Who is this dog for?

Our family, which consists of two adults and 3 boys, two of which that are 11 and one is 6 years of age.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have had multiple interactions with a family member's Corgi. She is a hysterical, happy little dog that my children absolutely love. When we discussed getting a dog for our children, the corgi is exactly what we gravitated to. The size of the corgi also works well for our family, as it fits in the medium sized group of dogs. Most Corgis that I have come into contact with in the past love attention, which the dog would not be lacking around our home! We want a dog that would want to be around its humans and be an active member of our family. We feel that a corgi would fit well into our lifestyle. We have done lots of research, and we feel that a corgi would be a great fit into our home.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are an active family, and want our dog to part of our life. Kyle is a high school baseball coach, and all 3 of our kids are in multiple sports. We would like to take our dog to games as much as possible. I would love to have a walking partner, as I take multiple walks around our small town. With three boys, the dog would have constant playmates!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Telling the dog no when needed, and using positive and negative reinforcement when needed:
Postitive- treats, toys, verbal affirmation
Negative- taking treats and toys away, using the word no.

Discipline:
Positive and negative reinforcements (please see above for examples)

We do not believe in hitting any animal, and that would NOT be a method of discipline for a pet in our home.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Most of the time, the dog would be able to be free to roam about the home with the family. The dog wouldn't be home alone for more than 5-6 hours per day due to school/work, but if needed the dog could be kenneled during the time we are away. Otherwise, the dog would be free to relax where it wishes in the home.

People at home during the day?
There would be only a period of 5-6 hours a day where the dog would have to be alone during the day due to work/school. That time frame is very flexible however, as the adults in the home have flex schedules and make our own work schedules.

Where would dog eat?
Most likely the dog would eat in our kitchen, as there are hardwood floors that are easily mopped and cleaned if messes are made, but if necessary we can make a place for the animal to eat if it had certain needs.

Where would dog sleep:
My children have already talked about the dog sleeping with them! If that doesn't work for the dog, we are happy to make a kennel area or an area that would be the dogs sleeping area (ie: dog bed, etc)

Play & exercise:
With 3 active children, the dog would have multiple people to play with, go on walks with, and run around with. I like to take long walks myself, and having a walking partner was one big reason we started our search for a family pet. Also, Kyle and our children are very involved in baseball. We hope to take the dog with us to as many baseball games as possible.

How will you exercise your dog?
