I live on a farm with Icelandic Sheep and cattle. The large area around my home is fenced and my dog is confined to that area. I would not want a corgi to get in with the sheep, partially as a concern that the dog would harass them but also that the sheep would chase the dog. My dog once jumped in the pen with the sheep and I had to rescue her from being butted. Dog should also be cat friendly.

Who is this dog for?

For me and also as a companion to my pyrenees/border collie.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've loved corgis since my grandmother gave me one of Tasha Tudor's books as a child. My experiences with corgis are limited to a neighbor with one and admiring them from afar. Yes, I have done research on the breed. Not a fan of small dogs, I've always considered corgis an exception as they house a big dog personality in a small package. After I lost my last two dogs to old age, I thought I might be ready for a small dog. Gypsy came into my life, clearly not small. I still think small would still be good addition.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Living on a farm means being outside much of the time, so I would expect a corgi to be outside with me. I would also appreciate a corgi that would chase groundhogs and rabbits for recreation. And squirrels. The deer usually stay on the other side of the fence. I take Gypsy to town with me, and while she oddly doesn't appreciate the dog park, she loves to go to the farm supply store. There's a great dog obedience trainer in a nearby town and I would expect to take a corgi to dog obedience.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would first examine my behavior and if I created the situation that contributed or caused the mistake. I believe in gentle correction and changing the environment if that was a contributor.
When I first got my current dog, at one year old, she dug holes all over the yard. So I planted daffodils in the holes. She doesn't dig anymore, so I have to dig my own daffodil holes.

Discipline:
If the mistake is observed immediately, "no" or "leave it",

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me, inside or out, as she/he prefers. My Pyrenees/Border Collie let me know that she wanted to spend the night outside protecting the farm. We worked it out, and now I only insist that she's inside if it's too cold or hot at night. She's usually out all night doing her job and sleeping all day on the love seat.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt a corgi to be my Emotional Support Animal, more specifically the corgi breed because I will be living in apartments for up to two years before I am able to get a house of my own. I love the breed, ive had one once before. I loved how spunky he was and i kept him at an appropriately weight since I understand corgis can easily become overweight. I would love to have another as I lost my corgi, Ed a year and a half ago. I have done loads of research on them over the past few years because I wanted to learn the breed to be the best dog momma I could for my last corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take them on walks a few times a week, give them plenty of love and cuddles. Id also love to take them to the dog park to keep them socialized and exercised. Road trips, camping and generally just being a part of the family!

Reaffirmation, start from the top and try again. If its an accident inside, take them to the spot, say no, and take them outside, repeat if it happens again and let them know outside is where they do their buisness. Positive reinforcement to help progress too with treats and pets when they do good

Discipline:
Firm tone of voice to let them know you are in charge, take away any toys for a little while, but after give them positive reinforcement to show them you still care.

Who is this dog for?

This corgi is for us but mostly me. My alpha corgi died about 4 months ago. Our next courting will be my service dog again but also so loved and spoiled. She would be one lucky corgi and so would I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I had a corgi, my service dog, for ten years. I loved her playfulness, her silliness, her ability to love. Her different kinds of barks that meant different things. Her protectiveness and since she was alpha, her ability to control the hour (cats dogs daughter) when she had to. We loved her so much.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We took her most places with us as she was my service dog. She was kind and gentle with everyone. Everyone she met loved her. Mostly walking, playing ball, swimming ( with a life jacket). Playing with toys

Who is this dog for?

Both of , we own a 13 yr old male husky.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have always liked corgis since we worked with Adopt A Husky as volunteers and Adopt a Husky founder Lois Leonard. Lois raised corgis along with her huskies. We feel at this time in our lives we need to move to a smaller breed than a husky and that corgis would be an ideal fit.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We currently walk 3 miles a day with Comet, our Husky. We also have a large (1/2 acre) of fenced yard.

Colleen Grandrath

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I currently own a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Keaton. He is three years old and I would love for him to have a companion. He is great with other dogs of all varieties, but he is just the right size and level of spunk for my current lifestyle. He gets along with my big orange tabby, Oliver, but Keaton definitely displays more energy than Oliver, who is a definite couch potato kitty! I do not work at home, so most of the work week, Keaton and Oliver are at home alone. I would love for Keaton to have a Corgi companion to play with during the day, and I would also personally love to give another Corgi a loving home! From my experience with Keaton and other Corgis, the breed is perfectly suited to my personality and lifestyle.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I have no intentions of using my potential rescue for any kind of competitive activities. My activities would reflect what Keaton and I do already. When I come home from work, we usually go for a walk around the neighborhood, or play in the backyard. If the weather isn't nice, we love to play fetch inside our home with toys! At night there is always cuddling on the couch and eventually going to bed where Keaton makes sure to get comfortable right where my feet should be! (He's a bit spoiled if you haven't noticed!) Weekends give us more opportunity for adventuring. During warmer months, I often bring Keaton to the local farmer's market. He is also a regular at my parent's home where he gets to play with their two German Shepherds, Maya and Darby, in their expansive yard. Keaton grew up with the two shepherds, so tends to forget that he is just a tad smaller than them!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Mistakes are to be expected of dogs and can be handled in a variety of ways depending upon the nature of the incident. In my experience, I first access why the mistake occurred, and if there were means I or someone else should have or could have taken to prevent it. Mistakes are almost always a result of human error, not beginning with the animal.

Discipline:
I have trained Keaton to acknowledge verbal cues. Discipline never goes beyond a firm "no" immediately after an incident occurs.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
As is the case with Keaton, while I am at work they would have run of the house, snoozing, playing with toys, or chewing on antlers. Otherwise time would be spent in our fenced yard playing outside, or following me everywhere I go!

People at home during the day?
My fiancé and my brother both live with me. They are in and out of the house throughout the day, so someone is usually in the home at least every four hours or so other than myself.

Where would dog eat?
They would eat within our kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
In the bedroom with my fiancé and I. Keaton almost always sleeps on the bed with us, even though there is a dog bed in the room, so a new friend would be able to sleep wherever they choose!

I would take them on walks around our neighborhood, allow them to run in our fenced yard and run in my parent's large yard frequently, and lots of play within the house (there are almost always toys flying through the air for Keaton to play fetch with!) Playing in the yard and playing with toys inside happen every day.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Description of yard:

Out our back door it leads to our deck. There is a staircase at the end of the deck that leads into a fenced in grassy area with a few small trees. The deck is on the east side of the house, so during the summer there is nice shade provided onto the grass. The door leading to the back also first leads into a small entry area. This area I leave open so Keaton can come in for shelter if it is raining and I can't let him back into the house right away.

Who is this dog for?

This pet is for us. We have a Red Welsh corgi now named Cali who's 1 year old and would like to add to our family as she loves playing and being around other dogs. Were looking for a male Tri color but we are certainly open to all colors and personalities.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the breed. As I stated before we have one now (Cali) and have fallen in love with everything corgi. We have had fertility issues and shes really been a support system for my wife during tough times of stress or sadness. Shes been a great addition to our family and we love her dearly. We love how funny the breed is as well. Cali is such a unique snowflake and loves to talk to us and play and run and its all just so much fun caring for this breed. We have also done 2 years of research prior to us getting our first corgi to make sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into and we havn't looked back since. Were convinced that we are corgi people now. In fact my wife even dressed up like the queen of Englad for Halloween with Cali, it was too funny.. Cali loved it.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lots of walks, lots of naps, lots of play time and cuddles. We have a home on a lake in South Western Michigan that our corgi loves and were convinced out next pet will too.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Calmly try to explain that what they were doing is unacceptable. It has worked will with our current corgi. Ill stand over her and say her name in a deep voice and by that point she knows somethings wrong.

Discipline:
I've used a squirt bottle once and lime juice but wasnt a fan of either really. I point my finger which has taught my current corgi either were going to play or shes in trouble if I lower my voice a bit.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Probably in my lap. next to my wife or I on the couch. A kennel when we are asleep and or not home. Grandparents house when were away or out of town.

House dog

People at home during the day?
No, we both work 8- 5 jobs.

In the Kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Next to our bed in a kennel.

Play & exercise:
I always play with Cali ( our current corgi ) as soon as I get home around 5ish for about 30-45 mins before she eats. Some times she will help me get dinner ready in the kitchen by laying on my feet to keep them warm or scratch my legs when she wants a piece of sweet potato. Cali loves to play and although we want another corgi for ourselves I'm sure we as puppy parents wont get much attention till they are both tuckered out.

Who is this dog for?

Sarah and Nathan

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Sarah grew up with dogs and just really cares that it is a rescue. Her parents currently (and while she was living with them in the past) have a dog that is a Corgi-mix. Nate has wanted a Corgi for a very long time. He particularly enjoys the affectionate disposition of Corgis. We live in an apartment (and will for the foreseeable future) so we wanted a small/medium size dog that wouldn't feel overly cramped in an apartment, but that will also enjoy the activities that we frequently do (described below).

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We really enjoy going on walks around the city. When the weather permits, we also really enjoy getting outside of the city to go on (light) hikes through state parks, etc. We would want to take the Corgi on these walks. Additionally, we would utilize the dog parks near us for play time, etc.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
This would vary pretty widely based on what the mistake is. Often I find that inappropriate chewing, etc. is correctly at the owner level by just making sure that items are not left out. For behavioral mistakes, we plan to utilize obedience training and, as a general rule, redirecting activities to direct the Corgi into better actions, etc.

Discipline:
Crating when necessary but typically telling them 'no' and redirecting their actions has been sufficient.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
An apartment in the city of Chicago.

People at home during the day?
About 50-75% of the time Nate is home all day. Sarah works a very flexible schedule is usually only gone from 10am-3/4pm.

Where would dog eat?
In the apartment.

Where would dog sleep:

Play & exercise:
Our apartment complex has a dog run that is covered for days with bad weather. When not raining, etc., we would go on actual walks through the neighborhood, along the lake, etc. and utilize the many dog parks nearby. Additionally, if both of us need to work in the office more than usual, we would plan to put the Corgi into dog day care to get some socialization and exercise for the day. This dog will get a moderate amount of play/exercise.

How will you exercise your dog?

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
I am willing to try to resolve the problem. Our cat has lived with dogs on various occasions (when Sarah has lived with her parents in the past) and the cat didn't have an issue with the dogs. The one concern is really making sure that the dog doesn't have aggressive behaviors towards the cats. I have been around dogs that no amount of training would stop the aggression towards other animals/cats. I would want to ensure that the Corgi has at least been in the presence of a cat to ensure that we don't have any issues with this. In the past my parents have had the shelters "cat test" the dog where they put the dog in the room with a cat to ensure that they don't exhibit any immediately aggressive behaviors prior to adoption and that has worked well for my family in the past.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am looking to adopt a Corgi because I am looking for a small short dog. What I like about this breed is that they are smart and assertive. They are a big dog in a small dog's body. I do not have experience with Corgis but have owned two Swedish Vallhunds so I understand the herding dog personality. I have done research on this breed and know they shed, can bark a lot, and have a tendency to become overweight.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
The activities I would do is go for walks, play ball or Frisbee, take day trips to the beach, visit family, and just plain hang out together.
