Who is this dog for?

Both of us.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
This may be one of the odder answers you receive to this question, but a few weeks ago I was speaking with a good friend of mine who is amongst other things an animal communicator, healer, and intuitive. She asked me if I had recently gotten a dog, when I told her I had not she thought that was odd because she definitely sensed the energy/presence of a dog around me. I told her that my husband and I had been thinking about adopting a greyhound but she said that didn't seem quite right. The dog she saw was an adult dog, such that might be in a rescue situation with short legs that looked to her like a corgi. I told her I would keep an eye out for such a dog. And indeed since then I have been seeing lots of corgis, in the most unusual of places. My husband and I aren't in an rush to adopt, but I figured it couldn't hurt to put some feelers out there.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Likely going on walks every day. I would be interested in possibly trying some agility training if the dog is interested in that. My husband and I are also historical reenactors so there would be the possibility of bring our future dog with us to historical events.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Yes

Yes

Willing to house train?

Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It's hard to say without a specific example, but I don't believe in punishing an animal after the fact, they don't understand what they're being punished for.

Discipline:
Again I'm not really sure what you're looking for here, I'm not going to hit the dog. I may give them a stern No, if they're doing something they're not supposed to. While I haven't had dogs, I have had horses, and the basis of my training with my horses is to make the right thing easy and the wrong thing hard. Either ignoring them or putting pressure on when they are doing the wrong thing and lots of praise when they figure out the right thing.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Likely in our house.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
At the moment I am currently at home for most of the day.

Where would dog eat?
Probably in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
We do have an animal bed downstairs which we got for our cat, though she doesn't use it. If the corgi would like to sleep there it is more than welcome to, We could also move the bed upstairs to our room if it's more comfortable sleeping upstairs with us.

Play & exercise:
Likely going for walks in the morning and evening. Playing in our back yard, going to a dog park. etc.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
The fence does need a bit of repair, as it is almost 100 years old and leans in a couple of places. Fixing it up is on our to-do list. Until it is repaired any dog we get would not be allowed outside unsupervised.

Description of yard:

Our back yard has back porch along with a cement walk leading up to the house. It is a bit overgrown at the moment however we are looking to work on the landscaping of it this coming spring.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Both of us

Willing to train children?
We do not plan on having any children ever.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, and in regards to the above question, I'm not sure how Willow will do with dogs. She was abandoned at a barn I was working at, at the time, there were dogs in the office where she was but she was very timid and mostly hid from them. She is much more confident now, so it is possible she will be more territorial.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
