Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the context. If it was a past mistake I came home to, the dog won't understand what's happening. If it's a current mistake, a firm no, distraction, and then later positive reinforcement of the wanted behavior.

Discipline:
Distract, time out

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With the family, indoors unless we are outside

Who is this dog for?

Me. I've owned two in the past and I would looove to adopt a new family member.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My previous corgis were Katie and Howie. Katie was the more serious one — stubborn and strong willed, but loving if I didn't make her walk very far or work very hard (total couch potato). She was very intelligent and didn't require a lot of training. She learned quickly and was one of those model students. Bullheaded but wonderful.

Howie was the life of the party. He required much more activity and didn't have another mood other than super happy. He did have a pancreas disorder where he needed specific enzymes sprinkled on his food for each meal. Costly per month but completely worth it. He also liked to steal veggies from my salad, which I pretended not to notice.

When each of the dogs died, I mourned heavily and it took many years to recover. They are family and cherished.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
walks twice a day, dog park in town, fenced in field at the high school to run and play off leash, lots of toys, and more affection than they could ever dream of

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Mostly vocal corrections. Sometimes a clicker works, with a corgi that "hears" it, lots of positive reinforcements, treats, and practice,

Discipline:
Oh same as above. It's like training children (smirk). Lots of repetition, rewards, vocal and possibly clicker cues.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Wherever I am. Howie was attached at the shin. I do work 8 hours a day. But both dogs seemed to deal with that ok, since we exercised them and loved them to death.

Kitchen with us.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom. He/She will have its own bed, and knowing the others I will also have stairs up to the bed since it's higher than average and I don't want him/her jumping down, to protect his/her back.

Play & exercise:
We played with and exercised our dogs quite a bit. It enables everyone to sleep better and keeps them stimulated.

Who is this dog for?

For me – I have been wanting to adopt a Corgi for the longest time, and I am finally ready to do it.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I do love the Corgi breed. I love their loyalty and playfulness. I used to dog-sit for a friend who had a Corgi and he was so sweet. One minute he'd want to play outside and the next minute, he'd be content to stay snuggled at my feet. I have done research on the breed and understand that the herding instincts can prove difficult, I'm prepared to work with a dog if that becomes an issue with guests. I also love that the Corgi is smart and alert. The breed is a very good fit for my personality.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live in the Rogers Park neighborhood, so there are tons of great places to take walks and there are parks nearby where I would take the Pembroke to play fetch or meet other dogs. Plus, I live a mere two blocks from the beach and Lake Michigan. I think it would be a lot of fun for my Pembroke to play in the sand and the water. With our proximity to the beach, we could go there often. There is also an indoor dog pool in Chicago that looks like a ton of fun. I'd definitely take my Pembroke there.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would verbally make it clear that the behavior is not wanted (in most cases, a firm "no"), but once I notice that the dog understands that was a mistake, I would re-direct his/her attention to something else and move on. Especially when adapting to a new environment, mistakes will happen and living in a chastisement period for too long doesn't help the dog or the human. I would also encourage good behavior and habits with treat or toy rewards.

Discipline:
A firm tone of voice, and redirection of attention–I find that going down to the dog's level and instilling an "eyes on me" re-focus can help to quit bad habits/behavior and avoid panic/anxiety for the dog. I do not believe in physically hitting a dog as a method of discipline.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My Pembroke would spend most of his/her time at my apartment. It's a spacious one bedroom with a lot of windows. I am the only one living in the apartment so other people/pets are not a concern.

People at home during the day?
No, I am the only person living in the apartment, so while I am at work M-F, he/she would be by themself. However, I would plan to do long walks both in the morning and in the evening when I am home so that the Corgi would get plenty of exercise and attention. I am almost always home all day on the weekends.

Where would dog eat?
I would buy dog bowls and set them in my kitchen, for my Corgi to eat.

Where would dog sleep:
I would buy a dog bed for the Corgi and set it in my bedroom.

Play & exercise:
I plan to take my Corgi on a 20-30 minute walk each morning, and a longer 45-60 minute walk in the evenings. I also have lots of time when I get home to play small games of fetch inside or to play with other toys. On the weekends, we'd have more time to take walks, visit dog parks, and visit the beach.

Who is this dog for?

Me, my husband, and my daughter

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I adopted my first corgi via Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Rescue. Tucker, said corgi, was a year old coming from a puppy mill rescue. He was my best friend for 9 years during which time we were inseparable. He was always with me and saw me get married, adopt another dog, a cat, and passed away the year I became pregnant, which was devastating as he adored children. The breed qualities, however, will never leave my heart: intelligent, joyful, loyal, easy to train, and willing to please and enjoy life deeply. My daughter is now 16 months old and we ae considering adopting a dog again to make our family complete. I do not want to purchase a puppy because of all the dogs in need of homes and would like to consider LPWCCR again before any other options. My experience adopting with your program changed my life and is one of the defining parts of it, the time I had with Tucker. I know I will never replace him and I do not intend to; however with my current pace of life I do not think any breed would suit our family better than a corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We like to take long walks, play outside, train extensively with lots of tricks and variety, go on adventures, and generally hang out together as a family.

Who is this dog for?

For us, to join our family of four.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
They are adorable. My co-worker has one and I fell in love with him. They're silly, intelligent, fun, and fluffy. A Pembroke's size would fit in great with our two rescued dogs – one is big, the other is small. We have heard only positive things about the breed and we both have always had our eyes on them. After meeting one in-person, we know it's the right fit.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a large fenced in yard and we spend a lot of time out there with the dogs during the warmer months. We play catch, swim, chase them around, and Paul likes to wrestle with them in the grass. A Pembroke would fit right in with the fun, or be able to sit off to the side on the back porch area if he/she needs a break. Paul also takes them on walks around the neighborhood every day or other day if the weather is yucky. Inside we have brain/treat games, lots of stuffies, tug-of-war toys, and even homemade snuffle mats. I also like to try and train them to do different things to spice up dull days.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
By positive reinforcement and redirection to what we would rather have the Pembroke do.

Discipline:
I clap my hands or if one hand is busy, I will slap a table or wall to avert their attention away from what they are doing that is "bad."

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Wednesday-Friday 10am until 6pm – in the house.
Monday-Tuesday 10am until 1pm – in the house.
Saturday and Sunday – inside or out in the yard as desired to play or to go potty. "Yard time" is always supervised.
As often as possible – On walks with Paul.

Description of yard:

We have an in-ground 36'x18' swimming pool. During the off-season we fence it off so the dogs can't walk out on the frozen cover. During the summer when it's open we supervise the dogs all other times. We have a large flat lawn and patio, Maggie loves to dig. We built her a sandbox but she still prefers to dig in the soil. There are chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits that give the dogs fun scent games to play. It's completely safe, secure, and a fun space for them to play.

US…Me mostly.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
It took a while to get Molly to accept us as she came from a rather rough previous environment. She quickly came to like our country location and stayed close to us when we were outside. She was very quiet and when family or friends came to visit she would sometimes rest behind the toilet.

Who is this dog for?

Myself and my fiance

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My fiance has never had pets before, but he had always wanted a corgi. His best friend owns one, and we have fallen in love with the breed. They have a sweet demeanor, they're energetic and adorable, we love the size of them. I have done extensive research on corgi's and I'm very familiar with the breed, as is my fiance up to this point.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We love to go for long walks nearly every day, and we take our current pup to the dog park 3 – 4 times a week. Our corgi would ideally love taking long walks with us, would love to play fetch, but would also enjoy some snuggle time on the couch.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
The type of mistake would determine the type of reprimand. Having an accident in the house that we actually see happen would be met with a firm "No" and would be taken outside to finish or continue business out there. Once inside, corgi would be rewarded to promote positive reinforcement. Other mistakes such as nipping or biting or aggressive play would result in play being suspended for the time being, or a possible time out if needed.

Discipline:
Playtime being suspended
Firm reprimand by vocal "No!"
Potential time-outs if the mistake is severe (aka harming the other dog, aggressive play, etc)

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Indoors with us. Our pups are welcome to sleep where they're most comfortable. Our current puggle sleeps in bed with us.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever he or she is most comfortable!

Play & exercise:

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love that they are one of the smartest breeds. I've always been a fan of small to medium sized dogs (not the greatest fan of big dogs). I've always wanted a corgi and now that I am at the right age and have a stable job, I dont see a more opportune time to finally adopt one. I know the work required that of a corgi and I am ready for the responsibility.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take my corgi on walks as required. I wish to teach it some neat tricks! I would love a corgi to cuddle with, cheer me up on a sad day, and regularly just spend my time with!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With positive or negative reinforcement. NEVER to hit or punish. If they make a mistake (ie. pee where they are not supposed to), I would have to first initiate correct words ("No" or "uh-uh") that the corgi will associate as their "mistake" cue.

Discipline:
Word usage, hand gestures, body gestures. Never anything to physically hurt them.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I have a pet friendly home with no carpets. They would be able to roam around most places of the house with correct supervision. Although, once comfortable and in routine, I would be okay to let the corgi roam as we begin more to trust each other 🙂
