
