Strong verbal reprimands; motivate with treats (learned too late how extremely food motivated our previous PWC was).
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |

|
Who is this dog for? |
This Pembroke is for me. Recently I had to have Eliza, (the Amazing Wonderdog) euthanized. What i had thought was arthritis was spinal myelopathy. She was also being treated for Cushings disease by a local vet with frequent consultations of a veterinary endocrinologist. At 9 1/2, under treatment for the disorder for 2 years, she was doing well. With the Cushing's diagnosis I promised both of us I would do everything I could do to maintain her health and that I would not let her suffer. Eliza was my companion and service dog for my hearing loss. She was interesting, frustrating, and sometimes even sweet. Every day she made me laugh. I'm looking for my next dog. I would LOVE if that could be a corgi! They are so smart, clever, sassy, curious, bossy, and did I mention cute? Lying on their backs with their tongues lolling, staring down their noses at you when you won't share your chips. I have never not had a dog that I didn't love, but neither have ever had a dog I loved like I loved my corgi. I have looked at puppies on line, but felt this time I wanted to rescue a corgi someone else didn't want. I worked with an excellent dog psychologist/ trainer/ vet tech with Eliza because she was very bitey. This trainer also worked with us to certify her as a service dog. She flew cross country with me when I visited West Coast family and she was all business except for a lapse in Chili's when there were crumbs on the floor. I would expect to work this trainer again. Although it is down now, I will have my PetSafe in-ground fence replaced for my new dog. He or she will have walks, and a large fenced area. I would like you to consider me for one of your rescued corgis. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
It depends on the mistake. I would get its attention by tossing a few training treats with the command 'find it!" Then i would repeat the command or lesson rewarding positive response.

Repeat the command, wait for response–reward Turn my back, refuse to play Try to keep need to discipline minimal |

Who is this dog for? |

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We love corgis. We have had 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis as members of our family. First, we raised, trained, and loved a corgi puppy. He was smart, observant, active, stubborn, loving, fun, snuggly, and always thinking he was in charge. He passed away at age 12. Then we adopted a stray rescued corgi. He was about 3 years old when he came into our family. He was all the things that we knew from our first corgi, but a little quieter and not quite as smart. He passed away at about age 13. They were both beautiful dogs with sparkling eyes and big smiles. We miss each of them and can't wait for the opportunity to experience the fun and love of a corgi again. Before we got our first corgi, we definitely researched the breed and followed the corgi rule that "if you don't give a corgi something to do, he/she will pick something . . . . and it might not be something you like" so teach, practice, use positive reinforcement, loved, enjoy, and be their alpha.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We have enjoyed walking, retrieving balls, catching balls, obedience classes, practicing commands and skills, socializing with other people and dogs that we are comfortable with. We have taken our corgis to new places – beaches, parks, new towns. Grooming, petting, and snuggling are also important to us and them.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
We would hope to have an idea if the dog would be a mistake before we take him/her home. If we run into troubles when we are working on our routines for normal life, we would work with a trainer and practice at home using established commands and positive reinforcement. If we continue to have problems, we would contact you to review the possibilities.
Discipline: |
We practice commands with consistent use of words and hand signals. We use positive reinforcement with voice and rewards, usually a treat.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our dogs spend most of their time in the house, wherever we are. They also have a quiet sleeping spot in a crate where they can go for time away (although I don't remember our dogs needed time away.) We usually take them outside with us when we are working or spending time in the yard, when it is not too hot or cold. We walk with our dogs in the neighborhood most often, but also go other places for a longer walk. We have never left them outside alone.

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
They have quite the personalities which I love, they herd which I've owned a cattle dog so I'm aware the attention a herding bred needs, I own my own house and 3 acres my parents have a 5 acres of field next to me so lots of room for exercise. I love the appearance of corgis along with their intelligence.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Interrupt the behavior with a loud noise, or a uh uh is the most common that I use. They may spend a little time in a kennel for certain things my rat terrier likes to get into the garbage so she spends a little time in a crate and usually is good for a little while after.
Discipline: |
Crate time, swat on the butt, with my girls I just have to look at them a certain way and they know they've done wrong.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Free roam of the house. Depends on the day I have a 4 on 4 off schedule so on my 4 off I'm usually outside.

I have been researching the PWC for about 5 years. Our dog of 15 years just died this past Friday. I have been telling my family that I wanted a Corgi for several years. They are so cute, smart, great size for our family. I love training, walking and the companionship of a dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Well that isn't a clear answer. There are different kinds of mistakes that would warrant different responses. I have trained several dogs, I started as a child taking our poodles in 4-H, I took two to the state fair as a child. When I became an adult my husband and I trained and loved Rottweilers and I did the obedience training and he did the confirmation. I put Titles on both dogs and Companion Dog Certifications on both. It is crucial to train a dog in order for them to know what you expect. They deserve that.
Discipline: |
Method? I am not sure what you mean by method. When an animal does something that you have ask them to do the deserve a reward wether it is a good dog, a pet or a treat. They deserve correction with your voice or change of their attention or what is needed as well.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Our Family | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We want a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because we want to give our dog a companion. We have been doing research off and on the past few months and we came across this breed. Pembroke Welsh Corgi's are everything we want in a dog. We love that they are a smaller sized breed that is very loyal. We once had our dog play with a corgi and they did very well together and we very much enjoyed having that breed in our house for a few hours and it seemed to enjoy its time here too. We have been doing our research to make sure we have the right dog for our house.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We would take walks with our Pembroke. In addition we would also let our Pembroke play outside with our other dog. We would make sure the Pembroke is very loved and happy no matter when the situation is.
