|
Who is this dog for? |
It is for me (Sarah) my twin sister recently passed away and I think a dog would be helpful and therapeutic for me.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I believe they are my spirit animal. They are energetic and sweet. I love their perky ears and how it looks like they're always smiling. I want someone I can take out and run round around with and play with. They are so excited about life and naturally happy. It would definitely lift my spirits to have a dog and its unconditional love. They can cuddle or be excited fun. I like that they can be both.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I will prepared and understand that accidents are bound to happen. I will never scream or hit the dog for accidents. I will mainly train using a reward based system with treats and praise positive actions. (But not too many treats and plenty of exercise. An obese dog is not a healthy one.) I want to prevent and correct as much as possible, I know its just a mistake.
Discipline: |
I mostly plan on being prepared. Taking them out often, picking a bathroom place out and goes their every time they need to go potty. If needed I would block off a space (the kitchen) so if there are any accidents when I cannot supervise clean up will be easier. If I catch him or her in the act I will make a loud noise (clapping) or get their attention and either take them outside or put them in the kitchen for a bit.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
My family. Myself, my husband, daughter (age 4) daughter (age 3 months), Chihuahua (age 11)
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
What first attracted me to the Corgi was that it looks identical to my German Shepard/husky mix dog that passed away, only shorter. I like their smaller size and that they are energetic. I have done research on the breed online.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I have a two acre lawn, the activities would include playing in the yard with the kids, going for walks, playing fetch. We also have a farm down the road, if the Corgi enjoyed going there I would take them to walk and play there as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If it went to the bathroom on the floor I would point at it say "No" and put it outside or take it outside. I would be consistent in telling it No when bad behavior took place and try to teach it the correct way to behave. I would also utilize putting it in its kennel for some time ( less than an hour) if the behavior continued.
Discipline: |
Stern voice and face. Loud verbal commands. Time out in its kennel.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
I am looking for an inside dog so it would be in my home all day. If it could not be trusted alone I would have to put in a kennel if we left. I have a large kennel that I used with my German Shepard that is inside. While my husband and I are at work the kids are home with a baby sitter so the dog would not be alone much.

Yes. The whole family is home on the weekends and the kids and babysitter are home during the day.
Where would dog eat? |
The bowl and water dish would be in the kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
I would have a dog bed near my own bed. If the dog happened to be destructive during the night there would be a dog bed in the kennel.
Play & exercise: |
We have a large yard where it could run and exercise daily. In nice weather it could be taken out on a leash for walks with me as well. We also have two sets of stairs in our home. Our yard is not fenced in but it is about an acre and a half and it is surrounded by corn fields. If there became a problem with the dog leaving the yard I would look into underground fencing rather than a full fence due to the size.

Our main consideration is that we have two cats that the corgi would be living with. Ideally, we would like to have a younger corgi so they could get used to the cats or a corgi that has had a history of living with cats without any problems. The cats would never attack a dog and have been around other dogs, but our concern would be the dog being able to adjust to the cats.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Hello, we have been hoping to rescue a corgi for some time if the opportunity ever came up. We love corgi's but only rescue animals, when we saw your website we thought we would give it a shot. The corgi is for myself, Lucy, and long-term partner Nathan.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We've never personally owned a Corgi, but we have taken care of many dogs in our lives and currently care for our cats. We've spent a fair amount of time researching the breed and are aware of pros and cons of the breed. We love all dogs but Corgis have a special place in our hearts; we think they are absolutely adorable with their spunk and variations in personality. Our most recent experience was a Corgis in the park event.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We would take our Corgi on walks to our college campus and to the dog park at our apartment complex primarily. We would also take them to the lake our family owns, and introduce him to our family members dogs (the Corgi would have 6 canine buddies in total). We would also play with the Corgi and our cats as much as possible so they would become as friendly as they are with us. One of our cats is very social and likes to play with other animals so an additional playmate would be excellent for her. We love going on long walks and hiking and having a furry friend that enjoys nature would be lovely. We have a very large apartment, in addition to the dog park outside the building, the a Corgi would have lots of room to play.

If the Corgi makes a mistake, we would be understanding of the fact that it may not understand that it made a mistake. We would only use discipline as a last resort, as described below, but we would always forgive the Corgi and praise he or she when it does something well.
Discipline: |
We would never do anything that would be against our dogs best interests. If the dog did something bad, such as destroying something, going to the bathroom in the house, etc., we would scold it by saying "No" but that would be the extent of our discipline. We would never yell at the dog or do anything to hurt it, the goal is to let it know it did something it shouldn't and reward the dog when it does something well with treats and praise.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
The Corgi would spend most of the day in the apartment, aside from going for walks outside, and playing in the dog park. We would ensure that he or she would get exercise each day. He or she would never be short of time for playing and relaxing with us.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
One of us is usually always at home during the day as we have very little overlap with our work schedules. If we had an adopted Corgi, we would make it a point to be sure that one of us was there or close enough to take them outside so there would be no stress on the Corgi. Nathan is normally home during the day, while I am home in the morning and at night while he is at work.
Where would dog eat? |
The Corgi would eat in the apartment. He or she would have their own food dish sets near the kitchen.
Where would dog sleep: |
The Corgi could sleep anywhere in the apartment.
Play & exercise: |
The Corgi would have any opportunities for play and exercise. As I mentioned, we have a dog park right outside our building that's open 24/7. He or she would not have to be on a leash in this, it is fenced in and high enough that it could not jump out. We would take the Corgi for walks and ensure he or she gets exercise or play everyday. We would also play with the Corgi inside with toys. While we do not have a yard, this dog park is right outside the building and is fenced in.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Our family. We have one other rescue dog, a Shitzhu named Bella. We have always had dogs. We lost our Bassethound to cancer a couple of years ago and have really missed having a second dog.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have been familiar with the breed since my sister in law has had 3 of them. They have always been great family dogs. They can be head strong, but we have had hounds so we understand. I have done some research on the breed and nothing was a game changer. All dogs have personalities like people and some are just more bothersome than others. Our Shitzhu is adorable but she is yappy. All of our dogs have loved attention and we are happy to give it to them.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We are an active family. We like to run and walk and our dog walks with us. My husband ran with our Golden, but the Bassets and the Shitzhu have not been running dogs.

We live on a river but as you know Shitzhu's cannot swim. Our dog is always in a life vest whenever she is outside on the river side of the house and always when on the boat. Our Bassethounds didn't swim either. We have always been very conscientious about our dogs whereabouts because they didn't swim.

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself. I lost my baby, Lilly, to a cancerous tumor on her heart a week before her tenth birthday. She was my life. I had raised her since a puppy and we had been through everything together – we are inseparable. My home is empty without the love Lilly provided. I know I can't replace her, but I want to have that connection again.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My last dog was a Pembroke. I used to groom dogs and they were my favorite. They're extremely intelligent, and funny, and they can hold their own but still love to be with people and love to snuggle. They're both independent and social…and my baby girl was so laid back… They all just have such great individual personalities!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Walks, dog parks, play dates with other dogs my friends' have, visits to my grandmother's retirement home – ideally she would go with me anywhere I was allowed to take her.

I have had good results with a shaker can filled with pennies to get the dog's attention and then giving positive reinforcement for the desired behavior. And clickers.

|
Who is this dog for? |
for us and our puppers | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have loved this breed for quite some time and have done some research on the breed, and a Corgi will fit my lifestyle. My experiences with the breed are limited to mostly facebook groups and seeing them while at dog parks. I may have limited face to face or caring experience for a Corgi but I have had many other dogs and believe every dog should have a good home. I also love the ambitiousness and activity level of the breed.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I would take my Corgi on daily walks, unless it is too dangerous to do so. Playing fetch and snuggles are also things that would be enjoyable. Cute videos would always be posted online because they bring joy to everyones lives.
