Who is this dog for?

My partner, Joel, and I would like to adopt a family pet.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We like the intelligent and playful personalities corgis often have. We would like a dog we can be active with, but that is smaller because we currently live in an apartment that does not allow larger dogs. We don't plan to show or compete with our dog, so their appearance is not important to us. We would like to find a buddy for life, so making sure our personalities are a good match is our top priority. We are excited to learn how to train our dog to do new things, so that seems like a good fit with Corgis.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Joel runs daily, and I run several times a week. We have relocated to an area with few friends and no family for Joel's medical training, so we are eager for the companionship of a pet. I look forward to daily walks, and we both would love the play and learning of training a dog for new skills. We have a lot of love to give and would enjoy socializing our pet with other dogs.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would seek to learn from other owners and trainers of dogs to understand the reason for the mistake. We would follow advice from people with experience to correct the mistake or avoid it altogether in the future.

Discipline:
We know that boundaries are important and that it is just as important to teach what you do want as it is to teach what you don't want. We plan to research responsible, proactive dog ownership if we are luck enough to find a dog to adopt.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our dog would spend most of their time in our home, though we would go out to our yard throughout the day for bathroom breaks and take at least one walk every day.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I am currently home during the day, but if that were to change, my partner is a student and we live close to school, so he would come home at least once during the day to let our dog out and have some social time.

Where would dog eat?
Our corgi would eat indoors.

Where would dog sleep:
We would gate off the first floor at first because it has a tile floor. Once we've house trained our dog, we would let them sleep with us or wherever they are most comfortable in the house.

Play & exercise:
We are looking for a companion for play and exercise, so we will provide opportunities daily. We plan on at least one walk every day, with supervised time in the yard or at a dog park. I run several times a week and would love a running buddy. I run for health and not competitively, so our dog would not need to run very fast to keep up!

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
It is concrete and stone and is about 3 feet high. It does not completely enclose our yard, so we would never let our dog out without a leash. We plan to take at least one walk every day, and hope to be able to run together as well.

Living arrangements:
Rent/lease home

Landlord info:

May we contact your landlord?
Yes, you may contact my landlord.

Lease allow dogs:
Yes, my lease permits dogs.

Landlord permission:
Yes, my landlord is fine with me owning a Pembroke

Restrictive covenants?
Not applicable

Breed/size restrictions?
Yes

Description of yard:

We do not live in a house, but we do have a yard. It has a 3 foot fence, but it does not enclose the yard completely, so we would never leave our dog unsupervised in the yard. We would let them off leash outside at the dog park only.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Stephanie

Willing to train children?
Yes.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
