Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always been drawn to Corgis because of their size and they seem to be smart and loyal. I've had no experience with them. I know that Queen Elizabeth has had corgis and I admire that she had so many. They must be wonderful to have as a pet.

I like to walk so that would be something we could do together.

Who is this dog for?

This would be for the both of us.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We've both always loved Corgis, they are such an adorable breed. We've done a lot of research on the breed and feel like they're a perfect fit for us and our lives. First and foremost, they're small in size, but big in personality. We're recent-graduates who will be apartment living for a couple years until we can afford a home/condo. The smaller size of a Corgi would be a better fit for that environment.

We're young and don't have any kids, some of the heel-nipping/herding instincts corgis have would be mitigated in our environment. We've also read/heard they can be energetic, we love to get outdoors and explore. Our family has a second home in Wisconsin which we visit every other weekend for camping/hiking etc.

We think their intelligence, big personality, cute size and notability as a family dog make them a good match for us as dog parents.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Outside of daily walks, we plan daily play with the corgi in our home as well. As mentioned above, we love the outdoors and hiking. Being in Chicago there's lots of great opportunities to go out, like walks on the beach, the various trails around the city and burbs. We also have a second family home we can visit on weekends for some real outdoor action.

In our off-time we like to hang around the house and watch movies/shows, play video games. We're hopeful our pup would relax with us in the off-time as well. We're both fortunate to work from home several days a week, which means we'll be around during work as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We believe in non-violent discipline for our pets. Much of my family have dogs and have success with non-violent discipline. We would employ things like negative tone/language if he/she makes a mistake. We could do things like taking away toys, or limiting favorite activities. The trick is connecting a negative consequence with negative behavior, without doing something that would harm the dog and your relationship with it.

Discipline:
As stated above, non-violent discipline. My aunt keeps track of her dog's favorite things/activities and takes those away in moderation if her dog misbehaves. At the time of the negative behavior, using a negative tone/negative language to signal the mistake to the dog. Not showing attention to the dog when they make a mistake to reinforce that behavior as negative.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Likely indoors with us, we do not have a backyard in our current apartment. We're pretty open to letting the dog around our apartment, we currently have a pretty spacious 2-bedroom. We will likely avoid crating the dog unless necessary.

People at home during the day?
We are both fortunate to work from home several days a week. I personally can work from home whenever I like, typically this is 3-4 days a week. Melisa works from home 2 days a week currently, Tuesdays and Fridays. Around holidays/slow periods at work, we sometimes work completely remotely. We are both home all weekend.

Where would dog eat?
The corgi would eat with us in our home, we'd likely set up a place in the kitchen or dining room where they can have their food/water.

Where would dog sleep:
We will get a bed for our corgi, and likely set it up at the foot of our bed nearby. If they wanted to snuggle up with us at night, I don't think either of us would complain.

Play & exercise:
We plan on keeping the apartment well-stocked with doggie toys. In off-hours we can definitely play with the dog around the house. Outside of this, there's a park down the street from our apartment. We also both drive and there are plenty of places around the city we can take our dog for some outside fun.

We would aim to take our dog out multiple times a day for exercise and certainly play around the house outside of that.

Who is this dog for?

My husband and I are interested in a Corgi. We lost our Lab in January to cancer and we are starting to feel ready to rescue another dog. We have two cats and no kids.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are looking for an affectionate, goofy dog, which seem to be traits of Corgis. My husband's best friend has a Corgi (though I am not sure he is purebred), and we really enjoy spending time with him. He likes to play for a bit and then come sit at our feet. Of course their cuteness plays into the equation! I am short with short legs and always say I relate to Corgis.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a 6' fenced backyard and spend a lot of time outside. If our dog likes to play fetch, chase bunnies or squirrels, just hang out and enjoy the day – we've got that covered! Also going for regular walks. My in-laws have two golden retrievers that we could visit for playtime.

My husband and I both work full-time. However, he works close by and comes home every day for lunch.

Where would dog eat?
We have food and water bowls in the kitchen, as well a water bowl in our upstairs bathroom.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever he or she wants! We are fine with dogs sleeping on the bed, but if it is difficult for the dog to get on/off, we would get a dog bed for the bedroom.

Play & exercise:
I am a firm believer that dogs need exercise every day, and that it is a major factor in behavior (a tired dog is a good dog!) We would play in the yard or take a walk every day.

Who is this dog for?

Mainly myself and girlfriend of almost 5 years.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Their inelegance and size are what drew me to them. One of my neighbors back in the day had a Cardigan Welsh Corgi that we took on walks. She had a huge personality and was somewhat independent but very loyal. I like those aspects. I have tried to do some research about the difference between the two and haven't really found anything other than their history.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I run regularly so I would be taking the dog for runs. We used to dog sit a lot and have a few dog parks around town that we visit.

Who is this dog for?

Max Kramer, companion/emotional support

Why do you want a Pembroke?
They are listed as a fantastic emotional support/companion breed, they are a great build for air travel which is play primary method of travel, and every corgi I have met through training my dog (parent owned, raised and trained by myself) was a lovely disposition. I have done breed research regarding potential health issues and activity requirements.

Walks, obedience classes, potential therapy dog training, socializing with people/other dogs

Who is this dog for?

Tara. She would like a companion for Clyde, a 4 year old rescue from the local shelter, and Ella, a 13 year old Newfie. Clyde has a lot of playful energy and Ella is winding down and has mobility issues. Tara is used to having 3 dogs, having just lost FeeBee, a 15 ½ year old Shi Tzu in January.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love how full of personality they are and full of playfulness. I have always loved corgis and the way they are clownish. I know they can be full of energy at times, shed a lot, and are a big dog in a little dog’s body. I have had a lot of big dogs and now am graviating to littler ones, but a corgi is more manageable for me (I have chronic pain). A corgi will bring the playful energy into our home that Clyde needs, as Ella is an ancient Newf. Ella cannot and should not be physically active due to her hip and knee pain and mobility problems.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
The first thing I will do is get him or her into some training so we can bond. I know that corgis are smart and can be bossy so it’s important that he or she know who is boss (me) and that we have some communication. I believe in reward oriented training and have 2 wonderful trainers that we have used with Clyde in the past. Our corgi would go to the park, on walks, on day trips to beach towns, and to the store (when possible). Given the right personality, I would also consider therapy dog training.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on the “mistake”. If it chews up my couch, I would try to figure out why. If I catch a dog in the act of doing something bad, I yell “No!” Like when Clyde gets into my garden. If the “mistake” is peeing in the house, you can only correct them if you catch them in the act. You get a lot of mileage from praise when they do good and just have to watch them a lot to catch the bad behavior.

Discipline:
I yell NO. If a dog is very naughty, they go to the laundry room which is on the first floor of our house. I use it as a time out. As I have gotten older and wiser with my dogs I do not find it necessary to hit a dog, as was shown to me by my parents with my childhood dogs.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes. I do not have a job outside the home right now and have been a stay at home mom for over 20 years.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen or dining room. Initially away from the other two dogs.

Where would dog sleep:
If house trained, the corgi would sleep wherever he or she liked.

Play & exercise:
Daily walkies and playing outside and inside with Clyde. We have an invisible fence as our subdivision doesn’t allow us to have a physical fence, but even so the dogs are never outside by themselves, they are always being watched. I take Clyde out in the backyard and play fetch and he likes to sit outside with me as I garden. We go on nature hikes too.

Description of yard:

We have neighbors on either side but not behind us, as our property abuts a natural, undevelopable area, with deer, a marsh, lots of squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. We cannot have a physical fence but we have an invisible one for the dogs. We have flower gardens in front and back and a lot of trees for summer shade.

Willing to train children?
My children are adults. I am careful with my dogs and little children because not everyone is gentle with dogs or comfortable with dogs. This is why I like taking the dogs into the community with us when we can do it right, to get people comfortable with them.

Who is this dog for?

Me

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love Corgis. All Corgis. I had a sweet little girl about 30 years ago. She was my best friend. She died of old age, my children grew older and I went back to work. I was able to adopt a 3/4 Corgi 1/4 Aust Cattle dog 12 years ago. She is now almost 14. She has the stubborn ness of a Corgi. So funny.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Nena and I walk every day. We have a very large church near us with a three acre meadow behind. They allow me to take her back there to play. I am the only one that does so no worry of other dogs. I have a FB friend that runs Corgi agility in Illinois and we have a kennel here that does also. She would also travel with us.

I move to the level of her little face and sternly say NO.

No physical methods ever. Nena was very fearful when we brought her home. Very afraid of feet. If she had an accident in the house I would say OH NO. Clean it up and give her a cuddle. No accidents after her first six months.
