Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We are a very active family that wants a playful and energetic companion. We love being outdoors and our puppy would never be home alone for more than 3 hours at a time. We have always loved corgis and we have our heart set on adding a corgi to our family but we feel very strongly about adopting rather than going through a breeder to give a dog in need a loving and active home.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We live one block from Lincoln park throughout the year and in the summer we live at a summer camp on 300 acres. This dog will have more land and love than they will know what to do with. Our plan is that our dog will go with us everywhere.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		We both have a background of working with kids and are extremely patient no matter who we are interacting with. Positive reinforcement is the most important skill to master when caring for a dog and we are very well trained in all aspects of behavior management. If a dog makes a mistake it is important to redirect rather than punish or shame. We will train our puppy with kindness and understanding while setting firm boundaries to encourage positive behavior.

Discipline:
 We would discipline our dog by replacing bad habits with good ones while redirecting negative behaviors. We firmly believe that dogs should never be punished and even if they do something wrong we do not train with negative reinforcement or isolation.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 Our Pembroke would spend most of their time in our home or outside doing activities with the two of us. One of us is home a majority of the time and our puppy would never be alone for more than an hour or two at a time on any given day.

 For the first few months we would want to crate train our corgi. Once comfortable in a crate we would most likely have our puppy sleep in our bedroom either at the foot of our bed or in a dog bed.

 We are fortunate to have the time in our day to spend as much time as possible with our dog. We are very active, live one block from Lincoln park in Chicago, and we would take our corgi on at least two long walks a day. We also have outdoor space at our condo that would be perfect for lounging in the sun.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 A corgi is a smaller dog that is so smart and training will be essential for a Corgi to be part of our home. We understand that the Corgi is a herding breed. We don't have experience with a Corgi. We have owned a collie and two German Shepherd Dogs and understand the need of a herding dog to be active in daily exercise. We have researched the breed and understand that it has become "fashionable" breed to own because of the popularity in Britain. That's is not our intent to bring this breed into our home.

 Daily walks (morning and evening, weather permitting). Play time both in the house and in the yard. We will take him/her to obedience classes where he/she would be socialized and be trained in a group setting with distractions. We are also looking into agility training.

If the dog eliminates in the house, take it out and let them know the proper place to eliminate. Then clean up the mess so the dog doesn't go in the same place again.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We recently lost our corgi, Pilot, after 11 years. Corgis for us are the perfect size/activity combination, as we travel with our dog a lot (car rides), and participate in a lot of outdoor activities (hiking, camping, etc.). Pilot was a barker and a little standoffish with other dogs, so we have experience managing around difficulties and working with training and counter-conditioning.

I own and read books by Patricia McConnell, Karen London, Pat Miller, Karen Pryor, all of whom form the basis for my relationship to dogs and training. I have taken classes with Dog's Best Friend in Madison with previous dogs, and have volunteered with them as an assistant trainer in the past.

 My wife and I currently have two Corgis.
One is Ellie, who is a sable color and is almost 14 years old and in poor health.
The other is Henry, who is tri-color and is coming up on 10 months old.
We think that once Ellie is gone that Henry will be very upset and will do better if he has companionship with another Corgi brother or sister.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We know Corgis can be energetic and playful, we’re ready to take on the challenge of a Corgi since we’ve both had dogs in the past. Personally I’ve had a Border Collie, and Jessica had a Labrador and some cats at her Mom’s. We are looking for an active small dog to join us, we have a friend with three corgis and always enjoy visiting them.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 As members of the herding group, I know that a corgi will be active and require regular exercise. This is something I'm looking forward to! I love being active and a puppy companion is something I have been contemplating for a long time. I have been waiting for the right time to adopt and feel that Spring/Summer 2022 is the ideal time. My sister has worked in veterinary medicine and is currently a veterinary student and has wonderful things to say about the breed. Her own puppy routinely plays with her classmate's corgi- Mango. I feel that the personality, affection, and silliness that a corgi can provide is something that would be irreplaceable. Growing up my family had, and still has, small dogs that we loved and cherished as members of our own family, and I would like to own a pup of my own.

 Personality, looks, size (we are used to having a smaller breed of dog). Our family member has a Corgi, so we have been around the breed many times. We have done research, and feel that it would be a good fit for our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I did a lot of research on choosing the right breed before deciding to get my first dog (as a young adult). Corgis were my top pick, and I bought a beautiful red and white Pembroke puppy, Andy, who was my constant companion for over 16 years.

 I hope they want to play fetch. Walks in the park and dog park visits are fun. I am a former dog trainer so some amount of obedience training and possibly something like agility courses or flyball also if the dog is interested.
