But if I didn’t see them potty, I just clean up the mess)

Us

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My husband and I love PWCs and would be thrilled to adopt one. We have done extensive research on the breed and are ready to take on the responsibility that a PWC requires. While neither of us has owned the breed, we have had family members with them. We love the energy that a PWC has and their readiness to learn tricks, not to mention how adorable they are. We are ready to be responsible and caring owners for a PWC.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My husband and I are both very active individuals. We would enjoy a corgi that we can take for walks and to the dog park.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Making mistakes, especially when they first arrive home, is to be expected. My husband and I would both understand the mistake our PWC has made and decide what corrective behavior would need to be made. In addition, we would reinforce that we still love our pet with pets, treats, and praise.

Discipline:
My husband and I would understand that mistakes happen. My husband and I would mostly use methods of positive and negative reinforcement. Using positive reinforcement such as praise, treats, and pets to reinforce positive behavior. We would use methods of negative reinforcement such as removing items that the PWC is either destroying or playing too rough with. If those methods cannot apply, we would resort to either spraying the PWC with a squirt bottle on the butt or side, or physically remove them from the room to another room.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our PWC would spend most of their time inside the home. For a period of time after adoption, the corgi would remain in a kennel when my husband and I are not home. After our PWC has become comfortable, we would allow it to roam free inside.

Who is this dog for?

Ourselves.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love corgi's for their looks and for their playful but loving personalities. I have limited experience with corgi's but I grew up with a Jack Russell Terrier so I am no stranger to very active pups! I have done my research on corgi's and do feel the breed is well suited to me. I do know that corgi's require a lot of exercise, daily grooming, and are very intelligent dogs that like to be challenged. I feel I am prepared to provide all of these as well as a very loving home.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, hiking and camping on the weekends. We have a dog park in the neighborhood that I would love to take my corgi to the help socialize him with other people and dogs. I would also love to do some agility training depending on the nature of my corgi.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With behavior training, redirecting the dog from negative behaviors and providing rewards to encourage positive behaviors. Never "disciplining" for bad behaviors but instead teaching a desired or tolerable behavior.

Discipline:
Again, I prefer not to discipline but rather to ignore negative behaviors, such as whining at the dinner table, etc. and instead to redirect by giving the dog his own special treat in a different room during mealtimes, etc.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our house and backyard.

As I stated in my previous paragraph we are just looking for the right fit, and would love to rescue a corgi. It has taken us years to open our hearts to a new corgi as our last one left a big hole when she departed. We take dog ownership very seriously, hence why it has taken us a few years to be ready for another one ?

Who is this dog for?

Our family, we had a corgi years ago and our hearts finally feel ready to bring a new one into the fold. I would love to rehome a corgi who needs a home before shopping for puppies.
Chris and I have 2 daughters, Cecilia (6) and Vivian (1), so a dog that would be comfortable with children is a must. We live in a duplex with a large fenced in back yard. With our previous corgi we enjoyed tons of time at the dog park, walking around the Capital, State Street and Memorial Union Terrace. Our dog becomes a beloved family member and gets to come everywhere they can with us!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We owned a Pemie, and she was the best dog ever. At that point in my career I was a Executive Director at a retirement home and she would frequently join me at work, and can actually still be seen in the promotional video! My love of corgi's started young from growing up on a large dairy farm, and corgi's being the smallest heard dogs.
I love everything about the breed, and making sure we cater our routines to having a corgi. We are more active and do more dog friendly family outings. I would also open my heart and my home to a pair of corgi's that needed to be homed together!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
All kinds of stuff! Dog park, long walks, loads of pets and snuggles. Also playing loads of fetch and training with obedience classes to make them a great doggo!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Through obedience training I think that a lot of that can be trained out proactively, opposed to re-actively. When a dog makes mistakes yelling and screaming doesn't achieve anything. It's about training the dog out of the poor behavior with skilled techniques.
I would never dream of physically harming a dog or reinforcing poor behavior with these types of actions. I never would hit my child, and my dogs are my fur children.

Discipline:
Re correcting the action and not praising it. I feel when you give treats/praise for using the restroom outside, or for positive behavior it goes so much further than anything else. Corgi's love food!

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At our home, due to working full time we would likely enroll him/her into a doggy daycare a few days as week as it's good for them to socialize with other dogs, of course the caveat to this would be a corgi who isn't a fan of other dogs.
But we're big on camping, road trips and just bringing our dog everywhere with us! We just can't bring them to work with us!

People at home during the day?
My husband works hours that make so he is home during the day frequently. On the days that he isn't home the dog would likely go to a daycare for socialization!

Where would dog eat?
We would ask whatever the foster family is feeding them. But with our last corgi we fed them Fromm's wet and dry food.

Where would dog sleep:
Ideally in bed next to me and my husband! But we'll have a safe area with a comfortable dog bed. If the corgi required it we could kennel it, but with training I think we'd have a couch walrus in no time!

Play & exercise:
I've already explained this in a couple of my other responses, but we have a big fenced in yard, as well as two daughters who love the park and long walks.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

For myself and my other dog, Latte (2 years old, spayed, UTD on vaccines).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Originally, I wanted to adopt a corgi for their cute little butt; however, once I met an actual corgi (one of my coworkers owns one) I immediately fell in love with how loyal he is and energetic. I realized a corgi might be a well rounded companion for my other dog, Latte. My coworker's corgi seemed to get along with her which gave me the impression that corgis might be potential good companions.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I tend to take Latte out for walks three times a day for 20min. This is the time I use for her to potty and get some fresh air (unless it is snowing that it is 10min walks four times a day). On weekends, when I stay in WI, we go to the dog park or when I visit family in Illinois, we take walks around the neighborhood.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe in positive reinforcement and treats. For example, when Latte has had an accident in the house, especially if I caught in her in the act, I would immediately take her outside. If she goes potty outside, I will give her a treat, if she doesn't, just for being outside, I would tell her that she is a good girl.

Discipline:
I believe in patience and treats for good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my apartment and surrounding neighborhood in Wisconsin since I moved up here for work.

House dog

People at home during the day?
No, however, I am gone only for work (about 8 hours) and he will have Latte as a companion while I am away.

Where would dog eat?
He will have his own dishes for food and water. Most likely buy him dry royal canine food (Latte eats the mini series, for him, most likely the medium series) unless my vet recommends another brand.

Where would dog sleep:
He will have his own bed in my bedroom just like my other dog.

Play & exercise:
Everyday he will be taken out for walks 3 times a day for 20min (once early morning around 7am, again before I leave for work (around 1:30pm) and then once after I get out of work (10pm). On the weekends I tend to take my dogs out to the dog park for an hour or so unless it is snowing or raining.

Who is this dog for?

Wife and teenage kids.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have a fenced-in backyard and a doggie door, the perfect size for a small to medium sized dog. Our beagles love it. I've done research but haven't had much exposure to the breed. I like the fact that they are protective of the family. My wife feels safer with a dog around. She doesn't want a guard dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Our family is active. We have many activities outside of our house to incorporate the dogs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would be consistent and firm when the dog is in training or not obeying the rules of the house. This breed need to know that the human is the master and not the other way around.

Discipline:
Push the dog over (quickly but gently) either on to his side or onto his back and lean over him. This reinforces that you are dominant. We've used spray bottles and short time-outs.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Like I said, we have a doggie door that leads to the backyard and we have a dog perch (Throne) that sits level with an outside window. Our Beagles would sit and watch the birds and wait for us to come home from there.

Who is this dog for?

I’m interested in adopting a Corgi rescue. I’ve also loved the breed and previously had a mixed corgi dog. I currently have 1 female dog who is mixed breed.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the breed. They are highly intelligent and want to please there owners making them very trainable. My sweet Scooter was a Corgi and Schipperke mix and was such a joy. He had a little extra sass but with socialization that was kept at a minimum. I have researched the breed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Right now Stella and I go on a long walk in the morning and then another in the evening. We try to at a minimum get 30 mins in. On the weekends we love to explore forest preserves and curl up for a lazy day.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If the dog is actively doing a behavior that is a mistake I would try and redirect it or their attention. If I get home and a mistake has happened like chewing or potty accident I clean up and move on. Also ensure the dog is getting proper activity to try and curb behavior.

Discipline:
I try to use positive reinforcement when positive things are happening. In the past to try and curb jumping I would turn my back to the dog until they settled.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Stella had little to no issues with Scooter my previous dog. Scooter was the 1st and Stella was introduced later. They lived together for 11 years. As of recent Stella has exhibited light aggression towards some dogs when we are outside or within her living space. She did not exhibit aggression with Scooter. He was a mixed breed of Corgi. I don’t anticipate this to be a problem that can’t be resolved with proper training. She has been food possessive in the past and I believe that could present again with a new addition but it is something we can rework on and establish good routines.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke is for myself. I have always wanted my own dog and I have always wanted a corgi. I am now in place in my life where I can have a dog and give it the attention it deserves.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because I love these dogs. I love the size of them, and I love that they have the mentality of a larger dog. I have no had much experience with this breed outside of running into them on the street, but I do know all it takes to keep up with their care. I grew up with pure bred Goldens, and although very different breeds, they do have some similarities. I know the importance of checking for ear infections as well as brushing teeth daily. They require a lot of exercise, which is something I can provide as I enjoy being outdoors. I am aware and comfortable with a dog that sheds a lot, and I know how to manage this fur by brushing it constantly. I would take them to our dog park with agility training to give them the opportunity to take part on this as it is something their breed excels in. I know the importance of keeping their food intake strict because obesity can occur easily in this breed. I will find health alternatives to treats to ensure they do not gain this weight.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take my Pembroke on daily walks outside of just using the bathroom. I would also take them to the fenced in dog park by my house and let them run around as they desire. If they enjoy swimming, I can take them swimming once a week at our lake house. I will also play with them around the house with their favorite toys.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would tell the dog no, and then I would put them in a time out for a little bit. After this, I would go up to the dog and calmly, yet sternly, tell them that what they did was bad. I would make sure they understood that it is not the end of the world that they made the mistake, but they must learn from it.

Discipline:
I would sternly tell them no, and I would use the time out. I would work on teaching them to sit immediately after hearing no in order to gain their attention. Depending on the severity of what the dog has done, I will gently push them to the side to remind them I am dominant and they must listen to me. I will take away attention from them for a little bit so they understood what they did was wrong.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My Pembroke would spend most of his/her time with me and out roaming around the house. If I were to leave and no one was home, I would put them in a crate if I was going to be gone for more than an hour

Who is this dog for?

Our family. Two adults, one 12 year old. We have two cats and one 1 year old corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We've had our corgi for about a year and could not be happier. He has been fun to train and see grow over the last year. As much as we liked adopting from a breeder we want to open our home to a corgi who may not have gotten that first chance.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live close to a dog park and would spend lots of time there. We do not have a fenced in yard but would spend time around the yard leashed. Hoping to put in a fenced in area soon. We would spend time on long walks in our neighborhood and take him/her to little league baseball games during the summer. Doggie daycare would keep him/her busy during the week when we work/go to school.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If making a mistake we would agree on what word/action to use. For example if pooping/peeing in the house we would use a firm "no" and bring him/her to the potty bells in the kitchen. We've done this with Douglas since he was a puppy and was potty trained within a few months. If nipping or grabbing something they shouldn't we would teach "drop it."

Discipline:
We use firm vocals. Such as "drop it," "come," or "leave it."

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home when we are home or doggy daycare/our parents house during the week.
