Both my husband and I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because we have done extensive research on the breed and feel that it would be a great fit as a sibling for our current dog. Our current dog is very mild mannered and gentle, and gets easily overwhelmed by large dogs with lots of energy. We have always loved the breed for their characteristics and believe it would be a great fit as far as energy level and mannerisms for our current dog.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Honestly we focus the majority of our life around our dog, we take him pretty much everywhere we go that he is allowed to go too. We frequent the dog park, local woods for walking and lakes for swimming, doggie play groups, etc. But we are also always down to snuggle on the couch 🙂

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We realize that dogs make mistakes, just like humans. If the Pembroke made a mistake we would address it ASAP, ideally while they are in the process so they know what they are being disciplined for, we would then firmly say no and/or snap (one of our preferred training methods) and redirect.

Discipline:
We primarily use positive reinforcement with our dog, but use “time outs” in his crate as necessary. He knows ‘no’ and ‘go home’ in terms of discipline which means go to his crate for a break. We have also trained him to respond to a snap if he is doing something he is not supposed to.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our Pembroke would spend most of his or her time with us and Gotham either in our home or out in the community/in nature.

Who is this dog for?

Iris and Ryan McFarlin (us!)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are looking for a people-oriented, affectionate dog as a new addition to our home. We both grew up with dogs and miss the companionship they offer. We feel that the Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be a good size for us at this time as well. We've read up on the breed and feel we have a good general knowledge of what to expect from a Pem. We have a friend from college who owns a Pem and have been delighted to get to spend some time with him!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Exercise outings/outdoor time – walks, trips to parks, dog park (potentially, depending on the dog)
Obedience training and learning tricks for mental stimulation
Ryan works on a college campus and would love to bring our four-legged friend with him to work sometimes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We have found that a firm verbal "No" is often enough for smaller mistakes. If there is need, we may crate the dog for a little bit (e.g. jumping all over guests or excessively begging at the table).

Discipline:
We are firm believers in using positive reinforcement for training, but realize that sometimes you do indeed need to discipline as well. In such cases, we aim for constructive discipline to gently but firmly guide the dog rather than frighten or scare it into submission. Fear is never an acceptable discipline or training tool in our perspective.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Loose in the house or out and about with us. If at all possible, we do not want to have to crate our dog during the times we are gone. We understand that that is excruciatingly boring for the dog, not to mention the fact that they have no room to stretch or run around.

People at home during the day?
We both work flexible jobs that allow us to be home at various times throughout the day or even work from home for large chunks of the day. It is rare that both of us are out of the house for the entire "normal" work day.

Where would dog eat?
Out of his bowl placed on top of a mat (exact location for bowl in house may take some experimentation to see what works best)

Where would dog sleep:
On his own bed, in his crate, or loose in the house where he pleases. However, we have decided that our bed will be off-limits to our future dog.

Play & exercise:
We will take him/her on multiple walks a day to potty and exercise. In addition, we would like to take our dog to parks to walk/play and maybe the dog park as well, depending on the dog's personality and level of comfort with other dogs. And, of course, we will play with him/her at home, too! We recognize that it is very important to give our pup adequate play and exercise every day, so this is a top priority. As we get to know our new dog, we will get a better idea of how much he or she needs on a daily basis to wear him/her out.

I am happy to speak more with someone about anything on my application. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love how versatile the Corgi is. They are both adorable and hardy, and extremely affectionate. I want a companion who is up for a good adventure and who loves its people, and Corgis fit the bill. I also appreciate that they are a typically healthy breed while acknowledging that common ailments such as hip dysplasia can occur as the dog becomes older.

Walks on leash, local dog park off leash once dog is acclimated, perhaps swimming and boating if the opportunity arose. Basic obedience classes would be excellent.

My last Corgi was an adopted rescue from a puppy mill. I absolutely loved seeing her blossom and become a happy, loving dog. I definitely would not be opposed to another opportunity like that!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I fell in love with Corgis when I young (I watched a special on tv about the breed), and got my first one when I was 12. They are spunky, fierce, loyal, and have STRONG personalities! There is not another breed with the same amount of weird. Ever since my Pixie passed away, I have had a Corgi-shaped hole in my heart. I am passionate about rescue. Pixie was a rescue, and I promised her if she had to leave, that I would use that opportunity to save another life.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Training is largely about positive reinforcement, especially with rescue dogs who may have been penalized roughly for their mistakes in the past. Mistakes can be moved past. Good behavior needs to be reinforced with praise and/ or treats- depending on the dog.

Discipline:
It depends on the behavior and the dog. We use some verbal scolding, time out, or ignoring attention-seeking behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house, yard, or hiking. We do have a large kennel that is indoor but gives outdoor access.

Who is this dog for?

The Pembroke would be for my fiance and me to start our family

Why do you want a Pembroke?
from research and meeting some amazing Pembrokes over the years I think we have found a perfect match for our lifestyle. I would like an intelligent dog that I can train to truly be mans best friend while also gaining a fur baby (does not need to be a puppy to be our baby) for my fiance and me to love and snuggle while also have a companion to play with and motivate us to be active when the dog needs playtime. We have both grown up with several dogs in our parent's houses and would love nothing more than to call one of these angles our own. I also believe a Pembroke will be perfect for our lifestyle. we hope that our new family member will be comfortable in the car for day trips to visit new places in Wisconsin and go exploring with us.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
walks, hiking, going to the park and running around or playing fetch, having playtime in our apartment with them. Also lazy snuggle time.

Who is this dog for?

For the family as a companion dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love little dogs with short legs and long bodies. I have never spent time with a corgi–so no experience there. I have read that they are smart, stubborn, loyal and need to be with their family 22 hours out of 24.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I take Addie on walks 3 to 4 times a week. Sometimes they are just short 1/2 hour walks. Sometimes they last for over an hour. Depends on what's going on that day, I also take her XC skiing and snow shoeing. My Husband has taken her ice fishing. During the Summer we take her to the lake for a swim. She has her own life jacket. In the Fall we take her to the local county parks and let her run loose pending on the amount of people around.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With Addie I usually say "NO" in a loud, deep voice and remove dog from the situation–pending on what the 'mistake' is about..

Discipline:
When Addie is not behaving I try to catch her in the 'activity of concern' and stop her by saying 'No Addie' and apply pressure/pushing her down on the shoulders. I'm not forceful or mean about it.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the Family room where we spend the majority of our time. As I get to trust the dog more, I will let her have more access to the house and eventually let her sleep upstairs with the family.

People at home during the day?
Most the time. I work 2 days a week 12 hour shifts. My Husband works days 8 hour shift/40 hours a week. My 18 y/o works mostly weekends at night. My 15 y/o is at school during the week.

Where would dog eat?
I haven't decided that one yet. Addie has her dish at the back entrance off the family room. I think the dogs should have separate feeding areas to prevent 'food issues'. Maybe just have a community water dish.

Where would dog sleep:
She would sleep in the family room where there is the kennel and be kenneled at night. When she gains my trust she can have more access to the house. Addie kinda bed hops during the night. Usually she sleeps with my husband and I.

Play & exercise:
We have a pretty good size yard that is fenced in. We have a large walnut tree with plenty of squirrels to chase. Addie sprints from the side door to the pine tree in back about 10 times a day. With all her running you'd think she would be skin and bones. Still kinda chunky.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
It's a 6 foot wood privacy fence.

Description of yard:

My yard is fenced in. I have a lot of flowers surrounding the inside perimeter. There use to be plants around the pine trees but Addie flatten those out. We do have a wood chicken house that I would like to convert to a doggie play house (my 9 y/o chicken just died). We have a baby pool for the dog–she really doesn't use it though. But I like to stick my feet into it once in awhile.

Household members:

Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
kelly parkinen. The kids are pretty good about brushing the dog.

Willing to train children?
They are old enough and do pretty well. Kaitlyn likes to play with Addie like she is a dog and I think Addie is going to bite her in the face one of these days.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
I'm going to keep them separate for awhile using a baby gate. They will be able to see/smell each other but not have direct contact. I think it would be best to take them for walks together for bonding . Hannah would help with that. Jeff would too. I'm really not worried about Addie being aggressive–she has had other dogs bark/growl at her and she did not respond like wise. But I do expect she will not like to share her Daddy with others.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.
