Other preferences:
We need to make sure our other dog will get along with our new one. Our current dog was a rescue who we think may have been abused by former owners so she can be a little skittish. She seems to get along well with dogs that stop by our property to play, though. And she was fine with our older dog (who died a few years ago).

Who is this dog for?

Our family: mother, father, 15 year old boy, 13 year old boy, 6 or 7 year old mixed dog (rescue so we aren't sure of her age)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love that they are energetic and sweet. We have researched them extensively and understand that they can be high maintenance. We do like the way they look so cute. We have never had a smaller dog and like that these are smaller but still look like dogs.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We play outside with our dogs a lot. Our current dog doesn't like to do much, but our past dogs played Frisbee and did obstacle courses with us. Also we like to take our dogs for walks and in the car. And of course to pet them and cuddle. We would like to formally train our dog but it may be difficult to find a trainer in our small town.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
This is an odd question to us. We have had three dogs – they are bound to wreck something in our house or make a mess. We just roll with it and work to train them not to do it again. If it was our fault for leaving something out, we won't do that again. If their fault, sometimes we can block them from going in a certain place, or else work to train them.

Discipline:
It seems positive rewards work the best with both humans and dogs. And consistency. So that would be our method

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home. There is someone at home more than 50% of the day and always at night. And our other dog is always home too.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Most of the time. Pete works as a track coach so is gone most afternoons. But I often come home with the kids by 4pm. So most of the time there would be someone home.

Where would dog eat?
Our dogs always eat in the mudroom/laundry room.

Where would dog sleep:
In our bedroom on the floor (dog bed).

Play & exercise:
Lots. We have lots of outdoor space and we spend a lot of time outdoors ourselves. We have an invisible fence that blocks about 2 acres so we will probably train her to that if possible.

How will you exercise your dog?
Restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
Invisible Fence. But we haven't used it for a while because our current dog just stays around our house. But we could get it going again.
