Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke corgi is for the both of us; we live together at the address above.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Nancy has wanted a corgi for a very long time and thinks Pembrokes are the cutest dogs ever. She's been researching Pembrokes for years and we've both been talking seriously about getting a Pembroke for almost as long but we were waiting for the right time (moving in together and Nancy being able to work from home). We love the stubby legs and the tails, and how they not only look happy all the time but are generally energetic, friendly dogs . From the Pembrokes that we've met on the street during our walks and at various gatherings with other dog owners, we've only grown more sure that we wanted a Pembroke.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Maung is looking forward to taking a dog along on our daily walks and we are both looking forward to bringing our Pembroke along to some of the various dog owners meetups that we've been attending lately. We also have several friends that are dog owners or are becoming dog owners and we plan to let our dogs play together often. We've also been looking at dog parks in our local area and are also entertaining the thought of having bigger adventures (roadtrips) in the future with our dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We're hoping to learn more concrete techniques about this during training but we want to use positive reinforcement for good behavior as much as possible and try to avoid the bad behavior. If the Pembroke does do something bad, we will try to make the connection between the bad behavior very clear so that the dog understands what it *did* was bad, not that it is bad and not a good boy.

Discipline:
We will try our best to be in firm but fair control at all times. We will try to use rewards when possible, then use verbal commands like "sit" or "down" to try and stop the undesired behavior if it's still happening right then, or try to distract with toys. We'll react as little as possible to bad behavior to avoid reinforcing it. If completely necessary, we'll have a timeout for a little bit.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
During work hours, our Pembroke will most likely be at home with Nancy, who works from home most of the time, with a walk break around lunchtime. Sometimes, our Pembroke might come into work with Maung, whose workplace allows pets to come in occasionally and whose campus is very open and fun for dogs. Beyond work hours, we really want to let the dog set their style. We often have daily walks in the evening after dinner and like to visit parks. At the same time, we are also couch potatoes once in a while, or will have dinner parties with friends that also have dogs.

People at home during the day?
Yes, Nancy is almost always home during the workday.

Where would dog eat?
We have an open floorplan where our kitchen, dining area, and living room are all connected. We haven't 100% decided where the bowl will go but it will go in one of these areas. If the corgi eats with us (i.e. in the dining area), we will be strict with a distinction between "human food" and "corgi food" to make sure the corgi is healthy and getting a balanced, wholesome diet.

Where would dog sleep:
Most likely in a dog bed in our bedroom with us.

Play & exercise:
We plan to take our corgi on a couple walks a day. We will also take the corgi to dog parks, to local gatherings of dog owners, and to see our friends that also have dogs so that they can play together.
