Who is this dog for?

We are looking for a dog for the two of us, who we can love and take care of for several years to come. We have a large home and yard, no other pets, and while we don’t have small kids in our home, we have neighbors with young girls who sometimes visit.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have done research on the breed and have found the temperament to be compatible with our lifestyle. They are simply adorable and loyal, which we love. They are smart and fun.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We plan to adopt a dog to be a member of the family, so we will do a lot together, like take walks, snuggle on the sofa, play in the back yard, and visit people. We’re fortunate to have many dog friendly places nearby (shopping/dining).
We welcome a protective bark when needed, but we plan to ensure there is discipline as well, as we’ve done with our previous family dogs.

She will be with us in our home most of the time. We’ll take her on short car trips to places where she’s welcome. We’ll visit friends and family.

House dog

People at home during the day?
We are home for all but about 7 hours on most school days, but we have a reliable, wonderful dog walker who will spend an hour with her during that time.

Where would dog eat?
We have fed previous dogs whatever food is recommended by the vet for their individual needs with great results.

Where would dog sleep:
She’ll sleep in whatever environment she prefers. My previous dog slept in her bed in the on suite master bath, where she could see and smell me while I slept. That enabled me to get a good night’s sleep even though she was only comfortable with having me close.
I’m open to other options as well.

Play & exercise:
She’ll get as much exercise and play time as she needs. I will take her out every morning for a walk and play with her, as I have with my previous dog. My daughter will play with her before school as well. Then we have a dog walker who will come a few hours later to play with her and walk her. When my daughter gets home in the afternoon, she’ll take her out in the backyard to play or play inside. She’ll be part of the family, so we’ll have dinner together, do homework with her snuggled nearby, and rub her belly if we watch TV.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Description of yard:

Large yard with a back patio that has comfy outdoor furniture for snuggling, and lots of grass for rolling and sniffing. There’s a large maple tree that gives us plenty of shade. This neighborhood is filled with dog lovers, so on every walk we take, we meet lots of friendly folks and their dogs, who sometimes like to visit with us. Others are less interested in saying hello, so we give them their space.
There is a shallow retention pond behind the back yard that we’ve never had any issues with. But we’ll be diligent to ensure proper leashing/training because a trip in the water would mean an immediate bath, as it’s yucky.

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

She’s a dog walker, currently caring for a 100 lb lab, a greyhound, and a Pekingese. She’s very educated on how to care for and train dogs.
I have owned 5 dogs over my lifetime, and I am willing to continue to learn all I can to ensure a great experience for all of us.

Saying “no” and “stop” to begin with. Depending on the behavior put them in a crate for a “time out”. Using corrective words with a negative tone of voice, showing negative body language to let them know that they made a mistake.

Discipline:
We both believe respect discipline. We would both have the same rules and we would both be dominant. Positive behavior is encouraged with positive consequences, like treats in r belly rubs. Negative behavior has negative consequences.

We anyone was home they would spend the time either inside with us or outside in the yard. When no one is home, until trained, they would be in a crate. There is only small amount of time during the day were no one is home.

We recently lost our corgi of 13+ years. A new corgi would receive lots of love and attention. While we do work from home, a new corgi would be left alone occasionally for when we do errands, etc. and our concern would be any separation anxiety issues including destructive behaviors. A crate trained corgi would be helpful during our getting used to each process. We have 38 acres total with approximately 4 acres of this being our yard and mowed walking trails. We have 6 grand children and occasionally their family dogs join them for visits to our home.

Jeanne & Dennis Rego

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have owned 5 Golden Retrievers and one Corgi. Our last set of dogs was two female Retriever litter mates and Zoey our Corgi. Zoey was sweet, silly, affectionate, loved walks with her big seesters and playing ball, car rides, Saturday mornings at the local farm market. Zoey would literally do "squirt spurts" begging her big seesters to chase her and wrestle with them. The only kind of dog Zoey would meet were other Retrievers – refused to acknowledge all other breeds :-). Being in our 60's it gets harder physically to assist large breed dogs as they age and need more assistance or develop health issues. Corgi's are a smaller breed, but have a big breed head with their confidence and personalities.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, car rides, play ball, whatever. We will take the time to get to know a new Corgi and it's personality and learn it's preferences and do favorite activities from there.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
That would depend upon the mistake. In general believe it works best if one can catch the mistake as it happens. Tell/show the dog what was wrong, and immediately redirect situation to a good outcome and reward. Honestly, Zoey was so good and wanted to please, so corrections were rarely needed and tended to be more about her being a young puppy and the learning process that comes with that. Once grown, Zoey was a perfect companion. We believe in being pro-active and not creating a tempting situation to begin with so dog is not set up for failure.

Discipline:
Showing them what is incorrect, gentle but firm verbal scolding and if needed a kennel time out.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Where ever we are. When working in our offices, hopefully Corgi would choose to spend time with us. We are big gardeners, so outside with us whenever we are outside.

Who is this dog for?

My husband Dan and I

Why do you want a Pembroke?
In our 31 years of marriage, we have owned a long-haired dachshund that lived for 16 1/2 years, shortly after him we rescued a Red-tick cattle healer mixed with a Beagle he was 6 months old. He was very sick when we got him and he had seizures for most of his life (which we medicated for) until he passed away at 13 in May 2018. In my research on the Corgi breed, I appreciate the easy-going personality, trainablity and small-dog size, which is what would be a good fit for us.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walk daily as we are active. We also own a boat, and would like to take the dog with us boating (the boat has a shade area for the dog and myself, :). My husband and I like to spend a lot of time outdoors, which I think a dog would like as well. We are interested in getting a dog to spend time with. We also have friends with dogs and kids that are well socialized so we would socialize our new dog. Our dogs become our fur-babies, they are family. We are also considering purchasing a camper so we can take our dog with us on vacations.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If catching the dog making a mistake in the act, I would calmly walk over and firmly say "No" and then immediately either pick him up and take the dog outside or to the paper, and then when the dog continues in the right spot, I would praise him which constitutes an acceptable behavior. If unable to catch in the act, then I just clean up the mess because he won't understand the correction at that point. Continually praising good behavior is the most effective training.

Discipline:
Calmly saying "No" and then teaching them to sit (this sometimes works as a distraction from the behavior they were exhibiting). Also, stop playing with them or turn your back for a bit. Also, letting them outside for a mini time out break. And always praising good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Either inside our home or if we are outside, with us in whatever we are doing.

Who is this dog for?

My boyfriend and I have been looking to adopt a corgi. My mom and dad own a corgi basethound that is now 16 years old. I recently adopted a kitten and am in search of a buddy for him. I have only ever owned Corgi's and cannot imagine owning any other kind of dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Growing up, my parents had a corgi-husky mix. He unfortuently went blind when I was 7 years old but that was my moms life companion before she even met my dad. We found her a better home with my uncle as my sister and I were to young to be around the dog. My mom jokes all the time still that if she could have given us up, she would have to keep Madison. When my dad got back from the military when I was 10 or 11 years old, we got Piper. Piper is a Corgi-Basethound. She is the best dog anyone could have ever asked for. I took to her agility training, she trained with my mother for the Avon-39 in 2015, and has been my personal best friend my whole life. We went driving together, hiking together, and sometimes even swimming. About a year ago, Piper got Degenerative Myelopathy and has been struggling to keep up with the young puppy inside her. I have since moved out and into an apartment with my boyfriend of two and a half years. We have recently gotten a VERY energetic kitten that we love dearly. We have been talking about getting a corgi for the last two years, but the timing wasn't right. Sirius, are all black american shorthair kitten, recently went to the vet where they told us he would do better and calm down more if we got a puppy/young dog as a companion. Noah and I see this as the sign that the time is right to get our forever friend. Noah is a volunteer firefighter and needs a dog who is energetic and willing to be active with him. I am needing a snuggle bug to curl up and binge watch marvel movies with.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Noah and I are both very active people. We love to run, go hiking and go on long drives with the top of his convertible down! We also like watching movies and playing video games. We like to do it all!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have had a corgi before and I love them. I like the looks of the dog and their personalities. My corgi, fitzy was active and a good family dog. He did play rough with our three cats and loved to run around our neighborhood to visit everyone. He had a great personality.

I would take him for walks and to visit my friends and family. especially my brothers family. They have two kids and a dog and I would bring my corgi with me when we visit and barbeque
