My Dinky was a bit on the jealous side when Wilbur the pug came to live with me as the Dink was the only one for about 4 years. They ended up getting along fine except for some food jealousy issues, but I fed Dinky in the kitchen and Wilbur in my art studio. Dinky did try to push Wilbur around, but my puggy is oversize, about 28 pounds and not fat–just big and very laid back. I live in a park model trailer with a loft so they can run the stairs or stay downstairs. I can't afford a whole lot of rehoming fees and I am not planning on this until sometime after Christmas as I have to get over my loss. I am willing to housebreak if necessary, but I am gone 2 days a week in the morning. I will buy dog insurance as I had that for Dinky. Wilbur was already 11 when I got him and therefore too old to insure. Both were pound puppies.

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
As I said, they are active, nosy, pushy and interpret your feelings too. They readily fit it and they're just so cute as well. They walk and wiggle, they love toys, they cuddle, they're just great companions and their activity level makes you get out there.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks, visits to dog park, field trips. My Corgi went everywhere, took in the Indian Mounds, went to all the route 66 stops, went to the sand dunes, went trail hiking in the forest preserves. In order to accommodate my Wilbur pug, I would have to take a jog cart along so that when he tired I would be able to still get the Pembroke the exercise he needs. My corgi loved to chase the deer on the other side of the fence at the local dog park. They have a herd of goats and white deer that live at the farm as well as donkeys.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
The method I used with Dinky was "no" and then sit until he gave me his attention. With housebreaking, I picked up the papers and put them outside, took him for a walk and when he peed in the right place gave rewards like small treats in the pocket.

Discipline:
Mainly just rewarding commands done correctly after I have his or her attention. I teach down, sit, stay and come first but I also found with my corgi that a busy dog is a happy dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
He or she would be inside, but I go for walks and rides and the dog goes too.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I am usually home. I take a sculpture class at the local college 2 days a week, from 9 until 12 and am usually home by 1:30. I take a horse lesson on Wednesdays and am gone 9:30 to 1:30. If I go visit people my dog usually comes with unless it is a few minutes at a neighbors house. My dogs have lots of toys.

Where would dog eat?
In my kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Probably in my bed or his bed. My Corgi that just passed on slept on the bed next to the couch when he had trouble getting up and down the stairs.

Play & exercise:
I would walk him or her at least 3 times a day or take him to the doggie park here or in Godley where he or she could run with other dogs.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Description of yard:

I live in Shadow Lakes. It is unusual in that it is mostly park model trailers, some homes and some park models with room additions. As I said, I don't have a fenced yard, but I could probably put up a fence if I get to the point where I can't walk well or run.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Teresa Wendorff

Willing to train children?
I don't have any children and the ones I have contact with have dogs.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Certainly. As I said before, Wilbur is very laid back. He probably would like the company when he is alone. He is getting up there in years and is in great health for a dog his age, but I don't want to traumatize him or a new pooch so I would have to see how things would go and work with it.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
