Who is this dog for?

Both my boyfriend and I.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My boyfriend and I have agreed on a Corgi due to its size and behavior. I am a HUGE dog lover, and have recently been diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. A family friend had three Corgis while I was growing up and they advised me that they were always extremely friendly to their children, guests, and other pets. Another one of my friends has one, as well, and she has told me that her corgi is an amazing companion. I will be registering my Corgi as an emotional support animal and I have been doing research on the best dog breeds for PTSD/Anxiety and all of my research leads me to Welsh Corgi's. I am looking for my new best friend and looking forward to helping each other grow and heal.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We will be moving to a new apartment in September, and the complex has two dog parks. I will enjoy many walks/jogs with my Corgi. I am excited for him to make new doggy friends at the dog parks, as well as any park we visit. I am also very excited to train and teach my Corgi new tricks and obedience. I believe that this will be very beneficial for the Corgi as well as myself because it will teach both of us to be more patient and confident. My boyfriend and I are more than ready for this new addition to our lives.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Mistakes happen, that's life. You cannot lose your temper whenever mistakes happen, especially when you own a dog. I believe that you can correct their behavior, but to always make sure they feel nurtured and loved.

Discipline:
I would like to use the words "Leave it" instead of "No". We'll have to just see how he responds to everything but my boyfriend and I will remain consistent in our disciple so that he does not get mixed signals and avoid confusion. With my experience with dogs, I have learned that a stern tone of voice can do the trick most times.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
He will be crated while my boyfriend and I are at work – from 8-4:30 M-F. He will have free range of the apartment at all other times, though.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No, not during the weekdays.

Where would dog eat?
We would probably keep his food and water bowls in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
We plan on purchasing a dog bed and he will also be allowed on all furniture, so he would have access to our bed and our couches, as well.

Play & exercise:
I plan on taking him on at least two substantial walks/hikes a week. But, besides those, he will be unleashed in the dog parks where he would be able to run around and play with other dogs. I will also have many toys for him and hopefully he will enjoy a tug-toy because my dogs growing up LOVED them and we would have some intense tug-toy playing.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

We previously had a black tri corgi girl who passed away from hemangiosarcoma a couple of months ago. We would prefer another black tri female if possible but understand if that's not possible and are open to other possibilities. I don't want a puppy but would like a younger adult dog if possible.

Who is this dog for?

Myself (Jamie) and my husband (Jonathan).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I previously had a black tri female pem, Lily. She was a rescue, we had her from age 2 to age 9. She was an absolutely wonderful girl. She passed away about 2 months ago from hemangiosarcoma (canine cancer). I miss her a lot and I'd love to have another pem in my life. We had so many wonderful times with Lily and I'd like to start making new memories with a new corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking every day (we live very close to a large fenced-in dog park) and sometimes hiking on the weekends. Riding in the kayak (my previous pem Lily loved riding in the kayak and looking at ducks – she always wore her life vest). And attending dog-friendly events such as the Wisconsin corgi picnic.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Training using positive reinforcement. I know from experience that pems tend to be very treat-oriented!

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement for good behavior and telling them "No" when doing something they shouldn't.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My husband works first shift and I work second shift, so the dog would spend most of their time with someone at home and very little crate time. I leave for work at 1 PM and my husband arrives home at 4 so there would only be 3 hours per day where one of us isn't home.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, as stated above, I work at 1 PM and my husband arrives home at 4 PM, so the dog would only be crated for 3 hours during the time that our shifts overlap. Other than those 3 hours, one of us would be home with the dog.

Where would dog eat?
My previous corgi ate Canidae Life Stages kibble. That seemed to be a good quality food and I would feed another dog that brand of kibble.

Where would dog sleep:
Our previous corgi was crate trained and always slept in her crate. I would prefer to crate train my next dog as well, so they would sleep in a crate.

Play & exercise:
I live one block away from Quann dog park in Madison WI which is a very large fenced-in dog park. We took our previous corgi Lily there regularly, every day until she got her cancer diagnosis (her energy level dropped a lot after her diagnosis). I would plan to take a corgi to the dog park every day for exercise and socialization.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Description of yard:

My husband and I own a house with a small front and back yard in Madison WI. No swimming pool. We have fences on 2 sides of the yard. As previously stated, we live one block away from a large fenced-in dog park, so although our yard is not fenced, we do have access to a fenced dog park very close to our house. We also live right next to a bicycle/pedestrian path for walks on-leash.

Willing to train children?
We do not have children and are not interested in having children.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
My previous corgi did not go up on the furniture, and we also have a cat-only room with a baby gate that has a door that the cat can fit through but which an adult corgi would be too large to fit through. That room holds the cat's food and litterbox. The cat can go to that room if she is feeling stressed by the dog. My previous corgi also did not go up on the furniture, so the cat could climb to the back of the couch or other area that the dog wasn't allowed on. My cat did not love my previous corgi, but tolerated her.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Firmly and confidently state, "No!", then lead him to the door, take him outside, let him finish his business, then reward him for doing his duty outside. Clean up the mess really good. Repeat until they are trained to go outside.

Discipline:
Saying, "No!" loudly and firmly usually stops them, if more is needed then a timeout in it's pen or put them on it's leash outside for a few minutes, weather permitting. A spray bottle works too, unless they love water. Shaking a pill bottle near them definitely stops bad behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With my son and I at home, or in the car on the road with us wherever we go.

Who is this dog for?

Myself and my partner, Ryan Japs.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the personality types that the breed offers! The typical size of a corgi also suits my apartment lifestyle better than a larger breed. My partner has dog-sitted for a couple with corgis, and he fell in love with their companion.

I have personally lived with dogs my whole life, so they've always been apart of my life. Now that I have my own stable living situation/place, I'm looking for a dog to build my family!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lots of walks in the park, hanging out on pet-friendly patios, some snuggle time on the couch, and some tug-of-war play time!

People at home during the day?
The longest the Pembroke would be alone (kenneled depending on behavior/training) would be for 5-6 hours. My partner finishes work around 1pm every day, and would take the Pembroke out for a walk upon arriving home.

Where would dog eat?
Our corgi would eat at our apartment, in our kitchen/dining area.

Where would dog sleep:
Our corgi would sleep (kennel if behavior needs training, no kennel if comfortable on its own) in our bedroom or living room.

Play & exercise:
We live right next to a park, have access to a fenced yard, and can offer in-apartment toys for play time and walks-a-plenty!

I live and work in a residence hall on Central Michigan University’s campus. I am looking for a pembroke that does not or will not exceed 25-30 pounds. This is the biggest size that I am allowed to have in my apartment.

I am looking for a match (pembroke) that would be okay with seeing lots of people as each time I would take them outside we would pass by a lobby area or main hub that has lots of college age students. I wouldn’t be able to have a fenced in space outdoors, but the plan is to take long or short walks around campus. Also, to visit the multiple dog parks in the greater Mt. Pleasant area.

Who is this dog for?

Myself – I live alone.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have a friend that is in love with her Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I met her dog a few years back while I was finishing up graduate school and always told myself that one day I would get one of my own. My friend now volunteers for the Corgi Connection of Kansas and fosters corgis regularly. I wish that I lived closer (I moved back to Michigan) because she is constantly posting pictures of her corgis and the fun they are having together. This is the only real experience I have had with a Pembroke. I see the intellect these dogs have as they are quick witted. But, also the feel good, playful nature that they bring their owners.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take them for walks and to the dog parks in town. I have the luxury of working and living in a location that has other people around constantly. I would bring my Pembroke to local events happening in town and on CMU’s campus. My Pembroke would meet lots of faculty, staff and students – would be loved by many.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I honestly have never owned a dog before and my family did have any dogs while I was growing up. I would need assistance in this area and would reach out to friends/extended family to give me guidance. If you all believe that my Pembroke needs obedience classes then I would register them as it would mutually beneficial for us both.

I am a pretty relaxed individual and would not fault the dog for making a mistake. They happen and we would be learning together to find our ebb and flow for what works.

Discipline:
I honestly haven’t ever had to discipline a dog. I have seen others do it, however I would need to research and ask others what the best methods would be for a Pembroke.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In my apartment during the hours of 9am-5pm(M-F).

I would be able to check on my Pembroke quite regularly as my office is located in the same complex as my apartment. (15 second walk) I would be able to check on my Pembroke every 2 hours (or less) and take them outside or for a walk (especially during my lunch hour).

After 5pm, we would go outside or to an event happening on campus. They would be with me and go wherever I go.
