| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Brandon and me, the two applicants on this form
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Both Brandon and I love the breed. I prefer smaller dogs. Everything about the breed, from the way they look, to the behavioral tendencies we really enjoy. The bark, the way they move, the way they sit on a lap.
We have already rescued another Corgi senior last year, but he passed away due to cancer (hermangiosarcoma). We went through treatment options that both we and Drake were comfortable with, but obviously it's a fatal disease so it only postponed his condition. We did our absolute best to make sure his last months were as enjoyable as possible. |
||||||
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
With our previous corgi (Drake), we would occasionally go hiking at a state park about once a month. Our family members also own dogs, so we would fairly often visit them to play. We tried to take Drake swimming once, but he didn't really like it. He had no problems around water, but just didn't want to do that.
We have many toys at home, tug ropes, toys that the dog can play with to get treats, toys to chew on, etc. Other times we may just watch tv and invite the dog on the couch to sit next to us. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
With Drake, we took a couple in-house lessons where an instructor came in and told us what we can do to redirect or train to deal with different behaviors. It depends on the behavior, but we have multiple tools and ideas for dealing with undesirable behaviors.
Discipline: |
We stick to positive reinforcement, and ignoring undesirable behaviors.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
At home, indoors. Currently we live in an apartment; however, we may move into a house sometime soon.

House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Max works from home, so he will be there all day.
Where would dog eat? |
Indoors, we have a raised food and water bowl that is the perfect size for Pembroke Welsh Corgis.
Where would dog sleep: |
Dog bed, couch, (human) bed, or floor. Wherever the dog is most comfortable.
Play & exercise: |
It depends on the corgi's desired activity level. Drake (while always excited to go outside), was not a very active dog. A short walk (around a couple blocks) was enough to wear him down. We have toys to play with inside as well, and as mentioned before we took him on a hiking trail about once a month.
