Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the curious, herding nature of these dogs. Their bright, energetic disposition and their general need for a lot of attention/affection is also great.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My dog and I would do quite a bit of walking or light hiking. Dog parks are not pit of the question, depending on the dog's personality.
At home, I'm looking for the snuggle-bug who likes hanging out on my sofa with me.

Must get along with other dogs, particularly big dogs. We have a St. Bernard mix rescue that loves other dogs, but is fearful of strange people (we have him in classes). Also, must be good with children. Our kids are 12 and 14, but we sometimes have younger visitors.

We are willing to work through reactivity with a rescue, as we've had to work with our current dog, but only reactivity to people or dog reactivity as long as the corgi gets along well with our current dog.

We have a small fenced in yard and take our dog for walks each day as well.

Who is this dog for?

Our Family. We are looking to add on another fur child to our 2 children and one fur child.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love herding and working dog breeds in particular for their intelligence and personality. We have been around corgis and love their personality and big dog in a small package qualities. We have researched the breed and think it would be a good fit with our family and current dog. We are already used to a dog that barks when anyone approaches our house and likes to keep us all together on hikes.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hiking, runs, trips to the beach, road trips, camping, cuddle time, training, loving on him/her, maybe even some outfits if the dog enjoys that! We tend to take our current dog Sam everywhere with us and would plan on including our Pembroke as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We use positive reinforcement training, so for the most part, we would redirect and then praise/treat for them doing what we want.

Discipline:
I sometimes use a correction word. For nipping with puppies, I will give them a timeout in a crate. Beyond that, no discipline.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With us. My husband and I both work from home and our current dog, Sam, spends most of the day under our desks hanging out. When we go out, unless it's super hot out, our dog(s) come with us. Our dog(s) sleep in our bedroom with us, cuddling until he feels like jumping down onto his dog bed. We try to work in daily runs or walks to Lake Park. It's a pretty good life!

House dog

People at home during the day?
Our 2 kids, a son 14 and daughter 12.

Where would dog eat?
In the house. We feed our dog currently in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
We started our current dog in a crate, but he soon became a cuddler. We also keep a dog bed for when he doesn't feel like cuddling. I'm fairly certain our corgi would find a comfy spot either in bed with one of us or in a soft dog bed.

Play & exercise:
We go on runs an average of 3x per week and walks on the other days. We also like to go hiking when we can. When we can't go on a run or walk, playing ball or tug inside helps.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
It's a short fence, but our St. Bernard mix has not jumped it. There are places a small dog could get loose, so we'd need to keep a corgi on leash and an eye on it until we're confident it's not going to sneak off. We generally supervise all potty visits to the backyard and use walks and runs more for exercise, partially because the yard isn't very big.

Living arrangements:
Rent/lease home

Most of the backyard is pavement with a couple of flowerbeds with bark mulch. There is a garage, but we keep our truck outside the fenced part in the driveway.

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Karen Tunkel

Willing to train children?
Our kids are already familiar with dogs and help out with our dog's care, feeding, and training.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, we would first try training and once a pet is part of our family, they take priority over any newcomers. We only plan on having 2 dogs at any given time, so the only chance a newcomer would be added is if, heaven forbid, something were to happen to one of our dogs.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Who is this dog for?

I am 27 and looking to adopt a corgi. I do not have any pets that live with me.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I actually don’t have any experience with corgis. I used to have a beagle until she passed away this spring. I have done some research. I love that they’re not as vocal as say beagles and that they’re easy to get along with. Plus, they are adorable!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go for walks, snuggle on the couch, visit the dog park

It depends on what kind of mistake. Their are a lot of different situations that mistakes could happen. Especially the first few months of living together but the big thing is to be patient and show him/her where to go.

Go for walks, provide various toys, maybe play fetch, teach tricks, go to a dog park. Every night we’d do something for at least a couple hours. On days I wouldn’t be able to, I’d hire a dog walker or take them to a doggy camp for a few hours.

I retired young so I have a lot of time for a dog. I have had multiple pets at the same time and my animals have lived a long time. I am aware of the vet bills for end of life care. I lost my beagle/terrier in January 2017. I decided not to get another dog until the 16.5 year old cat left me since she was a fragile diabetic with heart/ kidney issues and litter box issues. I did not want to stress her. I lost her this past Good Friday.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
The size of the dog will be perfect for me. The personality of the pembroke seems to be quite cheerful and would fit in my lifestyle. I read that they need a gentle firm hand since they can take over the house and become the boss. The worst thing that a person can do a corgi is put him in the backyard or scold them harshly. I believe that a dog or cat is a member of the family and must be treated with honor and respect. The only experience I have with a corgi is a neighbor has one and he says that his dog is the best dog he ever owned. I have done research on the corgi. I read that some of the corgi's have the genetic disease DM, shed alot, and need to keep busy.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take the pembroke to dog parks, walk in the neighborhood, and hike in the woods.

My husband and I

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis are the best dogs on earth!!! In addition to having the cutest little faces, they are super loyal, adventurous, athletic and playful. They are stubborn and sassy and full of personality. They are highly illtelligent and eager to socialize with other people and pets! I can take my Corgi anywhere and she gets along with everyone!! From people to babies to bunnies, she is very sweet and motherly. Her herding behavior is comical to watch when my nieces and nephews come to visit. My husband and I are constantly entertained by our little blonde angel, named Saydi. I have done very extensive research on the breed and we are fully aware of their negative traits, such as insessant barking. After owning and loving a Corgi for the last 11 years, we can’t imagine our life without a Corgi in it forever.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, swimming and boat rides at the lake during the summer, playing fetch, visiting family and friends, car rides, doggy lattes, Corgi spa days, snuggling in the mornings and evenings.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the type of mistake. I would make the dog aware of right and wrong behavior by using training techniques. I would use stern commands to correct bad behavior and positive reinforcement to reward good behavior.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement, like rewarding good behavior with treats. For negative behavior, I would use stern commands and spend more time training the dog to listen to commands. Corgis are super stubborn, so discipline can be a bit challenging! I would also be willing to go to obedience classes, if necessary.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home, with my husband and I. I work part time, so my dog is only alone for a maximum of 4 hours at a time. On the weekends, we go to the lake, and we always take our Corgi with us. She has never been in a crate in her life!! When we go out of town, she stays with my brother in his home, with his wife, kids, and their dogs!

Yes, I work part time, between 8-16 hours per week. I work second shift and my husband works first shift – so our dog is never home alone for more than 4 hours.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen, on the tile floor. Or wherever they would prefer to eat! For some strange reason, my Corgi has always preferred to have her food bowl on carpet. So she eats on the rug in the living room, because the rest of our main living area is laminate flooring.

Where would dog sleep:
In a dog bed in our bedroom, or on a dog bed in the living room. Or on the couch, or in a human bed, wherever they prefer to sleep!

Daily walks, playing fetch in the backyard, playing with a basket full of toys inside, playing in the water at the lake, playing at their doggy cousins houses!

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My last girlfriend of 2 years has a Corgi named Ziggy. I became like a dog dad to her and spent a significant amount of time with Zigs. From traveling to just being couch potato's, we became inseparable. Truly the hardest part of the breakup was loosing Ziggy. I have had numerous dogs throughout my childhood and adult life and Ziggy had the most amazing personality out of any dog I have been around.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, dog parks, travel companion. I am highly interested in agility training and social dog events.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would use a stern and firm command of No! I would then for example if it was a potty mistake, take the dog outside. I would refrain from training the dog through fear and intimidation. Correct the mistakes as I can and reward the successes.

Discipline:
From my experience with past dogs. I would use similar techniques to raising a toddler. Use command words to stop unwanted acts. I would then take toys away, not be so affectionate while a mistake or incident has occurred. I would also like to learn more through formal obedience training.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
A mix between home with my retired father, with myself and doggy daycare a few times a week.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have no personal experiences with this breed, but have just come to really love the breed. After doing research on which dog breed I would personally love to own for me it came down to a Welsh Corgi. I know they are generally healthy energetic animals and would love having one as a positive reinforcement in my house with my family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Take it on walks, play with it in my backyard, bring it on road trips when i visit friends. Bring it to friends homes to have play dates with their dogs. Cuddle and watch TV with him/her.

Use my body language to show what they did was wrong by scolding. Address the mistake as soon as possible so the Pembroke will know their mistake. Because the mistake might happen again, keep reinforcing the discipline when they make the mistake until they know not to do what they did.

Discipline:
Time outs, using my voice to stop unwanted behavior, taking a toy away, avoiding their attention.

My significant other and myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
What is there not to love about corgis? From their cute stubby legs and big body, to their outgoing but yet independent personalities. We have done our research on the breed, and the corgi’s lifestyle is a perfect fit for ours. Elizabeth has always loved the idea of having a corgi being her favorite breed since she was little. She is also really great with animals in general. With our somewhat different schedules there would always be someone to be with the corgi and take care of him/her.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Whatever fits our corgi’s personality. If he/she needs lots of walks and play time, it will be provided to him/her. And when he/she just wants to relax and be loved, he/she will get a lot of attention. We are willing to adapt and give whatever level of physical activity our corgi needs.

Positive and negative reinforcement, no punishment. Punishment will increase bad behavior instead of helping the dog to learn and to become better.

Whatever is fit to his or her diet. Dry dog food such as blue buffalo where there is a healthier variety of dog food which fits my dogs needs. And wet food if needed or able to handle with their digestive system.

Where would dog sleep:
Where ever he or she wants to sleep. The dog will provided his/her own bed but would not object to having the dog in our bed.
