| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
our family – the two of us plus our two daughters: Ellie, age 14 and Sara, age 11.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
my 11 year old daughter loves Corgis. she has researched them extensively and we have taken her to visit Corgi breeders to get to know the breed better. through her, we have all come to love the intelligence and spirit of these amazing dogs.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
All of us run for exercise and recreation. We would run with our Corgi, cuddle him or her on our couch, play fetch in our large fenced yard, engage his or her mind with games and toys and training. We have a backyard pool and if our Corgi likes to swim we would swim with him or her as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
we would firmly yet lovingly correct the mistake and take time to train our Corgi to avoid repeat mistakes. We would never yell or punish.
Discipline: |
a clicker, and/or firm yet not angry verbal commands. when safety of the dog or others is an issue, physically restraining them or placing ourselves in a commanding (but not angry or threatening) posture. for example, our terrier used to be hostile to other dogs. we learned to stay above and between her and other dogs when she showed hostility and to firmly tell her "no", and gently but firmly hold her down if necessary. we would never ever yell or strike our dogs.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
in our house and fenced back yard (weather permitting) we have a "doggie door" so our Corgi could come and go to the back yard as desired. we would never chain our dog up or keep him or her outside long term. We would provide a comfy bed and basket of toys in our living room, and once the dog is housetrained, give him or her basically free run of the house.

Description of yard: |
our back yard is approximately 1/4 acre – fenced in on all sides with a 6 ft high wooden fence. We have a set of doggie doors that go from our kitchen, through our garage, to the back yard. We do have a swimming pool that we cover in the winter. we would take the time to train our Corgi to get safely out of the pool if he/she likes swimming (our terrier was terrified of water and never got in the pool). We would also use an "alarm" to alert us when anything (including the Corgi) enters the pool. My husband works from home so the dog would rarely be alone. Our neighborhood has lots of dogs and dog lovers and we all watch out for one another.
Household members: |
|||||||
Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi? |
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
|
May we do a home visit? |
Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.
Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care? |
Sara primarily, but we will all pitch in.
Willing to train children? |
our children are 11 and 14 and have always had dogs in the home and know how to care for them and love them. Our Cavalier was 1 year old when our eldest daughter was born and would sit in my lap as I nursed her. Our Terrier came into our family (by walking up to our front door one day and choosing us) when the girls were 4 and 1 years old.
