Who is this dog for?

Myself – my companion Lilly (Pembrook Welsh Corgi) recently passed away and while I can't replace her, the apartment is lonely with just me living in it.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I used to be a groomer and my experience with the breed as a whole as well as my own corgi (Lilly) was nothing but positive – they're incredibly intelligent, people-oriented, independent, laid back dogs – they love to snuggle up and be pet and they're adaptable as far as I've seen.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Lilly used to go everywhere with me – camping, hiking, visiting senior housing facilities to brighten people's days, she used to come to family functions, go on car rides with me (she especially liked going through the Starbuck's drivethru because they gave her a puppy-chino, which was a cup of whipped cream), dog park… my dog is my companion. We experience as much of life as we can together.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Unless I catch him/her in the act, I cannot correct the act. Positive reinforcement always works better than negative. I know that clicker training and training with something like cheerios for incentive at first is useful. In the past I have praised highly when the correct behavior is done, and redirected to the correct behavior if the bad behavior is caught.

Discipline:
Oddly enough, my last dog Lilly was such a good dog after being trained that I rarely had to discipline. The one thing that drove her nuts and made her shape up is if I completely ignored her. She wanted to be part of the family/pack SO badly that if I pretended she just didn't exist, it drove her crazy.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My dog always had the run of the entire apartment. While he/she may need to be crate trained in the beginning if she/he is a puppy, after we get that down, I would like to be able to let them have all the space they want.

People at home during the day?
No, but I will have a friend/professional dog walker stopping in half way through the day to take him/her for a walk and play with him/her.

Where would dog eat?
Fromm dry food – Fromm wet food on special occasions. Treats would be high end natural ingredient dry treats, and carrots…. and every now and then a puppy-chino. 🙂

Where would dog sleep:
He/she has their own bed, but they are more than welcome to share my bed as well. I have stairs that they can climb up and down.

Play & exercise:
Trips to the dog park, play dates with friends with dogs, regular walks and fetch exercises… and if that doesn't seem to be doing it, we can always look into agility training in the area.
