Who is this dog for?

Us – Nick & Sarah Groeschel

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for multiple reasons. We like the smaller size, short legs, short tail, bigs ears, and thicker coat. We are looking for a dog that isn't too big for our medium sized home and we want a dog that can handle the cold. The only experience with the breed is having some corgis at the doggie daycare that I (Sarah) work at. We have done some research on the breed and will continue to do more.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would like to be able to take our corgi on walks, go camping, go on fishing trips (ride on a boat or kayak), go to doggie daycare and dog parks for exercise and socialization, and possibly do some agility training.

Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We are aware that the dog will most likely make mistakes. We plan on handling any mistakes calmly and assertively. We would like to train our dog to be well balanced by using leadership techniques similar to Cesar Millan. We have watched many videos and read numerous articles about having rules, boundaries, and limitations and projecting calm and assertive energy. We want our dog to be a fun, happy dog that is well trained. We also have a friend that is a trainer who will assist us in any issues that we may have.

Discipline:
We plan on doing crate training and possibly e-collar training.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our Pembroke would probably spend about half of the time at home (most of the time with someone) and the other half of the time at work with me (Sarah) since I work at a doggie daycare.

Both of us

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have researched several breeds, and was very interested in the Pembroke welsh corgi breed. First, they are absolutely adorable. Like most dogs, I’ve read about how I intelligent and loyal they are. I like how they can be sturdy little guard dogs as well. Dane is very loving and affectionate with animals, especially dogs. He has always had rescue dogs and doesn’t believe in buying from a breeder, so he told me if I wanted a corgi it would have to be a rescue.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are both active people who enjoy jogging/running and walking in the neighborhood. We also have several parks in the area, so the dog will get lots of exercise

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Firm but calmly disciplining the corgi by telling him/her no immediately. Then changing the behavior depending on the situation. (Such as if the problem is nipping, giving them an appropriate chew toy)

Discipline:
I’ve read that corgi’s are herding dogs and may try to herd their owners. I’ve read that it is important to use calm, firm, consistent leadership.

Both applicants

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are both very active people, so we want a breed that loves to be active as well! We also live in a city in an apartment, so we don't want a large dog. The Corgi seems like the perfect size and energy level fit for our lifestyle! We have done a lot of research on this breed through reading articles and watching videos. Through that research we really feel like the Pembroke Welsh Corgi would be the perfect companion for us!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily exercise, fetch at various dog parks in our community, walks or runs downtown or to farmers market, swimming at the lake, watching tv or movies together, playing with other dogs

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
First, realize that all dogs make mistakes and that they can learn and grow from them. They shouldn't be punished for not knowing everything. Then, do our best to teach the dog how to not make that mistake anymore by using positive reinforcements.

Discipline:
We don't believe in many forms of discipline with dogs. We believe positive reinforcement is the best method of training and teaching your dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In a fenced in area of apartment while we are at work, and while we are home would be able to go throughout the apartment. We will also have time every day to be outside.

My family of 4 girls ages 4, 8, 11 and 13 would love to adopt an older corgi. We have a fenced yard. We are looking for a relaxed low energy dog that likes children, and would be OK at home alone most work days.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love that the breed is outgoing and playful, yet not super crazy like some breeds I’ve owned. We love the look of the short legs and ears.

This would be a dog for me. I live alone and need a companion to go out and do activities with and hang out and take care of.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I think they are the cutest dogs. I love there short little bodies, and they seem to be very energetic which i want in a dog. My only experiences have been running into people with them and interacting through that. Also my next door neighbor has one so i have played with him a couple times. (Perfect play date opportunity)

There is a dog park right by where i live, so going and playing there. Also going on walks with me as i walk the trail almost every day.

Who is this dog for?

Myself – Kai Swanson

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love the breed. I used to have a Corgi, he recently passed away. I loved everything about him. He was my best buddy. He would always follow me around. He would try to be as big as possible and protect me.

I love how intelligent they are – sometimes in a bad way when you talk to them and they selectively don't respond haha.

I have owned one and have done research and I know that this is the dog I want.

Our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the look of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and know that they are typically confident dogs. We are looking for an addition to our family that will be a confident dog. Our current dog has come a long way with her confidence since we rescued her and we would like a breed that is confident so that we can continue working with her on that skill, while giving her a playmate and companion!

Who is this dog for?

The Pembroke we want to rescue will be for my family and I to have another member who we can love and spend time with since we’re always home. We miss having a furry companion.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because I know they are a very fun and playful breed and having a 4 year old at home who’s an only child, I want him to have someone he can play with and have both of them wear off that energy. I want my son to experience having a dog in his life who is going to be his best friend and after reading about them not getting very big and their personality type, they’d be perfect for our family and my son.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a nice big fenced in yard so we’re constantly outside with my son playing and during the summer we have plenty of BBQs. We have a lake house, so he’d always come with us to go walk on the trails, go to the beach, just relax on our porch which is also fenced in. The Pembroke can walk with me to take my son to school and then we can just hang out at home if the weather isn’t the best.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Just as you would with a child, calmly remove them from the situation and have them go in a quiet place for a few minutes to relax some of that energy.

Discipline:
The sit command. Distract them and have them look at you and have them sit for a few minutes. Kind of like time out.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home, preferably outside of a crate on their dog bed or cuddling with us. Or outside with us on the nicer days.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, I work nights and my mother works days because someone needs to always be home with my son because Daycare is too expensive when I have family who is always home.

Where would dog eat?
In our kitchen I’ll have their food and water bowls.

Where would dog sleep:
On their dog bed next to my bed, or in bed with me.

Play & exercise:
Our corgi would have plenty of exercise. Between me walking my son to school and we can walk in the morning, and then when it’s time to walk to pick up my son, and then at night when I get home from work we’ll go for another walk. And then in between we have the big yard with people always walking around and plenty of kids so I know our corgi would have a blast seeing everyone and running around the yard.

Tia!!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I specifically want to adopt a corgi because I’ve always loved them asthetically; however, I am not ready for a big dog, but I want to be prepared for the level of activity that bigger dogs need. I think that corgis are perfect for me to adjust to having an active pet. I currently live with another dog, have actively taken care of her, and I feel like I am ready to own a Pembroke.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I go on walks down the lake almost every day. My Pembroke would be accompanying me. I also like to skate.
