Who is this dog for?

Myself, Steve Maslan

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am interested in a small active dog with a strong personality, but the athleticism to back it up. I have fostered several dozen small ~25lb dogs over the past decade, most of which have been terrier types. The intelligence, athleticism and work ethic of PWCs are what drive my interest in them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live in a small fishing town in central Wisconsin; there are trails and parks everywhere that I frequent with my family dog. I would cherish the opportunity to travel and venture with a corgi by my side.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If the dog makes a mistake, it is likely an event I allowed to happen and did not properly prepare for. Before anything else, I would consider the options that I myself am responsible for to prevent frequent occurrences. After this consideration, I would give stern vocal command showing my displeasure, but not too loud. If possible I will offer and encourage alternate behaviors to prevent harmful mistakes.

Discipline:
In regards to house training, I begin with appraisal/attention and treat reward interactions (ie when potty training.) However, I am aware that corgis are prone to weight gain, so i will lean towards appraisal and providing “a job” for my corgi to reward him/her.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The first week will be the only time spent with a crate to ensure a safe space and acclimation to a new environment. Afterwards, I will progressively increase his/her roaming area to my extended bedroom and then the house.
