Who is this dog for?

All of us. We have one 13 year old that lives with us all the time, and 3 other children we see every other weekend.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always been a fan of corgis. I love the personality, the cleverness. The cute way the cock their head when they listen to you. I had one for about 10 years, he came to us between age 2-3. He ended up having hip issues and could no longer walk.
We currently have a "mostly corgi". He was also a rescue. He looks very corgi-like, but we do not believe he's a pure bred.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have an acre yard, and spend a lot of time outside. We also live in DuPage county and have plenty of forest preserves. We love to hike. We have taken Westley, our current corgi, on a few hiking trips with us. He has been to Shawnee National Forest, and Devil's Lake. He hiked Devil's Backbone like it was nothing and wanted to go back for more! In fact, we need to watch him because he will overdo it and be tired and sore the next day.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I'm not sure your definition of mistake. If it has a potty accident in the house, I would say that is our fault and not the dog. Other things, like chewing our items, again: we should not leave our things lying around that could be damaged. We provide our dogs with plenty of activities and toys to be sure they aren't bored or tempted by our belongings

Discipline:
With a quick response, catching the dog in the moment, we simply use a stern voice. Corgis are always very willing to please their humans, so in my experience, this has been enough.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
I work just part time, so the dogs spend their time with me. Once acclimated to us, it would be things like yard work (on a long cable since we don't currently have a fence), off-leash dog park, leashed hikes and walks. We do not crate our dogs, as it has never been necessary. When Westley first moved in with us, if we had to leave him alone, we did block him in the kitchen so he had ample room to walk around and wasn't "caged"

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
4 or 5 days a week, there are people home during the day.

Where would dog eat?
Our pets have always eaten in the kitchen. Westley eats all of his food immediately, so we will have to judge the behavior of the new dog to be sure that Wes isn't eating both sets of food!

Where would dog sleep:
In one of our bedrooms, with whichever human they prefer.

Play & exercise:
We are an active family. I hike often, my fiance' is a runner. We often take our dog with us on these activities. We also have kids that love to throw things for the dog, even tho Westley isn't much at fetching. The kids also like to play tug with Wes, which he enjoys thoroughly.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Description of yard:

We live in a 4 bedroom house with a backyard that is nearly an acre. Our backyard much resembles a football field, so we have plenty of space to run. We have several trees, a garden and chickens, but no pool or any water structure.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Denise

Willing to train children?
Yes. We did have to teach them with Westley to respect his needs and wants as well as their own. We taught them they could not force hugs or cuddles with him, it had to be his decision. They also have been learning about taking care of him, picking up his poop, etc.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes, like stated above, the cat keeps to the basement all by herself. This is due to a cat allergy of Erick.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
