We previously had a black tri corgi girl who passed away from hemangiosarcoma a couple of months ago. We would prefer another black tri female if possible but understand if that's not possible and are open to other possibilities. I don't want a puppy but would like a younger adult dog if possible.

Who is this dog for?

Myself (Jamie) and my husband (Jonathan).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I previously had a black tri female pem, Lily. She was a rescue, we had her from age 2 to age 9. She was an absolutely wonderful girl. She passed away about 2 months ago from hemangiosarcoma (canine cancer). I miss her a lot and I'd love to have another pem in my life. We had so many wonderful times with Lily and I'd like to start making new memories with a new corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking every day (we live very close to a large fenced-in dog park) and sometimes hiking on the weekends. Riding in the kayak (my previous pem Lily loved riding in the kayak and looking at ducks – she always wore her life vest). And attending dog-friendly events such as the Wisconsin corgi picnic.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Training using positive reinforcement. I know from experience that pems tend to be very treat-oriented!

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement for good behavior and telling them "No" when doing something they shouldn't.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My husband works first shift and I work second shift, so the dog would spend most of their time with someone at home and very little crate time. I leave for work at 1 PM and my husband arrives home at 4 so there would only be 3 hours per day where one of us isn't home.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, as stated above, I work at 1 PM and my husband arrives home at 4 PM, so the dog would only be crated for 3 hours during the time that our shifts overlap. Other than those 3 hours, one of us would be home with the dog.

Where would dog eat?
My previous corgi ate Canidae Life Stages kibble. That seemed to be a good quality food and I would feed another dog that brand of kibble.

Where would dog sleep:
Our previous corgi was crate trained and always slept in her crate. I would prefer to crate train my next dog as well, so they would sleep in a crate.

Play & exercise:
I live one block away from Quann dog park in Madison WI which is a very large fenced-in dog park. We took our previous corgi Lily there regularly, every day until she got her cancer diagnosis (her energy level dropped a lot after her diagnosis). I would plan to take a corgi to the dog park every day for exercise and socialization.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Description of yard:

My husband and I own a house with a small front and back yard in Madison WI. No swimming pool. We have fences on 2 sides of the yard. As previously stated, we live one block away from a large fenced-in dog park, so although our yard is not fenced, we do have access to a fenced dog park very close to our house. We also live right next to a bicycle/pedestrian path for walks on-leash.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
Jamie and Jonathan

Willing to train children?
We do not have children and are not interested in having children.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
My previous corgi did not go up on the furniture, and we also have a cat-only room with a baby gate that has a door that the cat can fit through but which an adult corgi would be too large to fit through. That room holds the cat's food and litterbox. The cat can go to that room if she is feeling stressed by the dog. My previous corgi also did not go up on the furniture, so the cat could climb to the back of the couch or other area that the dog wasn't allowed on. My cat did not love my previous corgi, but tolerated her.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
