Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My grandparents owned Corgi’s and I have been around them. My whole family including me are from England and Corgi’s are very traditional to me. I am looking for a companion to be active in walking , but also accompanying me to work. They will be my companion. I have consulted AKC websites for research, though as stated I am familiar . |
||||||
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Traveling, to work, walking and relaxing. I have degenerative spinal arthritis and have had several surgeries, possibly more planned. Thus I cannot handle puppies and would like older dogs. I do walk continuously to keep active and rehab.

We work during the day. Like I said, Heather has been wanting a Corgi for a very long time, and we were waiting until one of the cats died to get a dog, so we didn't have too many animals. Now we have space. We have a small house, and a mostly fenced in yard, which I'll probably enclose if we get a dog. All I need is a security check and a gate over the driveway. We are in our late 30s and in good health. I think we can have a dog now. If this whole adoption thing doesn't work out, we'll have to track down a breeder I guess, which we'd rather not do. But we're not in a bug hurry either. |

Who is this dog for? |
It's for us, but mostly Heather. She's wanted a Corgi for ever. We had two cats, and it's just the two of us, so we couldn't take on more animals until one passed away. So one of our cats had to be put down a week ago, due to a cancer. Now we have room in the house, our other cat was adopted from a home that had two dogs and he was fine with them.

Who is this dog for? |
Me! | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
For starters they’re adorable. My dog Zeus (beagle) passed away in November from cancer after 11 years. He was always fascinated with them. I started asking questions to my various neighbors who own them and just felt they’d be a really neat dog to have. I like that they are large enough to be hearty (not too fragile), but small enough to be easily accepted in apartments, travel, etc. From what I’ve read about the breed, we also seem to have a similar temperament.

With love and understanding. Through positive reinforcement, and correcting the mistake in action (such as carrying them outside to pee mid stream, using verbal or body language cues to express displeasure… but praising when they do something right.)

Sound/verbal cues, physically correcting the action (ie removing a food or object, or taking them outside mid stream if having a potty accident)

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself! I plan on moving to Milwaukee this summer and need a walking companion!
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because I have always been in love with the breed. I think that Corgi's personalities are so unique and would be an amazing dog to raise on my own. Now that I am settling down in one city and living on my own, I would really like to have a dog that is known for its affection and alertness before I move to Milwaukee in the summer. I have done research on this breed over the past couple of years trying to convince my parents to get one, but I think now is the perfect time for me to adopt!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I would bring my Pembroke on a lot of walks throughout the city, morning and night. I would also explore different nature trails with them and take visits to the dog park.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If the Pembroke makes a mistake, I would make sure that they know what they did wrong and express my emotions. If it is an accident in a new place, I would understand, but if the Pembroke is just being naughty out of the ordinary, I would not reward them.
Discipline: |
I would use positive reinforcement for discipline. I would not reward bad behavior, but reward good behavior.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
My Pembroke would spend most of his or her time at home and outside.

Who is this dog for? |
Hayley Anders and Brian Principe
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Research leads me to believe the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the perfect breed for me because of his core characteristics– outgoing, energetic, social, a bit stubborn, curious and affectionate. Brian and I are active, always out and above exploring our beautiful city by foot or by car and we would love nothing more for a Corgi to join us on our adventures.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Plenty of exercise in the form of walking downtown and on the beach, meeting new friends at our apartment's dog park, playing fetch at any number of parks around town, plenty of belly rub sessions and Netflix marathons after long days outside playing.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Using a soft but stern voice say, "no" and command him to sit. Walk away and let him sit for a few minutes. Corgis are extremely social and he won't like the fact he isn't being played with.
Discipline: |
Another method I would use similar to the aforementioned would be time-out. It hits along the same theory that the Corgi will see the consequence of his actions lead to time-out.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Free in the home; depending on how his behavior is starting out, I may train him first in the crate when I am away at work and then gradually introduce him to a free living situation while I am away for work.

My dogs love same sized dogs and they are small dogs them selves. They will have a blast will a sibling. Corgis are small, adorable breeds that I've always loved them. Between the ones I've encountered they were playful, active, and. Their little legs are just too cute. What's not to love ?

|
Who is this dog for? |
Us! We would love to add a corgi to our family as a pet.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Before my husband and I were together I had a corgi who I got from a breeder as a puppy. I loved this breed! He was so smart and easy to train plus he had a wonderful temperament. Always wanted to be around people, loved riding in the car, and was great with strangers. We have always talked about getting a corgi again because we love the breed so much.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I work from home so most days he/she would be out with me but mainly lounging. We have a nice fenced in yard for the dog to run in whenever, but we also have close access to walking trails, which we would definitely take advantage of when the weather is nice. It's important to us to train our pup so we would love to play games and train him/her to do some tricks. I also have though about agility classes for fun! We also like to travel to visit family so the pup would come along with us! My family likes to go boating on the river so in the summertime that would be a fun activity for the dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Depends on the mistake, but obviously correcting it with positive reinforcement. Trying to redirect if there is a chewing incident, praising for using the bathroom outside, and of course giving treats for good behavior. Though our old dog really showed you if he did something wrong, like chewing up the remote so he knew he did bad.
Discipline: |
Mostly positive reinforcement, but of course we will tell a dog no if they can't do something. Saying "off" when they jump on you or the furniture to let them know they aren't allowed. We will be the ones in charge but to train them we will be positive.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In the house with us when we are home. If we go out we do believe in kenneling, but if we are gone for a longer period of time then there will be a dog sitter or the dog will go to someone else's house for that time.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself. I have been looking to give an adult or senior corgi a home for companionship.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Pembroke corgis are beautiful dogs, and I love their strong and independent nature. My family has always owned herding dogs, so I am used to this personality. I understand that corgis are often very active and high energy, but that is why we are hoping to adopt an older adult to senior corgi who may be starting to settle down. We have done quite a bit of research on the breed to make sure they would fit in our lifestyle, and we believe we would be an excellent home for a corgi.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Go on walks and hikes, trips to the dog park, road trips, etc. An overall adventure buddy. We would further plan activities depending on the age, and energy levels of the dog :).

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
With calm, assertiveness to let the dog know that they did something wrong. Also, the best time to let the dog know they did a mistake is while the mistake is happening, if possible. Otherwise, the dog could be confused. I read an article that says: “Any type of correction must be enforced only at the time of the infraction. This means you should verbally correct your dog while he is in the act of grabbing your shoe for a good chewing, or during the destruction. The BEST time to scold is when he is grabbing your shoe — the dog will know you’re disciplining him for interacting with the shoe at all, which should be off-limits to him.“
Discipline: |
By the method described above. Positive reinforcement is the best method to show the dog the correct behavior. If the dog is not doing the correct behavior, saying the same command such as no or tsch (like the dog trainer Cesar) will register within the dog over time that the behavior is not right.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Inside with me, however we do have a yard that the dog can run around in.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
For us, a newlywed couple!
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We absolutely love the breed for their personalities, their intelligence, and their love for their families. We feel like their energy level would be a good fit for our home because we like to go out and about to outdoor restaurants and parks. We love how intelligent they are and feel like their food motivation can very much help with training purposes. We have neighbors with corgis and that has been most of our contact with them. We also have done much research and will continue to do so as we move forward with adoption and have experiences with our corgi.

Who is this dog for? |
Myself, but my partner and I would be caring for it together.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have been in love with the corgi breed as long as I've know dogs. I grew up on a hobby farm so we were only allowed to have Labs/Springers. I have been on the quest to adopt instead of shop for a corgi. Hoping that maybe someday I can have an adorable little companion such as a corgi. I love their personalities the most, they are spunky, sassy at times, and clever. I also enjoy their look, cute and short. Once I was told by a friend if I was a dog I would be a corgi, and that's without them knowing my love for them. I have done my research, and I currently own a well behaved hearding dog. I believe they would get along nicely.

Accommodate in the appropriate way. Every dog makes mistake and are learning just like humans.
Discipline: |
I usually scolded for bad behavior either by showing the dog what they did wrong and use a stern tone, even sometimes us the crate as a punishment. But I rather have a crate be a safe place for a dog than a time out.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With me, my boyfriend and other dog in the house or going places with us.
