I really am looking for a younger Corgi as the two Cardigans I have now are in their teens and I do not want to go through the heartache of adding another senior to the mix.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Me | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My first dog that I owned on my own was Porter, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, also known as Northwynd's Fungo Get Fuzzy. We did OB, rally, tracking and herding together. He was my heart dog. I lost him tragically and mourned for him for a long time. It hurt too much to think of having another Pem. I had a Cardigan at the time and added another Cardigan. I am ready for another Pembroke and the breeder I really wanted to get another Pem from is likely not to have another litter.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Herding activities would be the top function. I would also be looking at Rally, Tracking, Barn Hunt and other activities to keep him/her active and bonding with me.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Depends on the situation–Usually I use a distraction noise (usually by voice Uh-uh) then redirect to more appropriate thing.
Discipline: |
Primarily use positive reinforcement–praise, treats.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In our house. Live with two sisters and with our schedules, there is almost always someone home with the dogs. Once we see how a new member to the household does, they have access to the house but we can barrier certain areas for them to earn the right to full house access.

||||||
|
House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes there is usually one person home during the day, sometimes two.
Where would dog eat? |
If crate trained, likely in its crate until we see how things work with other dogs in house. They eat in the kitchen area but separated in their own special areas for eating their meals.
Where would dog sleep: |
Again if crated trained, likely in their crate. Current Corgis–one likes to sleep in his crate or in front of it on his dog bed. My girl has a dog bed on my bed and sleeps with me. I would allow sleeping on the bed as long as they do not seem to have possessive tendencies. They would need to earn the trust to have bed privileges.
Play & exercise: |
We try and get out at least twice a day for walks as long as the weather is good. We do have a small fenced in yard but also have some areas we can go that allow them to run a bit. We do have some 'mind' games for indoor play when we are not able to get outside and run.
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
|
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.
Willing to use a crate? |
Chain link fence about 4 feet high, 2 gates. Area is approximately 30 x 15 feet.

Restrictive covenants? |
No, the condo covenants do not prevent me from having a dog.
Breed/size restrictions? |
No | ||||||
|
Description of yard: |
It is about 1/4 acre with small fenced in yard. No real fixtures otherwise. It is an elevated ranch style home and does require going up about 8 steps to get inside. Using a ramp on back stairs to help with older Corgis to get up and down.
Household members: |
|||||||
Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi? |
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
|
May we do a home visit? |
Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.
Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care? |
Colleen Maney–ME | ||||||
Willing to train children? |
We do not have any children but do have them for neighbors. We have worked with them when out with our Cardigans and would do so with any new member that comes into our home.
|
Any allergies? |
No one is allergic. | ||||||
Current pets: |
|||||||
|
Current pets dog friendly? |
Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.
Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
Yes–Twitch gives leeway to any dogs but will interact with them playfully if they are nice to him. He is older and does have some medical issues so he is not as active as he used to be.
|
Lifetime commitment to Pembroke? |
Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.
Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke? |
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.
|
Understand no guarantees? |
Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.
Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet? |
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I currently have a corgi mix. He is protective, loyal, fearless, and is full of joy. He is playful loving to fetch rubber toys and will do so for hours. He loves to walk as do I and is up for any activity at any time, as well as cuddling on the couch in the evenings. I enjoy working breeds as they are highly intelligent. I understand that corgis as any working breed need a job to do. Generally speaking an older dog would be better for me, as I am older and don't have the energy level I once had.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I like to walk with my dogs as well as play with them-whether it is a game of fetch or tug of war. I would also be willing to take my dog to agility classes if the dog enjoyed that activity.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I don't think dogs generally make mistakes. They may have behavioral quirks that need attention and training.
Discipline: |
I find that positive reinforcement works the best. For instance, if a dog rushes to the door to jump up on guests, I would leash the dog when I was expecting company, and make them sit before I opened the door. The dog would receive treats(food, toy or praise) when they sat quietly when someone came in. IF the dog tried to jump up, I would tell it "no" and put it back into a sit, and when it sat quietly it would receive whatever motivator worked best.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Inside, sleeping on the couch no doubt.

The dog would be out of the crate whenever I am home. I have a large fenced yard so it would have access to the yard when I am home. It would also have a play/pal with my corgi cross that loves to play. I also walk my dogs, Once the dog was well enough behaved to leave alone uncrated when I am not home that is what I would choose.

I can't accept a dog that is aggressive towards cats and other dogs. That's non negotiable. My cats are accepting of dogs though one would prefer not to have them around. Actually she would prefer not to have the other cat around either. Now that I think about it, she would probably happily dispense with me if she could figure out a way to keep her food bowl full. But she also isn't aggressive towards dogs.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself. | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have experience with a lot of dogs – I grew up with a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Golden Retriever. I also volunteered at the Dane county humane society. I love dogs with personality. I dog sat for a Corgi a few years ago and what I loved was how their personality was SO much bigger than their bodies. With a Bernese it makes sense that they have a big personality because they are huge. It fascinated me with a Corgi how they were so little but such a huge personality. I've research training and care for a Corgi, and other small dogs especially how it relates to apartment living.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
The three main thing would be walks, dog parks, and hanging out with my friends who also have (very nice!) dogs. I live very close to a nature preserve which would make for interesting walks. The Madison WI area is very dog friendly, and there are a number of dog parks to go to. I also am an avid photographer, so taking a companion along would be great.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
It depends. If it happens when I'm away there isn't much to do because they likely have no memory, or wouldn't be able to be trained from it. When I have worked with dogs in the past I use stern, firm, but not hostile commands to work with training dogs, and combined with treat rewards it works well
Discipline: |
Treat reward/repetition are the best ways I've found to train a dog to commands. Praise is, in my opinion, the best reward for house training a dog. Stern but not hostile "No" has worked the best for me in getting dogs to stop a negative behavior.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
My apartment, walks, dog parks, or friends' yards. If they like car rides, we can do that too.

No; I do however live very close to work and there are a number of different doggy daycares if I go that route.

Id have their bowls on the kitchen or dining room floor (those are the hard surface floors where I live – easier to clean).

I will either invest in a crate or purchase a dog mattress where they can sleep.
Play & exercise: |
I play on taking them out for daily walks, weather permitted of course, for at least a half hour a day, but more like a hour. Play can be done at home too, and while the weather is good I'd want to take them to a dog park or a friends fenced in yard at least once every other week.

Myself! | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have been around Pembrokes for a few years now with friends, family, and significant others and I am reaching the point where I would like a best friend. Obviously my experience is anecdotal but all of the Corgi's I have been around have been very friendly and social dogs.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Anything and everything that is dog appropriate! Walks, (short) hikes, running errands at dog friendly venues, outdoor social events, watching TV shows at home, visits to landmarks or other outdoor venues, road trips, ect!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Try to curb the behavior with positive reinforcement with the correct behavior (corgis are VERY food motivated!), if that does not work gentle negative reinforcement, mostly verbal, to let the dog know that it is not ok! Both always done right after the action happens.
Discipline: |
Being firm vocally with consistent rules, and using negative reinforcement without being physical with the dog. E.G. taking away privileges when behavior is not proper.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In my home, in a crate/pen during the workday if necessary, otherwise with free roam of the house.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Me. I adopted my Welsh Pembroke Corgi, Amber, in 2011 and she was 8 years old. I enjoyed her company and companionship for 7 years. I recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her to sleep as her abilities were declining and she was in pain in her hips and her back legs. She had stopped eating and I was carrying up and down stairs to keep her near me and taking her outside for her to pee, etc. I would love to adopt a white and tan Corgi. |
||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I love the Pembroke Welsh Corgi's Body shape and especially their personality. Loving and curious and eager to please.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
My method for training would revolve around positive reinforcement. So anytime the dog does what we are attempting to do, they would get a treat or something along those lines. For discipline, we will use the word "no". Depending on what the dog does, we would most likely crate them for a bit, bring them over to the mess they made and tell them no.
Discipline: |
N/a because I don't have a dog.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In our home. My husband and I work 9-5 jobs, so the dog would spend 9-5 at home with our cat. Other than that, we are active people and would take the dog for nightly walks, to our local dog park (just across the street), and out to play.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
The Pembroke will be for the both of applicants. We both share a house together.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We both love the breed very much. Cameron fell in love with Corgis from a TV show called Cowboy Beebop. Helen learn about Corgis from many different Youtubers. We have both researched why the breed would be perfect for us. Corgis are very friendly and intelligent dogs. The breed was one who could help us keep a high moral in our household and we felt from research that corgis help their humans emotions high and happy. Corgis are known for creating a great relationships with their human partners. We are also looking for a smaller dog which could also get along with other pets. We currently have a cat. We are both very passionate about corgis but we would like to rescue a corgi. Rescuing dogs are important to us. Corgis are often not at many animal shelters so we starting to research more about how we find rescue corgi. We felt that it was so perfect that we found LakeShore Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
It may sound silly but we are both so excited to get out Pembroke involved in Corgi days in different cities. We would like for our Pembroke to be social and we would enjoy taking him/her to the dog parks. We would like to take them on hikes. Many of our family and friends also have dogs and cats so there would be many pet play dates in the future.

We would handle the situation by being calm and collective. We would try to teach the pembroke the correct way by positive reinforcement.

It would be a combination of gentle and positive reinforcement. We feel like this would be the best way to disciple our dog. The gentle approach would help with the dog to create a connect with us. The positive reinforcement would encourage the dog to continue to learn and grow.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Cameron works the the 2/3rd shift so he would be able to spend time with the Pembroke during the day. Helen works often works during the day so she is able to spend time with the Pembroke at night. If there are times when the Pembroke is alone we lived by many family and friend member who would be willing to oversee our Pembroke.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
My 14-year-old daughter and I would like to adopt a Corgi. We own a house but are moving due to a job change and separation. We can provide a stable home in an apartment. We will be looking at a unit that accepts small dogs. We won't be ready to adopt until we are settled in our new apartment in August.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My daughter has her heart set on a corgi. She has high anxiety and would benefit greatly from a dog who she could love and play with. Corgis are small and playful and we think it would make a great pet.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We are both very laid back and rarely away from home unless we're going to softball games, to visit family, to the park, or on short road trips. We would bring our dog with us when away from home. It would be confined to a crate during the day for safety, and once it was used to the home and could be trusted, it would have free rein of the home from about 7:30-3:30 during the week.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
First of all, I would ensure I didn't make a mistake by placing it in harm's way or letting it be in a position it shouldn't be in. If it did something wrong, I would firmly say "No!" or make a "tskk tskk" sound for emphasis and remove it from the situation or immediately place it in the appropriate position and redirect it. I would use positive reinforcement to reward positive behavior. I would NOT put it in a crate as punishment, hit it, deny it food, or scare it.
Discipline: |
I use firm, consistent direction and positive reinforcement. I redirect quickly and gently. I would use formal behavior training if necessary. I might yell "No" or make a startling sound to help the dog associate bad behavior with a negative reaction, but I would not hit it, neglect it, or take away its basic needs.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our corgi would spend its time with us when home or on the road for softball games and practice or in a crate if not properly house trained. Once trained, it would be loose at home during working hours, from approximately 7:30-3:30.

No one will be home during the day.
Where would dog eat? |
The corgi would have food and water bowls in the kitchen and eat with us in the house.
Where would dog sleep: |
The corgi would have a dog bed on the floor, but would also be allowed to sleep in our beds AFTER it was house trained. Before then, it would sleep in a crate.
Play & exercise: |
My daughter and I will take it for walks and play outside during mild weather, otheriwse we'll play indoors. We would bring it with to softball practices and games at the park, where it would play with other children and dogs. We would bring it to the lake at Lake Ottowa, and find dog parks. We would also introduce it to both of my sisters' dogs. One has a maltese puppy and a yorkshire terrier. The other has a chihuahua who is very friendly. My estranged husband has a golden retriever who is also very friendly. If the two dogs react well together, they would be able to play as well.
