Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We love that they're generally affectionate and bond well with their owners, are highly intelligent, are generally energetic and of course their incredibly cute looks. We know multiple people with corgis and have spent time around them. I have taken care of many breeds including corgis in the past at my former job as kennel staff for boarding and animal control. We have done research on the breed and understand their physical and mental activity needs as well as the importance of consistent training. I also understand they can have a tendency toward obesity without proper diet and exercise. As an independent pet nutrition consultant for pawTree (a truly all-natural pet nutrition company) on the side, I know the proper nutrition needs for developing customized nutrition plans based on each pet's individual needs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If unwanted behavior such as chewing or chasing, we would redirect the behavior and train for an alternate response. I've learned some training techniques for impulse control. If something minor that we've trained with, we'd start with a gentle "no". If something like a potty accident, we would show them the proper way to signal the need to go outside (we will have potty bells on the door) then make sure to spend more time on that training. If they simply accidentally knocked something over and broke it, then that's a lesson for us on where we place things. Never yelling or physical punishment.
Discipline: |
Must be consistent, training would include clicker training, positive reinforcement, redirecting bad behavior, rewarding good behavior.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Primarily inside, except for potty breaks, walks, outside playtime. Walks and playtime would be daily.
