Who is this dog for?

First applicant, Martiyana, will be primary owner. She is experienced with dogs having owned two previously.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have never owned a corgi of my own before, but I have a close friend who has one and I just adore how much personality they have! They seem to be such a darling breed and I would love to own one of my own someday. I have done a great amount of research on the breed and realize that every dog is different, but their generally fun, playful, and loving temperaments are exactly what I’m looking for in a dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I love taking my current dog for walks, but as he grows older he’s not enjoying them as much anymore, As such, I would love to have a dog who can go for walks, play fetch with me, and just cuddle up after a long day,

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I believe in strictly positive reinforcement training for dogs. If my dog makes a mistake, I tend to quickly redirect them into doing what is right. For example, during house training, if I see my dog committing the act of doing their business indoors, I will quickly take them outside instead and give them a reward every time they do it outside, Or if the dog was chewing on furniture, a quick fix would be to redirect its attention to a toy. If they make a mistake while I am not around, I will simply ignore it and fix it as dogs do not understand delayed punishment at all.

Discipline:
I do not use any kind of punishment with my dogs. Positive reinforcement and distractions from the problem only,

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
They would spend most of the time roaming the house as they please, playing or cuddling with me, or out in the backyard.

Who is this dog for?

Myself, My dog recently passed away and I've always wanted a Corgi, ready to give one a home.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have looked into this breed. I love their playful energy and the way there legs are so little, I've never fallen in love with the look of an animal until I saw a Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
They would be my best friend. I would take them on walks, take them shopping with me, go up north over the summers with them. Basically anything I do they'll be doing with me.

I work part time and have teenagers home in the summer. I also have a neighbor who let's zelly out if necessary.

Like my dog in her crate with the door open. For positive association, like zelly does.

Our dog will be walked daily, but we have a small unfenced yard, so a dog on the high end of the range would probably not be suited for us.
On the other hand, our ultimate goal would be that our dog would be trained appropriately to be a true service dog and be able to accompany Cierra most anywhere where she goes, so the dog would need to be able to keep-up.

Who is this dog for?

Cierra Campbell, age 13. I (Nancy) am Cierra's grandmother and guardian. Cierra has problems with depression and anxiety issues. We plan to work with a professional trainer on a weekly basis for 12-18 months so that Cierra's PWC will be able to serve as a service or support dog for her.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Cierra and I have done a good deal of research about small dogs appropriate as psychiatric service dogs, and PWC are on most of the lists. Their activity level and ease-of-training fit our needs well. Their long lifespan is a plus. We are a bit concerned about grooming and shedding, but understand that daily grooming will be needed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We hope that our PWC will become a service dog for Cierra. We realize that at some point, we may need to make the decision to stop working with the dog on being a service dog and accept the dog as wonderful pet. Even if we don't reach our lofty goal, we think the breed would be a perfect companion and emotional support dog for Cierra. The same trainer that we will be working with also trains dogs to be therapy dogs. I'm a librarian; so I see a possible career for our PWC in the library field 🙂

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I'm not expert- that's why we will be turning to a professional trainer for advice- but I'd assume firmly and promptly, looking to convey disapproval without anger.

Discipline:
I've not had a dog in many years. My last dog, Hank, was a well behaved I adopted through Mixed-up-Mutts. I don't really remember doing much in the way of training; I probably just got lucky. I have a husband and granddaughter living in home now, so I'm sure we will be much more deliberative in our training.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home. Ideally, he/she would be able trained enough to begin accompanying Cierra on outings to library, church, counseling appointments etc within first year. Eventually, accompanying her to school will be something we will need to discuss as we get closer.

People at home during the day?
I leave for work around 9am; Cierra and my husband are home by 3pm. I work just 5 minutes from home so would probably take lunch break around noon each day to let dog out mid-day.

Where would dog eat?
Most likely in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
In Cierra's room, beside her bed. Cierra has trouble with sleep and lots of nightmares, so having her dog there where she can snuggle briefly then get back into bed seems ideal.

Play & exercise:
The daily walks will be necessary for dog and therapeutic for Cierra. Regular exercise is shown to be equally effective for depression as most anti-depressants. More extensive play/exercise will be weekly; we live within walking distance of a large park and a dog park.

Must be okay with cats and other dogs. We currently have resident cat who would likely just like to coincide next to the dog, not be a playmate. We also anticipate having another dog in the future and have many friends with dogs who bring them to our home when they visit.

Who is this dog for?

The future pembroke would be an addition to our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love how social, playful, and active the breed is. Karl and I are active outdoors people who love to take walks and get outside. We are looking for a family dog who is also intelligent and trainable – something corgis are well known for! Depending on if this pup would be the right fit, I would consider training him/her to be a therapy dog. I currently work in a hospital setting and would love to come on my off days as a volunteer and therapy dog. We also have a corgi on our neighborhood block and would love to add another!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a fenced in yard perfect for running and playing fetch. We also live 1.5 blocks from Minneapolis’s extensive trail system where we already do plenty of runs and walking and would love to incorporate a corgi into our routine.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have been around Corgis and Australian Shepherds all my life. I mainly have had Aussies while other members of my family have had Corgis. I lost my Aussie in May and havent replaced him. He was such q special dog and i am afraid i would compare another one to him. So i decided i would do a Corgi. So no comparison issues. I love the corgis. Many of my horse show family have them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I walk /run daily so he would go with me. The dog would travel with me . Be my companion to the horse shows. If i was gone for work or where i could not take him, i have 2 individuals who will come to my house and stay with my dog. I never use kennels, not that theres anything wrong with them. But i feel that its bad enough to have their owner gone and they need stability and comfort so a kennel just ads to the anxiety. They would stay in their own home with their own things.

Who is this dog for?

David and me – we are a couple in their 50's. We had a very successful rescue corgi placement from Ohio Valley (we have applied to them for another as well – but we understand just how rare adoptable corgis are) for five years, Shelby came to us at age 9 and died in the spring at 14.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the big dog attitude and feel in a smaller body that works well in our town home. We also love the intelligence and curiosity of the breed. I am Welsh by birth, so that is a draw too. We are highly familiar having been successful rescue owners for the past five years

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks daily, play daily, and time visiting my parents. Also all the necessary dog things of baths, vet visits etc. Our last dog really liked car rides so we might do that, depending on the new one.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Verbal correction, removal of the temptation/cause, reducing the likelihood of it happening again by doing our side of it (not leaving food on a low surface for instance), removal of the dog from the situation, exposure of the dog in a controlled way to the situation (say other dogs if he was aggressive) with leash and direct control

Discipline:
Verbal and removal primarily. we will use a leash to control behavior when needed

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At our house

People at home during the day?
We both work fulltime. For our past corgi we had a regular dog walker who came at around 1 pm daily for a 30 minutes walk. It worked well. We are home until about 8:30 in the morning, and back by 5:30

Where would dog eat?
A healthy dog food as recommended by our vet. The last corgi had food related skin allergies so he was on a special diet.

Where would dog sleep:
in our bedroom – our last corgi had a bed in our room and it worked well

Play & exercise:
We want a dog because we are missing this part of our life, we would walk 3-4 times daily and lots of play

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
The fenced in yard is actually across the street at my parent's house – it is fenced around with a solid gate. Shelby enjoyed it and was well restrained by it. He did not ever escape. we would closely watch a new dog to check that he was well restrained too

Living arrangements:
Own home

Willing to train children?
No children in our direct lives – but we have found that other children are very attracted to the corgi (his height and teddybearishness I think) and so we worked with Shelby to be gentle and responsive

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We've had a corgi in the past and we miss having a clever, goofy little cuddle monster in the house. We owned our previous corgi for 7 years until he passed this autumn, and prior to his adoption had done extensive research before taking him home. He was silly and sweet and was incredibly good with the cats and rabbits in the household.

Couch cuddling, walks to the park, training classes, playtime.
