We are willing to give the dog the sort of lifestyle it needs. Generally, I am quite active and enjoy being outdoors. I believe one of the best ways to train any dog is to give it activities that it was bred to do. Thus with Pembroke, I plan to do herding training!

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
The pembroke would be a companion for both me and Autumn (fiancee).
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My fiancee and I starting becoming very fascinated with Pembroke Welsh Corgis because of the anime Cowboy Bebop. We think they are just so cute and would fit with our lifestyle. We both have limited experience with the breed besides light reading; however, I am very excited to learn more about the breed and am planning to read books/articles about this specific breed.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
As mentioned before, I would adjust the activities based on the Pembroke's personality; however, I would definitely like to engage the dog in something it was bred to do, such as herding training. Another option would be dog agility, which I was just introduced to recently by a friend! Otherwise, I would generally just like to take the dog on my outdoor adventures to forest preserves, walks, and roller blading (given it can keep up). I also have experience in training, as I often volunteer at a shelter training new dogs; thus I would do numerous training activities with the dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I would handle it with patience, and try to understand the mistake. Positive punishment, especially with a new dog is not always the answer to a problem. After understanding the reason, I would work on training to help it not make the mistake again, given the mistake is trainable.
Discipline: |
As having trained huskies in the past, I generally try to establish a pack mentality, making myself the alpha; however, Pembrokes are not huskies and may require a different kind of environment. Negative punishment is often something that I find works well with dogs in the shelter, but every dog is different and requires differentm methods.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Hopefully outside doing fun things! It really depends on the personality of the Pembroke. My fiancee would definitely be willing to spend lots of time with the dog inside the apartment, if thats what met its needs.

Generally, yes. The dog would spend at most 4 hours during a week day alone during a school semester.

Where would dog sleep: |
Depends on where it wants to! I would have a small cage for it, left open in case it would prefer a small den rather than sleeping elsewhere.
Play & exercise: |
I would bring it outside frequently. Chicago has many parks and I frequent them, so I would brink the Pembroke with me to play. There are also nearby dog parks, which would be a good opportunity for some association with other dogs!

Since they all were rescues, they came with fear of squirt gun or fly swatter. So I would wave that. That is all I have ever had to do.

With me! As long as it is not too hot or too cold in the car, they go with me. I don't work any more so they will _not_ be left alone for 8-10 hours a day.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
It is for my husband and me.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My husband and I both love the Corgi breed, we both have best friends that have corgis. One of my closest friends has had one for 11 years now. She brings him with when we get together. We take him on long walks and even hikes with us, and he is great. He is very laid back, and is okay being on his own during the day if they are gone for longer days. We have another friend who got a corgi puppy about 3 years ago. We have watched him grow, and be trained. We enjoy playing with him when we are at their home. They are adorable of course, and loyal. My husband and I are very active people, and would enjoy walks with him and taking him to dog parks.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We have large back and front yards which would play around with him in, let him run, and play fetch (if the dog does). We would take the dog to dog parks- given it interacts well with other dogs. We would definitely walk it, and I would most likely run with it too. I like to hike with my sister and her dog, so we would take him on trails year round.

We would definitely use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior, but if we needed to discipline we would use a stern voice, take toys away, or maybe put them in a kennel for a short while to isolate them as punishment. I`ve also read that using another command can distract the dog from what it was doing wrong, such as telling it to sit.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Mostly inside at our home. Again, we have a nice yard so he would also have access to that often.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
This Pembroke is for myself.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have always been a fan of the breed before the trends began,, starting from a childhood fascination with the Queen of England. I grew up in a family who always adopted mixed dogs and I part-time dog-sat a Pembroke Welsh Corgi during my high school and college years. I love that corgis are independent but loyal, similar to myself. They're a smaller dog but still active, sturdy, and hard-workers, which is something I need as a jogging buddy and love to train my dogs.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I've recently run a half marathon and keep up with jogging for 5K's otherwise, for which I would love for my corgi to join me. I also live near the lake shore and dog parks, where they have agility equipment set up, and I would like to work with my corgi to play fetch and train.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I'm a big fan of positive reinforcement, so if the Pembroke pees in the house, for example, I would clean it up and not give the pup any attention for it – no eye contact, speaking, nothing. Then I would take the corgi out to pee outside and make a HUGE deal over how amazing they are (because I know Pembrokes love attention) and continue this pattern. I also would make sure any reinforcement was immediate, as to not to confuse the Pembroke for a behavior they did an hour or so ago.
Discipline: |
Positive reinforcement, consistent command words to avoid confusion, sound association (whistles, click).
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
The majority of the time would be spent inside aside from walks and park time.

Where would dog eat? |
In the house off of the kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
In my bedroom on a dog bed (or let's be honest, probably in my bed)
Play & exercise: |
I walk every day and run every other day, so it's consistent. With a dog, I would add an additional walk in the evenings and bring the dog with me to parks and outdoor events on the weekends. Average play / exercise time per day will be about 2-3 hours per weekday and 3-4 on weekends.

|
Who is this dog for? |
Mainly for my wife and I, since my kids are out of the house
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We lost our Welsh Corgi that we had for 14 years. She passed away in October of last year. She was a intimate part of family (We pretty much didn't have a choice 🙂 ). I've had several different breeds of dogs through out my life, but I've never been so attached to a dog as I was with our Corgi. It has taken this long to actually start to get over the loss. I love how intelligent, loving, and energetic Corgi's are. One of our nicknames for ours was "Forever Puppy". I'm actually getting choked up writing this. I would love to have another one. I'm hoping to be able to adopt one.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Catch, Chase (loved playing chase with our previous one. She would turbo around our basement at full speed while I tried to grab her…I never could), walks, and bike rides. I found bike rides were the only way to tire her. Their energy seems boundless.

We like to walk at parks, take dog to pet friendly places & events & so this dog needs to be comfortable in various situations & around other dogs it may encounter. We would actually like to adopt 2, a bonded pair would be ideal.

Who is this dog for? |

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have had 5 PWCs in the past & have loved each one. We are very familiar with the breed, their activity level & amount of attention they require. They are so full of personality they fill up a house with fun, happiness & love. Here is a brief description of each of our previous dogs: 1, Buck, PWC Bred by my brother & his wife. Had him from puppy to death at age 10. Lymphoma. Great companion for our young son. First dog we owned as adults. 2. Rocky, PWC. Bought from backyard breeder newspaper ads. Had him from puppy to death, age 9. Congestive Heart Failure. His nickname was Psycho Dog. We did not socialize or train properly, and his behavior reflected that. Have learned much since then. 3. Roxie, PWC. Adopted from backyard shelter I found on petfinder. Had her only 9 months. She had been used as a breeder until her last litter all died. She tested positive for heartworm at our initial vet visit. We underwent the treatment for her, but there was too much damage already. She died from Congestive Heart Failure. 4. Lady, PWC. Adopted thru Lakeshore PWC Rescue in 2011. Had her from age 4 thru 12, passed away Dec 2017, from inflammation of the brain, GME or GRE (can't remember which). She was a wonderful dog & we miss her terribly. She went everywhere with us, weekly farmers market, parks all over town, traveled to Oregon & Florida. She was shared heavily on Facebook & had friends & fans all over the country, some of whom we met while traveling & attending Corgi get-togethers. 5. Sadie, PWC. Adopted from friends who rescued her from Craigslist ad in Tenn. She had been a breeder & had 3-4 litters when we got her, age 4. Had her just under 1 year, she died from Lymphoma. We had her & Lady at the same time & really enjoyed having 2. We would like to get 2 again now. |
