Who is this dog for?

Myself. My entire adult life I have had to watch my 3 kids and husband choose their dog friends. Mostly living on a dirt road in the country, these have been drop offs and strays. Every time I think we can get another dog, one of my daughters brings one home, or a stray we can't say no to shows up. I have always loved the Corgi breed and always have wanted one. They seem to go along with farms, horses and barns. Right now, we only have one other dog so it is my time to jump on this! I have considered purchasing from a breeder but frankly with all of the dogs in shelters I kind of feel guilty about doing that. If there is a corgi out there who needs his forever home, please consider me!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have read all about the breed. Why do I like them? I smile when I see one. They are tooo cute. They make me happy. Small with a big attitude.

Discipline:
Voice commands. A firm no usually suffices.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me. Either in the house or in the barn.

Who is this dog for?

It would be for my boyfriend Branden and I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We LOVE the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed so much! They are adorable and so friendly. We have met a few of them in our past and they have been nothing but friendly and affectionate. We have started our research on the breed and we think they will be a good fit with our current dog and our lifestyle. We are more than willing to give our dog love and affection.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would love to take him for walks, set up a little dog play area in our fenced backyard for our corgi and our dog Gabbie to just play and run around. We also take frequent trips up north in the summer and we would love to take them with us to run around and go in the lake and for boat rides.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would calmly tell them no and encourage when they do not make mistakes with love and treats. We would never yell at our Pembroke or Gabbie. Yelling does not solve the problem and only confuses the dog.

Discipline:
We use a firm tone with our dog. We never yell at her.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
He would be spending most of his time with our other dog Gabbie. Someone is almost always home with the dog. If there is ever a time where we can't be home or there is a time we will be away from the house for a long time then we will take Gabbie and our Pembroke to my boyfriend parents house. They have had dogs their entire life and the also have a dog of their own.

On the weekends someone is always home during the day. During the weekdays both of work but the dog will never be home alone with Gabbie for more than 4 hours. If we are will always have my boyfriends parents come over and let them out and feed them.

Where would dog eat?
He would have his own bowl. Currently Gabbie has her bowls set up in our dining room.

Where would dog sleep:
He could sleep wherever he would like to. If he wants to sleep in the bed with us or on a dog bed he can. We are not particular about that.

Play & exercise:
He will get plenty of play time and exercise with our dog Gabbie. He will go for plenty of walks, fetch in the backyard, play with tons of toys in the house.

Who is this dog for?

Our family. My husband and I and our 14 year old son and 7 year old cat.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have researched the breed and love the idea of it being a smart, good with kids. We are downsizing from our previous beloved German shepherd dog. We have decided that our next dog needs to come in a smaller package, hence investigating the big dog personality of a corgi in a smaller package.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks not vigorous jogs/power walks. A recent knee replacement is another reason a smaller dog not requiring vigorous walks is desirable. We attend sporting events for our son (soccer) and would like to be able to bring the dog along. Also we have a large yard with a backyard pool. We entertain frequently, so the perfect dog for us would enjoy lots of attention and being social.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?

Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the mistake…kennel at night or restrict area during the day if having accidents around home. Give alternative things to entertain if chewing or destroying property.

Discipline:
We have used different methods over the years. With our Shepherd, a disappointed tone or look would make her super sorry. We rescued a Great Pyrenees and he needed a shock collar (only used after a month with a professional trainer) to even pay attention to commands like coming when he was called.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
in our home

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Yes, I have researched. I like their size and I am familiar with herding dogs. Having an Australian Shepherd, I am also familiar with high energy dogs. I have always thought they were "cute," but was introduced to the breed more when a family member got a Corgi puppy. Rather than get a puppy, I am interested in rescuing/adopting – as both dogs I've had in my adult life have found their way to me in that manner.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
My Aussie is clicker trained, so I will try to redirect – I would love to work with another dog to become clicker trained. If it's an accident in the house, I do my best to catch it as it's happening and work to get the dog asap. I also use commands like "no." If it's jumping, I have been taught that it's best to ignore the behavior and not "give them space" or "give them attention" for it of any kind (even negative), because it's attention that they're seeking.

Discipline:
Commands (no), redirection, swat on the butt for attention (if needed)

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my home – I would prefer not to kennel a dog in my home.

3 days/week, yes. I work full time away from the home 4days/week – but there is another dog that roams the house in my absence.

Where would dog eat?
My current dog eats Nutro food for seniors.

Where would dog sleep:
Where they are comfortable – I allow my pets on furniture and in bed.

Play & exercise:
Daily walks, trips to the dog park, time to play in the yard. There is also another dog that they could play with.

Honesty anyone who fits the characteristics and I'll be game.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have done loads of research on the breed and feel in love with the fact that they are a "big dog in a little body". Growing up with my golden retriever, I have always been used to a bigger dog. But interacting with other corgis I know that the size will be perfect for what I am looking for. I love how smart they are and how they are they are active but will also be loving and be by your side when you want to sit down. I am very aware that corgis are a herding breed and will always need to be stimulated or they will find ways to keep themselves occupied. When doing my research on what breed of dogs were considered to be best for emotional support animals, corgis were always towards top. I have never owned a corgi or lived with one before but I have close family friends who have and when I mentioned that I was looking in that direction they have encouraged me strongly to pursue, saying it was the best family dog they have ever had. Probably my favorite thing about corgis are their personality. Their personalities are so big and unique that I can't help but feel that this is the breed for me.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would be taking lots of walks around campus and back home. I go home quite often (I am from Livonia) and my family has a one acre fenced in yard and very frequent company from my sister's precious Lab/Malamute mix. I also live with 2 other roommates who will frequently be home when I am not and are already down for the idea of having a dog live with us. There are also dog parks I will register for when the time comes so he/she can socialize with other dogs and have the freedom of a fenced yard here in Kalamazoo. Car rides are also very frequent in my daily life.

I would sure to handle the issue as quickly as possible to they are aware of which behavior they did that was wrong. NOT yelling, but instead making sure to teach the alternate behavior. I would also remove my attention by putting them in their crate for a bit.

Discipline:
teaching the correct behavior, not yelling or being too harsh, removing my attention, putting them in their crate for a bit.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They will spend most of their time in my apartment with my roommates and I, except for when we take them outside for walks, exercise, bathroom, etc. They would be sleeping in my room in a crate.

Who is this dog for?

Mostly Susan, but Tom helps with care and activities for all our animals.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis are happy, sassy dogs that are a great size for someone who is aging. Owners I've talked with all are advocates for the breed. And who can resist that wiggly butt?!
Much like schipperkes, corgis are independent and smart with some sass. I have researched the breed and would enjoy bonding with one of my own.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would go for walks and/or play fetch, if the dog is so inclined. We look to the dog to see what activities he/she enjoys. Before Vader went blind, we took an agility class. Jake preferred playing with neighbor dogs (in his younger days). Scotch enjoys fetch. They all enjoyed "tuggie."

Generally, no, but we have a wonderful neighbor who gives the animals potty breaks or lets in the horses if it is raining/too hot.

Where would dog eat?
We have had our other dogs eat on their own mats in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Our dogs have always slept on the main floor once they can be trusted out of the crate. This would depend on the dog and its personality.

Play & exercise:
We have a large fenced back yard that he/she will be able to use in the morning before work and any time while we're home. We will go for walks and also learn about being a good barn dog after we get home. He/she will have 30-45 min 3 mornings a week before work (and more time the other days). After work will be at least 4 hours.

Who is this dog for?

Retired couple who have always loved and cared for dogs for over 46 years. Recently lost our West Highland Terrier named Dublin. Live in a Del Webb Shorewood Glen over 55 community with many walking trails. Will provide love and security for all needs of the Corgi. We have a granddaughter 8 years old who has a Portuguese Water Dog and a son with a Shepard mix rescue. Both of our children have large yards and love and respect dogs. This would be our first rescue but due to our age a perfect fit. Many in our community have been satisfied with this choice.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Being brought up in Chicago yearly attended the dog show. That was where I was first introduced to the breed and was one of my favorite. Being Irish ☘️ and a bit of English family members were owners so I interacted frequently with breed. Always love look and temperament. I do know of one owner in my area. My first dog as a child was a Collie female named Lassie. My brother and uncle had Shelties. After marriage we had two Westie’s and German Shepard, Belgium Sheep dog, and Golden Retriever.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking, traveling by car. Both of our children live within 5 minutes of my location. We each board our dogs at our homes. So dogs are comfortable at each home.
