Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
My husband and I are retired and live in a townhome in the South Loop in Chicago. We had a wonderful male Pembroke corgi who died two years ago. We miss him and his sweet personality but would like to have a female this time. We are going to move to Oregon in about a year to be near our oldest daughter who is starting to have kids. We'd like a pet who is good with small children. Our new home will be on one level and has a large yard.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We had our Corgi, Toby, for 12 years. He was 4 months when we got him and we had a female puppy blood hound then, too, for about a year. They would howl in the morning together! It was hilarious and sweet. After our blood hound left, Toby was our only dog, although we had cats, a rabbit and guinea pigs for a while. Toby was smart, friendly and always looking for treats. He liked to play soccer with his soccer ball. He didn't get on beds and only on furniture if another dog did! He was not snappish unless he was in pain. He had health problems in the last few years and could not process protein. He had an undersized liver and that presented problems that eventually lead to his death. We were so sad.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Play with a soccer ball, go for long walks, pet him a lot…

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
This really depends on the mistake. Generally, mistakes should be acknowledged and then the dog shown the proper action, that is what she/he should have done. If it is a problem that is a continuing temptation (ex. barking at the Christmas tree), then removing the dog from the temptation unless someone is there to monitor is a good idea.
Discipline: |
Again, this depends. It might mean withholding a treat or putting the dog in his/her cage for a short period.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With us. But at night, we would keep her/him in his/her cage.
